67.答案:
Maybe those old books were the solution to the problem. They wouldn’t cost anything so Madhuri
could accept without any pressure. I went to mom and my brother immediately. After hearing Madhuri’s
situation and my plan, my brother was quite willing to help. We sorted out the needed books for Madhuri
together very quickly. Looking at the neatly piled books, I felt quite satisfied and delighted but suddenly a
concern flashed across my mind, “Would Madhuri mind they are second-hand books ”
The next day, I got up early so that I could go to her house before going to school. Not knowing
whether she would accept the books or not, I knocked at the door nervously. When the door opened, I
{#{QQABLQyAogCAQBBAAQgCQwWqCAKQkBGAAIoGBBAMsAAACBFABAA=}#}
could see her surprised expression. Hearing that these books were old books of my brother, she accepted
them without hesitation. I also got a weight off my mind. On the way to school, I could see from her face
how happy she was. From that day on, something changed and as the days passed and the years moved on,
Madhuri and I became best friends.

Kyle Semrau came home on the morning of April 12 after an overnight shift feeling light-headed. He
told his wife he would be laying low for the day, joined by his 6-year-old daughter, Macie.
On a normal day, Macie would have been at school, but that particular morning she had refused to
even get dressed for school, so she stayed home. It turns out that her unexplained want to stay home was
for the best.
Later in the day. Semrau collapsed from a medical event that caused him to slip in and out of
consciousness. Macie learned her dad was in trouble when she heard him yelling. In a moment while
Semrau was conscious, Macie asked her dad for his phone passcode so she could unlock the device. She
logged in, opened the browser, and phoned the local police department.
Macie relayed the relevant information, including their address, to Judy Smith, the Eliot Police
Department’s administrative assistant who answered the phone.
“That’s really lucky,” Semrau told Boston 25 News. “I still have it saved. If you open up my browser,
that’s the way it is spelled, ‘Elliot poliz’. She pushed the call button, which actually goes right to the
dispatcher (调度员) here in town.”
The police arrived two minutes after Macie called.
Semrau’s medical emergency was due to issues with his sinuses (鼻窦炎), which led to difficulty
breathing, according to Seacoast Online. He is now home and doing well.
“If I can say anything about this whole experience, it’s for everyone to teach kids about awareness. If

Most of us would like to be more creative, but we assume there is little we can do about it.
Psychology professor K. Anders Ericsson claims that with enough practice, any of us can become experts.
However, he is quick to add that this requires a specific kind of practice that Ericsson calls ‘deliberate
practice’: that is, pushing beyond one’s comfort zone and setting goals that are above one’s current level of
performance. He says he has yet to find the limits on being successful and he doesn’t believe them to be
real.
Ericsson has looked primarily at artistic and athletic skills, but can these findings apply to creativity
Most experts agree that even if most people cannot hope to become creative geniuses, they can to become
more creative through practice. Psychologists claim that there are actually two levels of creativity, which
they refer to as ‘Big C’ and ‘small c’. Big C creativity applies to breakthrough ideas, ones that may change
the course of a field or even history. Small c creativity refers to everyday creative problem solving, like
creating a new recipe or improving a process, which psychologists subdivide further into similar and
different thinking. Similar thinking involves examining all the facts and arriving at a single solution. In
contrast, different thinking involves coming up with many possible solutions. What most people think of as
creativity generally involves different thinking and can be taught, practised and learnt.
Even with practice, different thinking alone cannot make one creative, however. Scott Barry Kaufman,
a cognitive psychologist, says that most creative people share one personality quality: openness to new
experience. Since this quality and these processes have been identified, less creative people can try to
emulate them. Normally, we tend to reproduce what we already know because creative ideas move us into
unfamiliar territory involving risks and following the usual behaviors is comfortable.
Moving outside of our comfort zone, engaging in deliberate practice and tolerating contradictory
{#{QQABLQyAogCAQBBAAQgCQwWqCAKQkBGAAIoGBBAMsAAACBFABAA=}#}
ideas, risk and failure are all things we can learn to do better. It is unlikely that doing so will transform any
of us into creative geniuses, but it does have the potential to increase our level of creativity.
32.Why does Ericsson think he can’t find the limits
A. No restrictions exist. B. Practice makes perfect.
C. Each one can succeed. D. The goal is ambitious.
33.Which of the following is an example of ‘small c’
A. Settling in outer space.
B. Building a plastic doghouse.
C. Developing robots to look after the old.
D. Explaining the theory of evolution in class.
34.What does the underlined word “emulate” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Justify. B. Limit. C. Copy. D. Assess.
35.What message does the author seem to convey in the text
A. We can learn to be more creative. B. Life is full of various challenges.
C. It’s better to take deliberate practice. D. Most can become creative geniuses.

How to Help Kids Save Our Oceans and Be Environmental Heroes
The world’s oceans benefit us in many different ways. 36_________ We need clean and healthy
oceans to protect our own health and to support future generations. Here are some simple ways to
encourage children to protect our oceans.
●Do a local clean-up
Beach, lake or river clean-ups are a great way to get children involved in keeping our environment
free from rubbish. Even a local park will benefit from a clean-up. Less trash in the environment in general
is less trash that could get washed away in our bodies of water. Gather the family to pick up rubbish
together. 37_________.
●Reuse disposed (废弃的) items
A great way to get kids involved in recycling is to encourage them to find other uses for old items.
Instead of throwing something away, help them turn it into art!
38_________ The children took a trip to the local beach and were encouraged to pick up different
types of rubbish that could be turned into artwork. “Trash isn’t just trash, because you can create loads of
things with it. It ends up not being trash anymore, but a beautiful piece of art,” one of the children said.
●39_________
More than 70 percent of the plastic we use does not get recycled, and a lot of this plastic waste is
swept into our oceans. Cutting down on plastic use is important if we are to protect our oceans.
{#{QQABLQyAogCAQBBAAQgCQwWqCAKQkBGAAIoGBBAMsAAACBFABAA=}#}
Often, pre-packaged fruits and vegetables at supermarkets are a big source of single-use plastic.
Getting kids interested in growing their own food is a fun and educational way to cut down on plastic use
and shorten supply chains of foods. Besides, educate kids to use as little plastic as possible.
●Eat sustainably sourced fish
40_________. Unsustainable fishing practices threaten the food security of these communities, both
by taking away these marine (海洋的) resources but also by harming their life. You can help by eating fish
that are rich in the sea.
A. Reduce plastic use
B. Yet, our oceans are being heavily polluted
C. Plastic is a material produced from oil by a chemical process
D. The kids will really see the difference it makes to an area that they play in
E. Fish is an essential part of a balanced diet for many people across the globe
F. People can have an opportunity to appreciate rare fish in an aquarium (水族馆)

Many years ago, I was at a girls’ school and our teacher made all the girls in the class sit next to
someone different every day.
On one of the days, my teacher paired Madhuri, who I had never talked to, and me to sit next to each
other. I noticed that she seemed very anxious. I asked her what was wrong. She remained silent at first, but
eventually, she told me that she had three sisters in her family and that her father couldn’t afford school
books for all of them.
My primary school was strict, as was the standard then, and if you didn’t have your school books the
teacher would make you leave the class. Madhuri was very anxious that day because she thought that the
teacher would tell her to leave the class. When the teacher saw that she didn’t have the books, he told
Madhuri that she couldn’t attend class for a week.
Madhuri was very sad. I felt so bad when I saw her pain that I decided to help her. I went to speak to
her and offered to buy the books for her. She refused my offer to help. She had very strong principles and
she would never accept things bought by others.
When I got home from school I told my mom the story. She said that it was good that I had tried to
help but I should stop worrying about it because there was nothing more that I could do if she had refused
my offer to help. I couldn’t stop worrying about it though. Then I had an idea. My elder brother, who had
once used the same series of books, graduated from school last year. Why not turn to him for help
