Types Of Students You Will Meet In College
There are thousands of universities around the world, and each school boasts its own traditions and slogans. Some schools pride themselves on sports, while others emphasize their research facilities. While there are a myriad of differences among each and every school, there will always be these three types of students in class.
The one who sits in the front row
There's at least one of these people in every single class, whether it's a required General Education class or an upper division major course. These students always sit in the front row and ask at least five questions every lecture.
They attend all the discussions and office hours, and try to turn in homework at least a week in advance. These are also the people who remind professors about assigned homework and upcoming exams. Nothing bad about being studious, but are they even human
The one who never studies (but still aces the class)
Standing as probably the most frustrating category of people in this list, these students won't know about a midterm until two days before. They go to class every once in a while when the class time doesn't clash with one of their many elaborate social plans, but never pay attention. Somehow, they still ace all their exams and end up with the top grade in the class.
The one who always falls asleep
This person comes to class every day, but somehow never stays awake for more than 20 minutes. You can sometimes hear the occasional snore from a corner of a large lecture hall, or catch their heads nodding like a pendulum near the front of the class if they're the studious type. But let's be real here: we've all been one of those students at some point.

Five weeks ago I had a total hip replacement surgery(散关节置换手术) in Canada, we have great healthcare system. That means we get our new hips for free.
My hip had been hurting me for years before I went to the doctor. Of course, it was free. She referred me to a surgeon, but the carliest appointment was in 10 months. That is what being free gets you. Ten months later, after some free X-rays, the surgeon told me I needed a surgery, which was about an 18-month wait, for some senior citizens had been on the operation list. Another 18 months! I dragged myself out of the surgeon's office.
Walking through the hospital, I thought about the situation. As the breadwinner of a large family, Icouldn't wait that long, so I had to get to the front line. I was fully aware of what a Canadian should be like(Canadians are usually considered gentle and caring), but this time I really needed to fight for myself. At that very moment, in the shop window of the hospital, I saw a sign which read,“Volunteers NordeSuddenly, an idea occurred to me——I would get the job. Fortunately, they signed me up immediat because the average age of the volunteers at the shop was 75. They were desperate for some young blood
Every Friday morning. I was at the shop. While seeing the hospital staff,I'd casually ask,“What you do ”Then I'd tell them,“Well, I'm getting my hip replaced -in 18 months. It's going to be so gr when the pain stops.“Soon, all the staff got to know me. Naturally, in my next appointment, the surge recognized me. Moments later, I had a surgery date just weeks away.

Circles can be found everywhere in the natural world, but with no accurate way to meas.ure them they are very mysterious and might never be fully understood. When you take the distance around a circle and divide it by the distance across a circle, you will always get Pi(m). While Pi is equal to about 3.14 when rounded, it is infinitely long. With the help of computers, mathematicians have been able to calculate Pi out to over a trillion decimal(小数)places. This makes Pi puzzling, even to the most famous mathematicians.
Pi Day is celebrated globally on March 14, since the way we write this date, 3/14, looks just like Pi when rounded. In 2009. U. S. Congress voted to officially make March 14 Pi Day.Certain parts of the world——places where March 14 is written as 14/3—will instead celebrate Pi Approximation Day which takes place on July 22nd because of the result of 22/7.
Pi has appeared in movies, comics, music, and more. “In modern movies, any time the filmmaker wants to create a sense of mystery, the symbol Pi is used,"says Blatner, People also love working to memorize the digits(数位) of Pi and competing against others to see who can remember most. The Guinness World Record for reciting the most digits of PV is held by Lu Chao of China, who successfully recited Pi to nearly 67.000 decimal places.
Above all, Pi Day is about having fun with the number, according to Blatner. People will celebrate Pi Day by eating pie and throwing pie, and with fun Pi-related games. Princeton,New Jersey holds a series of Pi-related festivities. Events this year include a surprise birthday party for Albert Einstein whose birthday also falls on March 14, and a “Walk a Pi Event”where participants will walk 3.14 miles together. Just like the number itself, the possibilities for Pi Day are truly endless.
28. What makes Pi mysterious
A. Ways to divide a circle.
B. Ways to use it when rounded.
C. Inability to write it as an expression.
D. Its plentiful decimal places.
29. Why is Pi Day celebrated in some places on July 22nd
A. Because it is voted officially.
B. Because it was corrected originally.
C. Because the division result is approximately equal to P.
D. Because that day is easier to remember.
30. What is the goal of using Pi in films according to Blatner
A. To move more viewers.
B. To call for viewers' attention.
C. To make the films more frightening.
D. To add something mysterious to the film.
31. What can we learn from the text
A. Lu Chao is the first Chinese to recite Pi.
B. Many states in the USA celebrate Pi day on July 22nd.
C. There are many different events to celebrate Pi day in the world.
D. Scientists will try their best to figure out the digits of Pi thoroughly.

Imagine you're standing in line to buy a snack at a store. You step up to the counter and the cashier scans your food. Next , you have to pay, but instead of scanning a QR Code(二维码) with your smart phone, you just hold out your hand so the cashier can scan your fingerprint. Or, a camera scans your face, your eyes or even your car.
Now, this type of technology might not be fa r away. As technology companies move away from the traditional password, biometric(生物特征识别的) security, which includes fingerprint, face and voice ID, is becoming increasingly popular.
In 2013, Apple introduced the iPhone 5s, one of the first smart phones with a fingerprint scanner. Since then, using one's fingerprint to unlock a phone and make mobile payments has become commonplace, bringing convenience to our lives . And since 2016, Samsung has featured eye-scanning technology in its top smart phones.while Apple's new iphone X can even scan a user's face. But despite its popularity, experts warn that biometries might not be as secure as we imagine.“Biometries is ideally good in practice, not so much, ”said John Michener,a biometries expert.
When introducing the new iPhone's face ID feature, Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice-president, said.“The chance that a random person in the population could look at your iPhones X and unlock it with their face is about one in a million' But it's already been done. In a video posted on a community website Read fit, two brothers showed how they were each able to unlock the same iPhone X gunning their own face. And they aren't even twins.
"We may expect too much from biometries," Anil Jain, a computer science profess or at Michigan State University , told CBS News.“No security systems are perfect.”
Earlier last year, Jain found a way to trick biometric security. Using a printed copy of a thumbprint, she was able to unlock a dead person's smart phone for the police, according to a tech website Splister.“It's good to see biometrica being used more," Jain told CBS News,"because it adds another factor for security. But using multiple security measures is the best defense.”
32. Which is the latest identification technology in a smart phone according to the passage
A. Face scanning. B. Eye scanning.
C. QR Code scanning. D. Fingerprint scanning.
33. What is a major problem of the iPhone X's face ID system

B. It often fails to recognize its owner's face.
C. Face data can be used for other purposes.
D. Different faces can be used to unlock the dame phone.
34. What is Anil Jain's opinion about biometric security
A. It is as secure as traditional measures.
B. It is perfect without much improvement.
C. It has caused much trouble for the police.
D. It should be used with other security measures.
35. What does the author intend to tell us in this passage
A. The popularity of biometries.
B. Security problems of biometries.
C. Various problems with biometries.
D. Great changes caused by biometries.

W: As a child, Liu Wenwen detested the suona, a "loud, high-pitched" traditional Chinese musical instrument, an ancestral heritage of her family that was to become her career.
She followed her parents into the trade at three years old, "just for fun." Her father's family has performed suona for seven generations, while the tradition on her mother's side of the family traces back to the early Qing Dynasty. The music plants in Liu's DNA, but it takes time and hard work to become a professional musician. The instrument is so loud that it annoyed the neighbors when she practiced at home." So my parents would wake me up at 4 a.m. every day and take me to practice outside in a park." Liu promoted the "hillbilly" music to an international audience. On China’s social platforms, her name is often followed by a video of her live performance at a concert in Sydney, Australia, alongside award-winning composer Tan Dun in 2017." It was a perfect dialogue between a Chinese instrument and a Western orchestra, loved by the musicians and audience alike," she said. "I felt my hard work had paid off. I trained for over 20 years, probably just to win cheers and applause for traditional Chinese music on the international stage."
