Automobiles can be categorized into various types on the basis of their shape, size, mechanical specifications, functions, etc. According to their application, automobiles are classified into trucks, special-purpose vehicles and passenger vehicles.

Trucks are heavy vehicles that are made for carrying heavy loads. They can be classified according to their body types, load-carrying capacity and cross country capacity.

The chassis is the under portion of an automobile. It consists of the transmission system, the suspension system, the steering system and the braking system.
