Sally的生日
Sally’s birthday was approaching, and the excitement that usually filled her heart was now replaced with disappointment and stress. Turning eleven was a big deal, and she had always celebrated it with a grand party surrounded by her friends. However, this year was different. The burden of excessive homework and her parents’ struggling business weighed heavily on her, forcing Sally to make the difficult decision of not having a birthday party, even though it was an event she enjoyed dearly(very much)every year. One day, during break, her best friend, Jane, with a curious look in her eyes, approached. “Are you going to have a birthday party this year ” Jane asked, sensing Sally’s sadness. “No,” Sally sighed and replied sadly, “There’s just too much going on and my parents are going through financial difficulties.”
She smiled weakly, trying to conceal(掩饰 (情感))her immense(极大的;巨大的)disappointment and stress, but Jane saw through(看穿; 识破)her pretence (假装) easily. Jane nodded thoughtfully(若有所思地点了点头)and did not say anything. After the break, Sally saw her talking to one of their classmates, Sarah, secretively. Curious, Sally went over to them, but as soon as Jane saw her, she quickly walked away. Sally was startled(使受惊)by Jane’s strange actions and turned towards Sarah.“What did she say ” Sally asked. However, Sarah simply shrugged and walked away with Jane, leaving Sally standing there, feeling left out(被冷落)and anxious.
What is happening Sally wondered anxiously. Are they keeping something from me As Sally’s birthday drew nearer(临近), Jane was often found chatting softly with her other classmates. Whenever Sally went over to them, they would just walk away or tell her that they were talking about a secret which Sally was not allowed to know. Jane has never kept secrets from me before, Sally thought. Her heart fell. Even her friends were distancing themselves from her! She swung between confusion and sadness(swing between 情绪1 and 情绪2时而...时而...)with each passing moment, desperately trying to figure out what was happening. On the day of Sally’s birthday, she went to school and found her classroom in total darkness.
Hesitant, Sally inched carefully into the classroom. Suddenly, hands stretched from behind Sally covered her eyes and a familiar voice said joyfully, “Happy birthday!” It was Jane! So surprised and moved was Sally that she stood rooted to the spot. As Jane removed her hands, a cake came into Sally’s view. It was a beautifully-decorated cake, with eleven candles on it. The tiny yellow flames of the candles dancing in her red-rimmed eyes, Sally opened her mouth to say something, but words failed her. Just then, lights in the classroom were switched on, and Sally was greeted by broad smiles on her classmates’ faces.
Tears sprang from Sally’s eyes and her face broke into a radiant smile. Confusion and sadness that had haunted Sally during the days when her friends distanced themselves from her were altogether erased. The secret she was not allowed to know was that Jane, along with other classmates, was preparing a grand birthday party for her. Tears blurring her eyes again, Sally choked out with gratitude, “Thank you for giving me such an unforgettable birthday party!” Jane held Sally tightly in her arms, saying gently, “No matter what difficulties you encounter, I will forever stand by you.” A secretly-organized birthday party brought Sally the warmth and taught her the value of friendship.

I believe God is glad to help someone who wants to help himself.
Life is full of dilemmas and conflicts, but we should smile and never give up, just like Kelly.
sb. realized that......
It was + 强调部分+ that sb. realized......
It dawned on sb. that 某人恍然大悟;哦,原来.......
The wind murmured in the trees and the sunlight flooded in through the window, warming the whole room, as if the freezing ice was all melted.
In the heavy snow, passion and love burnt as they hugged and smiled.
Satisfied, Emma ate the cake, not only because of the surprise, but also for the pride bubbling from the bottom of her heart.
Heart beating (racing/pounding) wildly, Emma rushed to her mum and hugged her tightly.
With tears dropping from his eyes, he ran to his mum’s warm hug, smiled and said gently, “Mum, thank you.”
