In June 1946 an airplane traveled from Rome to Paris. There was nothing unusual about this flight except one thing: for 20 minutes of the plane’s journey, one of its passengers became its pilot. The passenger was Dr. Helen Keller, an American author and educator who since childhood had been both blind and deaf.
Keller “told” the story to a reporter that she controlled the plane through hand “talk” between herself and Thomson, who translated Keller’s speech to others and spoke to Keller by pressing symbols into her hand. “The plane crew were amazed at her sensitive touch on the buttons,” Thomson said. “There was no shaking or vibration(震动). She just sat there and flew the plane calmly and steadily.” As pilot, Keller felt “the delicate movement” of the airplane better than ever before.
However, this was not Keller’s first time in the air. Her first flight as a passenger took place in 1919 during the film shoot of Deliverance, a film about her life. Though Keller had long been famous, some of the public still doubted that a blind and deaf person could successfully communicate with hearing people or graduate from college. To overcome this doubt, Deliverance’s producers wanted to show her doing all those things that able-bodied people could do, including flying a plane. She was glad to accept it.
Doubt about the ability of deaf-blind people didn’t end in Keller’s lifetime. But with Keller writing books, lecturing, and flying a plane, the public gradually changed their attitude towards the deaf-blind.
11.What do we know about the flight mentioned in paragraph 1
A.Nothing unusual happened at all. B.It was a flight from Paris to Rome.
C.Keller controlled the plane for 20 minutes. D.Keller was the only passenger on the plane.
12.Why were the plane crew so surprised
A.Keller was too nervous to control the plane. B.Keller could handle the plane’s buttons well.
C.Keller performed better than any other pilot. D.Keller didn’t communicate well with Thomson.
13.Why did the film producers want to show Keller flying a plane
A.To reflect Keller’s deep love for flying a plane.
B.To show Keller’s courage and determination in the air.
C.To present the great challenges of Keller’s early flying.
D.To overcome the doubt about deaf-blind people’s ability.

Fewer dings, please!
I have some important information. The average American—oh, wait. New notification(通知). CNN: something about Taylor and Travis. Hmmm. And our dog food is out for delivery. Whew. Why do they always send me such messages
The average American gets about 70 smartphone notifications a day. And according to a new study, the number is far higher for teenagers, whose phones ding and vibrate with hundreds or even thousands of daily notifications. This constantly distracts us from work, life, and each other.
“Humans are not good at doing so many things at the same time,” Professor Smith, a behavioral scientist, reminded us. “It takes extra time and efforts to switch our attention. We feel more tired and get interrupted so many times a day that these effects can lead to a decrease in our happiness and social connection.”
I am grateful to get the latest news that my favorite basketball team has won. I’m eager for messages from my family. But I wonder why The New York Times feels it is urgent to remind me, as they did this week, about “The 6 Best Men’s and Women’s Cashmere Sweaters.”
This is, of course, a circumstance created by ourselves. It is true that instant communication has brought us too much information. So many urgent notifications, not many of which are truly urgent; and only a few are interesting. So many hours spent looking at the light of a small screen, while so often being unaware of the world all around us. So why not choose to check notifications just several times a day
Hey! My Cashmere Sweater is here!
14.What does the underlined word “This” in paragraph 3 refer to
A.The result of a new study. B.The important information.
C.Receiving too many notifications. D.Getting messages from teenagers.
15.Which of the following may interest the author most
A.Messages from his grandparents. B.The delivery news about dog food.
C.Something about Taylor and Travis. D.The Best Men’s Cashmere Sweaters.
16.What is the author’s overall attitude toward smartphone notifications
A.Unclear. B.Negative. C.Positive. D.Supportive.

Wine experts have warned for years that climate change could result in shifting harvest seasons, lower quality wine, and limited plant growth. But here’s a piece of good news:In Bordeaux, France, one of the world’s main wine growing areas, climate change may actually make wine taste better—for now.
70-year data of wine critic (评论家) scores in Bordeaux, with weather data from the period, showed that wine quality—based on factors such as rich and strong taste—increased over time, according to a study.
For the years 1950 to 2020, scientists analyzed the variation in overall Bordeaux wine quality. The team’s statistical models tested how wine quality in Bordeaux was related to weather factors such as season length, temperature, and rainfall.
The highest-quality Bordeaux wines came from years with warmer and drier summers, cooler and wetter winters, earlier and shorter growing seasons. Climate change is expected to make these conditions more frequent in the region. For instance, it is predicted that France will become warmer, with a four-degree Celsius increase by 2100.Warm temperatures can increase grapes’ sugar content and create sweeter wine. Because Bordeaux wine producers traditionally rely on rainfall for water, there is a direct connection between the climate and wine productivity.
Study leader Andrew was surprised to find that more rainfall during the winter season when grapevines (葡萄 藤) are not growing, resulted in better quality wine for the following harvest. “Traditionally we consider weather during the growing season to see how it can affect grape quality. However, the vines are there all year round, and we found weather conditions in the non-growing season had an impact through the next harvest,” says Andrew. More rain in the winter might result in better water balance in the soil during the growing season. “Healthy vines make better grapes,” says Andrew.
17.What may be the effect of climate change on wine in Bordeaux in paragraph 1
A.The taste of the wine is better. B.The price of the wine is higher.
C.The wine production increases. D.The quality of the wine is lower.
18.What’s the purpose of the example in paragraph 4
A.To make a comparison. B.To arouse readers’ interest.
C.To give a recommendation. D.To explain the author’s opinion.
19.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.The impact of climate on grape quality throughout the year.
B.The positive effects of more winter rainfall on wine quality.
C.The importance of new wine producing ways in Bordeaux.
D.The traditional considerations of weather during the growing season.
20.In which section of a website can we read this text
A.Science. B.Lifestyle. C.Technology. D.Medicine.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Living with young adults is different from living with the children they once were. 21 . The rules make your entire household run well. Here are 4 most important rules to establish to help you and your teens get comfortable.
Ask for rent or help with bills
Get them to pay the cost of living if they have an income. This lets them contribute to the household while also saving up. But this is also an opportunity to train them for a more independent life, where bills are a reality. Make it clear that this isn’t a free ride. Don’t forget things like electric or water bills. 22 .
Discuss food arrangements
Tell them how much you’re willing to feed or cook for them. When they are living alone, they’ll have to feed themselves. Will they buy their own groceries Will they cook their own meals 23 . Ask them to prepare those meals for the household 2-3 nights a week.
Assign housework
24 . List all the tasks and choose 4-5 to assign to your teens. Or, prepare them for independent life by letting them handle all their own daily work: they wash their own clothes, clean their own living space, etc. Create a schedule for when they ought to be completed.
25
Let them know that they can’t hang around the house all day. It’s time for them to contribute to the household, and that means finding jobs, or studying to help them find work later. Suggest that they get an entry-level, part-time job. If you’re able, offer to help them pay for school.
A.You’ll need to set some basic rules
B.Order your young adults to go to college
C.Teach your teens to cook some basic meals
D.Encourage them to find work or get education
E.If necessary, have your teens pay their own part
F.You are providing for them as they live under your roof

Emily is a sixth-grade student in a small American town. She is a curious and adventurous girl who always dreams of exploring new places. Last summer, her dream came true when she got selected for a student exchange program to visit China.
Emily was super excited, but she knew that going to a different country with a brand new culture might not be easy. When she arrived in China, she had an open heart and lots of hope, but the cultural differences, the language barrier, and the unfamiliar surroundings made her feel a bit overwhelmed.
On her first day at a Chinese school, she felt like she was in a completely different world. The students spoke a language she couldn’t understand, and the way things worked in the classroom was very different from back home. During lunchtime, poor Emily sat all by herself in a corner of the cafeteria, feeling lost and lonely. Just then, a friendly Chinese girl came up to her with a warm smile and said, “Hello, my name is Li Shanshan. I noticed you’re new here. Would you like to be our friend ”
Emily was so relieved and thankful for the friendly offer. “Thank you,” she replied with a big smile. “I’m Emily, and I’m really happy to meet you.”
Shanshan introduced Emily to her group of friends, and they all welcomed her with open arms. They helped Emily with her Chinese language, taught her about Chinese customs, and shared their favorite Chinese foods. Slowly but surely, Emily started to feel more comfortable and understand the Chinese culture better.
One day, as the English teacher was planning her class schedule, she came up with an idea. She decided to assign each student in the class to do a presentation about their hometowns the next week. She believed this could be a great way for the students to learn about different cultures and improve their public speaking skills.
