Analysis of the Teaching Materials
What: Module 8 is mainly in the context of accidents, with an important tense of past continuous with the structure of while-clause. In Unit 1, the conversation between Ms. James and her students was about a traffic accident. As a witness, Ms. James shared what she saw about the traffic accident. It turned out that the accident was attributed to the bike rider as well as the driver. So at the end of the conversation, they gave advice to the bike rider about how to avoid accidents.
Why: Accidents happen all the time in our daily life. The conversation between Ms. James and students about a traffic accident draws students’ attention to the skills of describing an accident and more importantly, arouses students’ awareness of the road safety.
How: The conversation is about a traffic accident. This conversation is divided into two parts.Part One mainly talks about the details of the accident, including the time, place, reasons, and the result. In order to retell the accident, in the text, Ms. James uses the past continuous tense with the structure of while-clause. The past continuous tense helps students imagine the scene of the accident and the while-clause sentences emphasize that different things happen at the same time and that’s why the accident happens. Part Two focuses on the suggestions to the bike rider who is a student. This part can help students review how to give advice.
Teaching objectives
By the end of the lesson, students are able to:
1. master some new words and past continuous with adverbial clauses(when,while);
2. master some listening skills of listening for the details of a conversation;
3. read the conversation with proper feelings,intonation and body language;
4. improve their thinking qualities and cooperation;
5. be aware of the importance of safety.

Post-listening 1.Let’s role-play Ask students to act out the conversation among the policeman,the driver,the boy and Ms James. 2.Let’s discuss Ask students to use the sentence structures to describe the dangerous activities in the school. 3.Let’s share Ask students to share the accidents they have seen with the sentence structure. To help students know the importance of cooperation and using proper intonation and body language when speaking. To help students master the usage of the sentence structures and be aware of the importance of safety.
Homework Must do ①Read the dialogue five times. Pay attention to Ms James’s and Betty’s feelings and the sentences with when/while. Choose to do ②Find out what else will cause accidents in the school. Think of more safety tips we should pay attention to in our daily life.

四．Reflections
本课重点在于如何应用when/while将两个同时发生的句子进行合写，巩固延续性动词和非延续性动词。不过学生对于事故发生的原因与结果概述不够完整。
