【句式拓展】
(1)regret to do sth 对将要发生的事感到遗憾/抱歉
We regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you the job. 我们遗憾地通知你,我们没法给你这份工作。
(2)mean to do sth 打算(想要)做某事,主语只能是“人”。
mean doing sth 意味着(要)做某事,主语不能是“人”。
To mean to do something and to actually do something are two different things. 打算做一件事和实际上做一
件事是两回事。
(3)can’t help to do sth 不能帮助做某事
can’t help doing sth 不禁做某事
She can’t help to clean the house because she is busy making a cake. 她不能帮忙打扫房子,因为她正忙着
做蛋糕。
We can’t help laughing when listening to the cross-talk. 我们听相声时都会情不自禁地笑。
(4)go on to do sth 做完某事后接着做另一件事
go on doing sth 继续(不停地)做正在做的事
Go on to do the other exercises after you have finished this one. 做完这个练习后, 请接着做其他的练习。
We went on talking till after midnight. 我们继续谈话直到午夜以后。
(5)stop to do sth 停下正在做的事去做另一件事
stop doing sth 停止做某事

(2)What about... “……怎么样 ”常用来提出建议。

2.提出论题
提出论题的方法各种各样,最常用的是开门见山直奔主题,如:The topic of my speech today is...;有时采用举例法;另外,用具体的统计数据也是一个有效的引出论题的方法,比如你要谈遵守交通规则的话题,可以从列举一系列有关车辆、车祸等的数据开始。
3.论证
论证就是要把道理讲清楚。常见的论证方法有举例法、因果法、对比法等。列举讲话要点,常用first of all,secondly,finally等。
4.结论
结论要简明扼要,以给听众留下深刻印象。有时会加上一句总结性的话。如: In a word...;Only in this way can we...。
5.结尾
结尾要干净利落。
常用的结束语有:

Like most people, I was brought up to look upon life as a process of getting. It was not until in my late thirties that I made this important discovery: giving away makes life so much more exciting. You need not worry if you lack money.
This is how I experimented with giving away. If an idea for improving the window display of a neighbourhood store flashes to me, I step in and make the suggestion to the storekeeper. One discovery I made about giving away is that it is almost impossible to give away anything in this world without getting something back, though the return often comes in all unexpected form.

For Alison Rollinson, picking out the best experiences from her volunteer work is a major challenge.
"There are so many to choose from," said Rollinson, who has spent more than one year doing disaster volunteer work after Hurricane Katrina.
"The best parts are having the opportunity to be in an environment where you can meet the needs of people and know that your time is being used in a good way," she said.
After spending her first few months working as a volunteer, Rollinson was hired full-time. Taking the step to do disaster relief work full-time—first as a volunteer and then as an employee—was just what needed to be done, Rollinson said.
Before Katrina hit, Rollinson had planned on moving to Key Largo and working as a hotel clerk. Seeing the need on the Gulf Coast, Rollinson changed her plans.
"I've always been interested in helping people out, and then, because of this hurricane and the devastation(毁坏) I saw on TV, I felt that my time would be better spent doing disaster work for a few months rather than sitting in a hotel," she said.
Rollinson said, "I haven't regretted that decision once. The experiences have been life-changing and have taught me a lot about myself and the Gulf Coast residents."

October sixteenth is World Food Day. This day is also the anniversary of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations(F.A.O.). The UN agency leads international efforts to defeat world hunger. It was created in 1945.
The F.A.O. says more than one hundred and fifty countries are to hold special events to celebrate World Food Day. Like most people, I was brought up to look upon life as a process of getting. It was not until in my late thirties that I made this important discovery: giving away makes life so much more exciting. You need not worry if you lack money.
This is how I experimented with giving away. If an idea for improving the window display of a neighbourhood store flashes to me, I step in and make the suggestion to the storekeeper. One discovery I made about giving away is that it is almost impossible to give away anything in this world without getting something back, though the return often comes in all unexpected form.
One Sunday morning, the local post office delivered an important special delivery letter to my home, though it was addressed to me at my office. I wrote the postmaster a note of appreciation. More than a year later I needed a post office box for a new business I was starting. I was told at the window that there were no boxes left, and that my name would have to go on a long waiting list. As I was about to leave, the postmaster appeared in the doorway. He had overheard (无意中听到) our conversation. “Wasn't it you that wrote us that letter a year ago about delivering a special delivery to your home ” I said yes. “Well, you certainly are going to have a box in this post office if we have to make one for you. For Alison Rollinson, picking out the best experiences from her volunteer work is a major challenge.
"There are so many to choose from," said Rollinson, who has spent more than one year doing disaster volunteer work after Hurricane Katrina.
"The best parts are having the opportunity to be in an environment where you can meet the needs of people and know that your time is being used in a good way," she said.
After spending her first few months working as a volunteer, Rollinson was hired full-time. Taking the step to do disaster relief work full-time—first as a volunteer and then as an employee—was just what needed to be done, Rollinson said.
Before Katrina hit, Rollinson had planned on moving to Key Largo and working as a hotel clerk. Seeing the need on the Gulf Coast, Rollinson changed her plans.
"I've always been interested in helping people out, and then, because of this hurricane and the devastation(毁坏) I saw on TV, I felt that my time would be better spent doing disaster work for a few months rather than sitting in a hotel," she said.
Rollinson said, "I haven't regretted that decision once. The experiences have been life-changing and have taught me a lot about myself and the Gulf Coast residents."
She said, "I hope that my experience will inspire others to come to the Gulf Coast to help, especially since so much work remains to be done. The needs are great for the Gulf Coast residents and volunteering to help is easy."
"All people have to do is to have an open mind and give us a call," Rollinson said. "Anyone can come here and they can help out in many different ways. It's great to be in such a supportive place where you can really feel the love."

October sixteenth is World Food Day. This day is also the anniversary of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations(F.A.O.). The UN agency leads international efforts to defeat world hunger. It was created in 1945.
The F.A.O. says more than one hundred and fifty countries are to hold special events to celebrate World Food Day. At F.A.O. headquarters in Rome, for example, runners will compete in a five-kilometer race through the city's historical area. The message of this year's World Food Day is “investing in agriculture for food security”.
