Twelve years ago,Danny called me from a dark,damp subway station.“A baby!” he shouted.“Get down here,and flag down a police car or something.” By nature,Danny is a very calm person,so when I could almost feel his heartbeat through the phone line,I ran.
When I got to the subway station,Danny was holding a light-brown-skinned baby,about a day old.The baby had been wrapped in an oversize black sweatshirt and left on the ground in a corner behind the gate.

Madison Square Garden (MSG),a place for world-famous events in New York City,has actually been a group of buildings in different spots rather than a single building in one spot.In 1874,P.T.Barnum opened Barnum’s Monster Classical and Geological Hippodrome (BMCGH) at the corner of Madison Avenue and 26th Street,across from Madison Square Park.Two years later,bandleader Patrick Gilmore leased the building,added statues and fountains,and renamed it Gilmore’s Gardens.When William Kissam Vanderbilt took back control of the building,it was renamed Madison Square Garden in 1879.
A new grand Madison Square Garden was built at the same spot in 1890,with a ballroom,a restaurant,a theater,a rooftop garden,and a main hall with seating for 8,000.However,this complex Madison Square Garden lasted until 1925,when it was torn down to make way for a forty-story landmark.
When the second Madison Square Garden had been replaced in its spot across from Madison Square Park,the boxing promoter Tex Rickard built a new Madison Square Garden.This new Madison Square Garden was constructed in a different place,on 8th Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets and quite a distance from Madison Square Park and Madison Avenue.Rickard’s Madison Square Garden served primarily as an arena (场地) for boxing prize fights and circus events until it lost its usefulness in the late 1960s.

Scott asked his parents if he could try surfing.They said,“Of course.”And much to Scott’s surprise,they wanted to try surfing too.When Scott and his parents had their swim suits on,Scott’s dad went first and only lasted about five seconds before he wiped out.Then it was his mom’s turn.She actually made it longer than his dad did.When it was Scott’s turn,he was excited but a little bit nervous.He hopped on the board and took a stance similar to his snowboarding stance.Then the waves started.It felt similar to snowboarding but different at the same time.On his first ride,Scott rode for almost 30 seconds before wiping out.He was crazy about it though.
Gradually,Scott began to love the cruise.He got to know the people who often surfed there quite well.By the time the weeklong cruise was over,Scott had new friends he planned to keep in touch.Scott is the brave and lucky one since only eight percent of the experiencer or so really fell in love with it among a lot of the passengers who tried surfing the first day of the cruise.With a new hobby,and great memories,he apologized to his parents for earliest moaning and groaning and told them it was his best vacation ever.
