Sister Song’s Fish Soup
During the Song Dynasty, a woman nicknamed Sister Song made a living by selling fish soup alongside the West Lake. During a trip to the West Lake, Emperor Gaozong tasted her fish soup and spoke very highly of it. The soup’s reputation spread far and wide, and it became a calling card for the city.
Sauteed Shrimps with Longjing Tea
The story of this dish relates to the Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty. On a tour to Hangzhou, one of the emperor’s chefs accidentally dropped Longjing tea leaves into the sauteed shrimps. The fragrance of the tea combined with the texture of the shrimp won the emperor over and a classic Hangzhou dish was born.

With the rapid development, the city of Chongqing is becoming more and more attractive to outsiders, including foreigners. For 26-year-old Moldovan Gabriela Cojocaru, who has the Chinese nickname Li Xiaoxiao, Chongqing is the beginning of a dream.
In September 2014, Xiaoxiao, who has studied ethnic dance and ballet since childhood, graduated from the Moldovan National Dance Academy, and several classmates joined her on a trip to China. However, she did not know any Chinese or even English. She made many friends from China, which gradually solved her obstacles in language communication and made herself better adapted to life in China.
“I think as a foreigner, first you have to learn Chinese,” she said. “Then you can go to better understand the culture and the Chinese people.” But after learning what she thought was Chinese, she discovered that the language she had spent two years learning is actually the Chongqing dialect. Such is her delivery that even a Chongqing local would be hard to tell that she is a foreigner by just hearing her voice. As Xiaoxiao thought Chongqing dialect was standard Chinese, she took considerable efforts to be good at it. This “mistake” has turned out to be a lucky strike.
But she is more interested in doing something that helps the two countries understand each other. As such, she introduced Chinese food or Chongqing food, and stories about China to her friends in Moldova. She plans to introduce the history and specialties of Moldova, such as Moldo van wine, to the Chinese. She hopes to let more people know that this country actually has a rich history of more than 5,000 years of wine-making.
“I’d love to do it,” she said. “I will continue to strengthen the culture of the two countries and hope that the two countries will become better and better.”

Birds rely on their sharp sense of hearing to detect prey（猎物） and identify other birds on the basis of their songs. Birds have better hearing than humans, so they hear with much more detail. So how do birds hear
Birds and humans both have an inner ear and a middle ear. However, birds differ from humans in that they lack an external ear structure. Where humans have an outer ear organ, birds have a funnel-shaped opening that functions as their outer ear, located on each side of their head. These openings are usually positioned behind and slightly below a bird’s eyes and are protected by soft feathers.
The position of a bird’s head also plays a role in its hearing abilities. Scientists have determined that noises register at different frequencies on each side of the bird’s head. Depending on the angle from which the noise originates, it records with a certain frequency in the left eardrum but with a different frequency in the right eardrum. This allows the bird to locate a sound’s origin.
For example, owls are known for their extremely accurate hearing, which helps them locate prey at night. This hearing ability is due in part to the unbalanced arrangement of the ear openings, with one opening being lower than the other. Sounds register in these openings at slightly different times. Owls can use this time difference, which is only 30 millionths of a second, to determine whether the sounds are coming from their left or their right. Some other birds have flaps（瓣膜） in front of their ears that help them determine whether sounds are coming from above or below. Some owls do appear to have ears on the top of their head, but those are actually feathers controlled by small muscles under the skin that do not affect their hearing at all.

So, after rescuing the 5 years old girl named Mia from the snowstorm, David took her to his van, and through her directions, a mile later, he noticed a car crashed into a pole. Before getting out, David called 911. Then he dashed to the car, where he discovered Mia’s mother, unconscious and severely injured in the driver’s seat.
David helped her out of the car and onto the van. When 911 arrived, he locked his van and accompanied Mia and her mother to the hospital. Thankfully, a couple of hours later, he received word from the doctors that Mia’s mother, Laura, had regained consciousness and was out of danger.
