The State of Colorado has four of the best parks out of the 58 national parks in the United States. The parks have some of the best scenery of all the national parks.
Black Canyon (峡谷) of the Gunnison National Park
This park offers the most breathtaking views from up in the mountains into the canyons below. While exploring the canyons, you will find that the walls drop nearly straight down into the narrow valleys of the snake-like rivers below. Visitors are offered more than 100 camping sites, and a lot of bird species and many animals are native to the area.
Rocky Mountain National Park
It is the only national park in the north central region in the State of Colorado. Elevations in this park are anywhere from 8,000 feet to 14,259 feet at the top of Longs Peak. While traveling throughout this park you will notice there are two very different climates because of the difference the upper peaks of the Rocky Mountains make. You can enjoy 359 miles of hiking trails, a lot of places for camping, horse-back riding and beautiful scenery.
Mesa Verde National Park
This is probably the most interesting national park, offering a fascinating trip back in time to 600 AD up to 1300 AD. This park was declared a protected national park in 1906 because of the cliff dwellings (住所) that were found throughout the area, which were once home to American Indians. Many of these dwellings can be walked through, while you imagine what each room may have been used for so many years ago.
Great Sand Dunes (沙丘) National Park
The Great Sand Dunes National Park lies in South-Central Colorado, about 127 miles from Pueblo. This park has the tallest sand dunes in all of North America and has trails for hiking. The natural sandy beaches around the small rivers and lakes are good for swimmers.

Susan Brownell Anthony was a lady ahead of her time. She fought for women’s rights long before it became a popular issue.
Susan was born on February 15, 1820, in Adams, Massachusetts. At that time, women had few rights. They could not own property. Money earned by a married woman belonged to her husband. Major decisions regarding children were made by the fathers. Women could not vote.
At the age of 15, Susan became a school teacher. She taught for 15 years. Then she began organizing women’s groups to promote causes that were important to women. She helped gain better educational rights for women. She helped give married women possession of their earnings.
After the Civil War, Susan became very involved in the Woman’s Suffrage Movement. After years of lecturing, writing, and appealing by Susan and other women, some parts of the United States changed their laws to give women the right to vote. The first state was Wyoming in 1869. And then other areas and states followed Wyoming’s decision. It was not until 1920 that the US Constitution was changed to give all women voting rights.
Susan Brownell Anthony died in 1906 at the age of 86. She was elected to the American Hall of Fame in 1950. She was the first American woman to have a likeness (肖像) of her face on a coin. It was the 1979 Susan Brownell Anthony dollar.

A robot may be defined as a machine that can be programmed to perform acts automatically. With the increase in high technology, robots are taking over boring or inconvenient work in many areas of life.
One area where robots are making an appearance is farming. There is a robotic revolution going on in the milking industry, and cows, as well as farmers are experiencing the benefits. The advantage for the cows is that they can choose when and how many times a day they want to be milked. On the other hand, farmers no longer have to get up at 4 am every day to go to the milking sheds and this makes a huge difference to their way of life.
In traditional farming, cows are milked twice a day, in the morning and the evening, mainly because: this is the most convenient way for farmers to get two milking sessions completed in one day. However, this is not necessarily the best way for each individual cow. Because the robots are programmed to milk the cows whenever they arrive, the cows can be milked once, twice or even four times a day. It is an entirely voluntary system for the cows. They decide.
Farmers report that midnight is a particularly busy time at the milking shed. The interesting thing is the cows like the system once they get used to it. Farmers report that milk production increases, the cows live longer and they seem far more relaxed.
The computerized robotic system is entirely automatic. As the cows enter the facility, they are weighed, milked and productivity and health checks are carried out. The facility cleans itself at regular intervals(间隔)and if there is a problem, the robot sends the farmer a message.
Equipping a farm with robots is not cheap. However farmers who have installed the robotic milking sheds, say they would never go back to the old system. The commonly reported sight of cows queuing patiently in front of their favourite robot must mean the cows like it too.
28. What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A. To talk about a kind of robot. B. To tell the importance of robots.
C. To introduce the applications of robots. D. To provide the definition of robotic system.
29. What benefit may robots bring to the cows according to the text
A. They can be freer to be milked. B. They can be milked twice a day.
C. They can choose the day to be milked. D. They can get up at 4 am to be milked.
30. Which of the following would the author probably agree
A. The robotic system is entirely automatic except for health checks.
B. The robotic system is so expensive that farmers will never install one.
C. The robotic system is voluntary for cows to be milked of their own free will.
D. Morning and evening are the two most convenient milking sessions for cows.
31. What would be the best title for the text
A. A robotic revolution in milking B. Cows favourite helper
C. Hands free for the farmers D. An expensive milking shed
D
The climate change has become an issue that no one can escape from. If the world wants to limit climate change, water shortage and pollution, we all need to choose “flexitarian” diets, say scientists.
This means eating mainly plant-based food, which is one of three key steps towards a sustainable future for all in 2050, they say. Food waste will need to be halved and farming practices will also have to improve, according to the study. Without action, the impacts of the food system could increase by up to 90%. Fast on the heels of the landmark report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) comes this new study on how food production and consumption impact major threats to the planet.
The authors say that the food system has a number of significant environmental impacts including being a major driver of climate change, providing freshwater and reducing pollution through over use of nitrogen (氮) and phosphorus (磷).
The study says that thanks to the population and income growth expected between 2010 and2050, these impacts could grow between 50%~90%. This could push our world beyond its geographic boundaries. So when it comes to climate change, the authors looked at what they called a “flexitarian diet”.
“We can eat a range of healthy diets but what they all have in common, according to the latest scientific evidence, is that they are all relatively plant-based,’’ said lead author Dr. Marco Springmann from the University of Oxford.
“You can go from a diet that has small amounts of animal products; some might call it a Mediterranean-based diet; we call it a flexitarian diet. We tried to stay with the most conservative one of these which in our view is the flexitarian one but even this has only one serving of red meat per week,” he added.
If the world moved to this type of diet, the study found that greenhouse gas emissions (排放) from agriculture would be reduced by more than half.
32. What benefit will the new diets bring to the world
A. The animals will be saved. B. People will need more water.
C. The climate change will stop. D. The pollution will be controlled
33. What can be called a “flexitarian” diet
A. Eat animal products every meal.
B. Eat plant-based vegetables every meal.
C. Eat mainly vegetables and never eat animal products.
D. Eat plant-based meal mainly and animal products sometimes.
34. What will happen if the new diet is popular globally
A. The climate will become warmer. B. The food consumption will increase.
C. People will have less greenhouse gas. D. People will produce more food waste.
35. What is the attitude of the author to the new diet
A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Opposed. D. Indifferent.

Last weekend, I went to Mark’s new house near a forest for a little get-together. After lunch when I was chatting with him and his wife Cody, he asked me, “Hey, Thora, have you ever been to a secret spot ” Before I could even finish saying no, Cody and Mark were already at the door with their jackets on. And the next moment we were heading out into the forest with a camera, a fishing net and a plastic bucket (桶).
We walked through the forest along a path by a small river. Breathing the fresh air, we three talked and laughed all the way.
“Hey! What are you guys doing ” someone suddenly shouted from behind. Mark and Cody’s eyes immediately widened, and without a word they started running. I had no choice but to follow them, getting my shoes wet and dirty with mud. We probably ran for about 10 minutes before Mark and Cody slowed down. I stopped to catch my breath and asked, “Who was that ”
Mark replied, “The most annoying neighbor ever. There’s no telling what could happen if he caught up with us. He is always making fun of us. I dislike him.” We kept walking on for a few more minutes. Then a beautiful lake appeared before our eyes. “Wow! Amazing!” I shouted and could hardly hold back my excitement. The lake was large and the water was deep and blue, looking so peaceful with tall trees around it.

【原文】M: Grandma Moses is among the most well-known 20th-century painters of the United States, yet she had hardly started painting before she was in her late seventies. She was born on a farm in New York, one of five boys and five girls. At 12, she left home and worked as a housekeeper until she married Thomas Moses at 27. They farmed most of their lives, first in Virginia and then in New York. Grandma Moses began to paint using oils in her old age because she wanted to keep busy and pass the time. Her pictures were first sold at the local drugstore and at a market, and were soon noticed by a businessman who bought everything she painted. Three of those pictures were exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art, and in 1940, she had her first exhibition in New York. Between the 1930s and her death, she produced some 1, 600 pictures.

As the cows enter the facility they are weighed, milked and productivity and health checks are carried out. The facility cleans itself at regular intervals(间隔)and if there is a problem, the robot sends the farmer a message.
Equipping a farm with robots is not cheap. However, farmers who have installed the robotic milking sheds, say they would never go back to the old system.
【答案】28. C 29. A 30. C 31. A

【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“The advantage for the cows is that they can choose when and how many times a day they want to be milked.(对奶牛来说,这样做的好处是它们可以选择每天什么时候挤奶以及挤奶多少次)”可知,机器人给奶牛带来的好处是它们可以更自由地被挤奶。故选A项。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“Because the robots are programmed to milk the cows whenever they arrive, the cows can be milked once, twice or even four times a day. It is an entirely voluntary system for the cows.(由于机器人经过编程,只要它们到达,就会给奶牛挤奶,因此每天可以给奶牛挤奶一次、两次甚至四次。对奶牛来说,这是一个完全自愿的制度)”可推知,作者可能会同意机器人系统是自愿的,奶牛可以根据自己的意愿挤奶。故选C项。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第二段中“One area where robots are making an appearance is farming. There is a robotic revolution going on in the milking industry, and cows, as well as farmers are experiencing the benefits.(机器人正在出现的一个领域是农业。挤奶行业正在进行一场机器人革命,奶牛和农民都在从中受益)”再结合全文可知,本文主要讲述了一种挤奶机器人,以及它对奶牛和农民的好处,所以A项“挤奶的机器人改革”是本文最好的标题。故选A项。

We tried to stay with the most conservative one of these which in our view is the flexitarian one, but even this has only one serving of red meat per week,” he added.
【答案】32. D 33. D 34. C 35. A

We tried to stay with the most conservative one of these which in our view is the flexitarian one, but even this has only one serving of red meat per week”(你可以从含有少量动物产品的饮食开始;有些人可能称之为地中海式饮食;我们称之为弹性素食饮食。
根据最后一段“If the world moved to this type of diet, the study found that greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture would be reduced by more than half.”( 研究发现,如果全世界都采用这种饮食方式,农业产生的温室气体排放量将减少一半以上。)可知,如果全球 都采取这种饮食方式,温室气体的产量会变得更少。故选C项。

【答案】Dear Chris,
Reading your email asking about interesting things that happened to me, I am writing to share with you a discussion held in my class recently on the topic “Is watching a movie better than watching the original work ”
My classmates have different views on the topic. Some of them are in favor of seeing films, for seeing films can save time and films are easy for people to understand. However, others prefer reading books to seeing films. They think there are more details in the book and that readers can appreciate the charm of language as well.
In my opinion, reading books may be the better choice because books are closely related to the author’s view. Besides, it’s convenient to enjoy a book whenever and wherever you like.
Yours,
Li Jin
