Dear Mr White,
Delighted to know that you’ll give us a lecture on continuation writing, I can’t wait to share
my difficulties with it and my suggestions on the lecture content.
To start with, I often struggle with the main idea of a text, which prevents me from quickly
organizing my ideas and effectively continuing the story. Besides, I find it challenging to think of
appropriate words to make my writing vivid and lively. Therefore, I hope you’d instruct us how to
rapidly grab the general idea of a text by analyzing some examples of continuation writing. Also,
it’s advisable to provide us with strategies for expanding vocabulary and properly using it in our
writing.
I’d appreciate it if my suggestions could be considered.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分 25分) (One possible version)
Just then, Janice received a call from an unknown number. “Hello Janice I’m at Paya
Station! I’m calling from a kind lady’s phone!” Josh cried out in his panicked voice. “Take it easy,
Josh. I’m coming,” Janice comforted him. Soon Janice caught the next train. On getting off at
Paya Station, she saw Josh dashing towards her, his face soaked with tears. Janice wrapped him
into a tight hug, whispering, “Thank goodness! I’ve found you at last!” Taking Josh’s hand, Janice
approached the kind lady passenger, who had been accompanying Josh and had missed her own
train. Janice expressed her sincere appreciation repeatedly.
Having waved goodbye to the lady, they headed for their destination. After about an
hour’s bus ride, they made it to their Grandpa’s house, where they threw a grand birthday party for
Grandpa, singing and dancing cheerfully. Having had a delicious meal and a happy chat, they
parted with Grandpa and started their trip back home. This time, Janice held Josh’s hand all the
way and they boarded the returning train. “Thankfully you don’t have to be put through that
terrible experience,” Janice smiled at Josh, assuring her brother, “Never will I leave you alone.”
For them, this unforgettable trip would stick in their memories.

Text 10
W: Good morning, everyone. Welcome to Healthy You and Me. Joan Collins once said “Age is just
a number” and a new study finds the English actress was right — more than half of Americans feel
younger than their actual age.
A survey conducted among 2,000 Americans reveals 77% of those over 40 years old feel
seven years younger than they really are and nearly half refuse to admit they are aging. Those who
participated noted they try not to admit they are aging for fear others may think they are not as
energetic as they once were. And this in turn led to 39% stating they will hold off getting glasses
for as long as possible — participants feel glasses make them look older. Participants, however,
stated that they do not accept they are aging until they are 47 years old. Just three years later, they
begin to worry about age-related bodily changes. Many are concerned about losing brain power. A
team at Northwestern University found stimulating older people’s brains could improve their
memories to be as good as those of people decades younger. That’s all for today’s program. See
you guys tomorrow.
