fool 傻瓜,愚弄
既可作名词,也可作动词,用法如下:
n.蠢人;傻瓜
At that time, I realized my mistakes. What a fool I am!
v.愚弄
You can’t fool me with that old excuse.
拓展:foolish形容词,意为“傻的;愚蠢的”, 相当于silly。
我真蠢,竟相信她说的话。
I was foolish enough to believe what she said.
露西不是傻瓜,那样欺骗她是愚蠢的。
Lucy is not a fool. It’s foolish to fool her.
2. get dressed 穿衣服
get dressed动词短语,意为“穿衣服”, 相当于be dressed。如果后面有表示“衣服/颜色”的名词做宾语时,需用介词in,即get/be dressed in+表示“衣服/颜色”的词。
拓展:get dressed与be dressed (in)
get dressed 表示“穿”的动作He’s getting dressed.
Go and get dressed! 去把衣服穿好!
He is getting dressed. 他正在穿衣服。
be dressed (in) 表示“穿”的状态He’s dressed in grey.
例:快点穿上衣服。Hurry up and get dressed .
新娘身穿白色礼服。The bride is dressed in white.
3. stay up 意为“熬夜” 。反义词wake up
例:他经常熬夜玩电脑游戏。
He often stays up to play computer games.
stay up doing sth. 意为“熬夜做某事”。
例:她熬夜看书,直到午夜。
She stayed up reading until midnight.

Last Friday night, my friend invited me to his birthday party
invite sb. to+某地(活动/聚会) 意为“邀请某人到某地或参加某活动”。
例:我们想邀请他来我们家。
We would like to invite him to our house.
(1) invite sb. to do sth. 意为“邀请某人做某事”。
她邀请我同她共进晚餐。
She invited me to have dinner with her.
(2) invite的名词形式为invitation,意为“邀请”。
at the invitation of sb. 表示“应某人之邀”
accept/refuse the invitation表示“接受/拒绝邀请”

show up 露面,到场;(使)看得见
e.g. We waited until five o’clock, but he did not show up.

other 其余的
e.g. Look at the twins. One is thin, the other is heavy.

辨析:the other, another, other, others, the others
the other特指“两者中的另一个”,常与one 搭配构成one... The other... 一个……另一个……
another泛指三者或三者以上中的另一个,后接单数名词。
other泛指别的;其他的。后常接复数名词或不可数名词。
others泛指其他的人或物, 后不接名词。some... others... 一些……另一些……
the others特指某一范围内的另外的人或物。some... the others... 一些……其余的……
