M: Hi, boys and girls, my name’s Kyle Hume. Thank you for inviting me to your college. I’m here today to talk to you about how to communicate in an interview. During your life, you will have all kinds of interviews. There will be interviews for university places, interviews for part-time jobs and full-time jobs and even interviews as exams. But all the tips I’m going to talk about today are useful in any of these situations. One of the key things to remember is how to speak during your interview. If you’re nervous, you may speak very quickly, so try to speak more slowly. Speak clearly and remember the importance of body language. Always make sure that you look at the interviewer. If there is more than one interviewer, make sure you look at each one of them. This makes you seem open and honest. Smiling is always very positive as it suggests you are enjoying yourself and it makes you appear friendly and relaxed. Finally, I want to give you some interesting studies. Most people decide what they think about a stranger within five minutes of meeting them. According to a research, 50% of somebody’s impression is based on the way a person is dressed. The rest is based on the way you speak and what you say. This is surprising, but important information. Thank you for listening.

At age 14, Kristin Beale suffered injuries in an accident. She was riding one Jet Ski on a lake when a schoolmate ran over her, leaving her with a serious spinal cord (脊髓) injury.
Before the accident, Beale was an active student at Henrico’s Deep Run High School, involved in competition cheerleading and hockey. Afterward, she had to relearn how to perform daily tasks. “When I was in hospital, doctors told my parents I would be a vegetable, and that I wouldn’t be able to breathe or swallow. I wanted to disprove everything they had on their list,” she says.
Beale began writing about her experiences while working on her recovery in California. By the time she finished, she had written 32 stories. She narrowed them down and eventually gathered them into her first nonfiction book, “Greater Things”, about how people react to her and how she has overcome her injuries and stays positive. “I never thought it would become a book, but that’s how it all started,” Beale says.
Her second book, “Date Me”, is a collection of comics coming from three dozen unsuccessful dates. “I would turn those dates into comic strips,” Beale says. Instead of typical banter, she says, each meeting was a “disability-centered date. It felt like interviewing about my disability. I would open up on the dates.” Trying to find humor in something that is not really funny. Beale drew comics about her dates’ reactions to her wheelchair-bound status. She didn’t start dating to get material for a book. Beale notes, “I love to meet people, go out and do things. It turned into,’ How can I turn a waste of time and hurt feelings into something good ’”
Now working as a literary scout for her publisher, Morgan James Publishing in Hampton, Beale continues to write. Another nonfiction book, “A Million Suns”, details her journey “from the darkness of disability into the sunlight of circumstance” and how she has found happiness.
24.What might be on the doctors’ “list” for Beale
A.Daily tasks for treatment. B.Consequences of Beale’s injury.
C.Diets during recovery. D.Instructions on using drugs.
25.Why did Beale begin writing stories during her recovery
A.To publish a book of her own. B.To cheer herself up in the hospital.
C.To record her experiences after injury. D.To encourage the patients with disabilities.
26.How did Beale usually behave while dating
A.She didn’t take it seriously. B.She was careful and sensitive.
C.She talked with a sense of humor. D.She was honest and open-minded.
27.What’s the theme of the book “A Million Suns”
A.Beale’s skills in successful dates. B.Beale’s theory on true happiness.
C.Beale’s dream of a brighter future. D.Beale’s struggle with spinal cord injury.
根据第二段““When I was in hospital, doctors told my parents I would be a vegetable, and that I wouldn’t be able to breathe or swallow. I wanted to disprove everything they had on their list,” she says.(“当我在医院的时候,医生告诉我的父母,我将成为一个植物人,我将无法呼吸或吞咽。我想推翻他们清单上的所有东西,”她说)”可知,医生给Beale的“清单”上可能有Beale受伤的后果。故选B。
25.细节理解题。根据第三段“Beale began writing about her experiences while working on her recovery in California. By the time she finished, she had written 32 stories. (Beale在加州康复期间开始写她的经历。到她完成的时候,她已经写了32个故事)”可知,Beale在康复期间开始写故事是为了记录她受伤后的经历。故选C。
26.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“I would open up on the dates.” Trying to find humor in something that is not really funny. Beale drew comics about her dates’ reactions to her wheelchair-bound status.(约会的时候我会敞开心扉。”

Gather together a couple of good friends and take a leisurely stroll through the streets — this is what many youngsters in China enjoy doing when they visit a new city.
To them, Citywalk means “roaming around the city” on foot. Participants can follow a distinctive urban route, soaking up the atmosphere, exploring old buildings, browsing boutique shops, sipping a cup of coffee, or indulging in authentic local snacks.
Citywalk can be a special guided trip for a small group of people, or simply a leisurely stroll for one or two to explore new areas, sticking to the key point: avoiding famous scenic spots and big crowds to gain a more inclusive experience of the places you visit. Besides interacting with a city, Citywalk provides young people with a new social scene, where they who share the same interests and ideas can easily make friends.
In China, the Citywalk trend is spreading from first-tier cities like Beijing and Shanghai to second and third-tier cities, encouraging more participants and event organizers to get involved. Some organizers invite folk culture researchers and enthusiasts to act as tour guides. Xiao Yiyi, a young entrepreneur in Changsha, recently launched six Citywalk routes in different cities on her social media account, with the aim of providing experiences for visitors to “walk in open-air museums”. Her Changsha route features more offbeat sights like historical architecture from the 19th century, artsy old alleys, and even a stop-off to sample the local spicy crayfish specialty.
Even though Citywalk is a relatively new phenomenon, it is offering a positive change to urban travelers as they can better choose the experiences based on their interests and needs. At the same time, Citywalk represents an opportunity for tour guides and travel service providers to offer a more tailored, professional service to meet with ever-changing market demands.
28.Why do young people choose Citywalk
A.To enjoy a guided tour.
B.To cut down expenses.
C.To dig deeper into a city.
D.To make new friends.
29.What is the most notable feature about Citywalk
A.Doing sightseeing on foot. B.Avoiding hot scenic spots.
C.Taking a local tour guide. D.Keeping a fixed urban route.
30.What might Xiao Yiyi be
A.A tour guide B.A culture researcher.
C.A Citywalk enthusiast. D.An event organizer.
31.What is the author’s attitude to the Citywalk trend
A.Favorable. B.Dismissive C.Doubtful. D.Unclear.
【答案】28.C 29.B 30.D 31.A
根据第二段“To them, Citywalk means “roaming around the city” on foot. Participants can follow a distinctive urban route, soaking up the atmosphere, exploring old buildings, browsing boutique shops, sipping a cup of coffee, or indulging in authentic local snacks.(对他们来说,Citywalk的意思是“在城市里漫步”。参与者可以遵循独特的城市路线,沉浸在氛围中,探索古老的建筑,浏览精品店,喝一杯咖啡,或沉迷于正宗的当地小吃)”可推知,年轻人选择城市漫步是因为可以深入了解一个城市。故选C。
29.细节理解题。根据第三段中“Citywalk can be a special guided trip for a small group of people, or simply a leisurely stroll for one or two to explore new areas, sticking to the key point: avoiding famous scenic spots and big crowds to gain a more inclusive experience of the places you visit. (城市漫步可以是一小群人的特别导游之旅,也可以只是一两个人悠闲地漫步,探索新的领域,坚持关键点:避开著名景点和拥挤的人群,以获得更全面的游览体验)”可知,城市漫步最显著的特点是避开热门景点。故选B。
30.推理判断题。根据第四段中“Some organizers invite folk culture researchers and enthusiasts to act as tour guides. Xiao Yiyi, a young entrepreneur in Changsha, recently launched six Citywalk routes in different cities on her social media account, with the aim of providing experiences for visitors to “walk in open-air museums”. Her Changsha route features more offbeat sights like historical architecture from the 19th century, artsy old alleys, and even a stop-off to sample the local spicy crayfish specialty.(一些组织者邀请民间文化研究人员和爱好者担任导游。长沙的年轻企业家肖依依最近在她的社交媒体账户上推出了六条不同城市的城市漫步路线,旨在为游客提供‘在露天博物馆漫步’的体验。她的长沙路线上有更多不寻常的景点,比如19世纪的历史建筑、充满艺术气息的老巷子,甚至还会停下来品尝当地的辛辣小龙虾)”可推知,她是一位城市漫步活动的组织者。故选D。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Even though Citywalk is a relatively new phenomenon, it is offering a positive change to urban travelers as they can better choose the experiences based on their interests and needs. At the same time, Citywalk represents an opportunity for tour guides and travel service providers to offer a more tailored, professional service to meet with ever-changing market demands.(尽管Citywalk是一个相对较新的现象,但它为城市旅行者提供了一个积极的变化,因为他们可以根据自己的兴趣和需求更好地选择体验。与此同时,城市步行街也为导游和旅游服务供应商提供了一个机会,让他们能够提供更有针对性、更专业的服务,以满足不断变化的市场需求)”可知,作者认为Citywalk让城市旅行者可以根据自己的兴趣和需求更好地选择体验内容,同时也让导游和旅游服务供应商能够提供更有针对性、更专业的服务,以满足不断变化的市场需求。由此推知,作者对于Citywalk这一旅行趋势是持赞成态度的。故选A。
D
If quiet listening involves being silent to give people room to talk, loud listening is about saying things intended to get a reaction out of them. This was the way Steve Jobs listened. He would put a strong point of view on the table and insist on a response. Why do I call this listening, instead of talking, or even yelling (吼叫) Because Steve didn’t just challenge others; he insisted that they challenge him back.
Obviously, this approach works only when people feel confident enough to rise to the challenge. Just as some people are frightened by quiet listening, other people are offended (冒犯) by loud listening. If you are a loud listener, how do you deal with people who are either constitutionally unable to stand up to an aggressive (强势的) boss or whose position is too unimportant to allow them to feel secure, even if the larger culture welcomes this behavior
If you have a loud listening style, you need to go to some lengths to build the confidence of those who you’re making uncomfortable. And as people witness one another challenging the boss, they will grow to feel it’s safe to do so as well. You don’t have to adopt Steve’s style to be a loud listener. Paul Saffo, an engineering professor at Stanford, describes a technique he calls “strong opinions, weakly held.” Saffo has made the point that expressing strong, some might say unacceptable, positions to others is a good way to get to a better answer, or at least to have a more interesting conversation.
I love this approach in my sales work. I’ve always found that saying what I think really clearly and then going to great lengths to encourage disagreement is a good way to listen. I tend to state my positions strongly, so I have had to learn to follow up with, “Please poke holes in this idea — I know it may be terrible. So tell me all the reasons we should not do that in our marketing.”
32.What kind of listener was Steve Jobs
A.He would listen attentively. B.He would push for a response.
C.He presented his views peacefully. D.He seldom contradicted the speaker.
33.On what occasion can you use the loud listening style according to the author
A.When you feel sure about your topic.
B.When you’re facing a rather aggressive boss.
C.When people talking to you are in a lower position.
D.When people feel safe about challenging your authority.
34.What does the underlined part “poke holes” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Find mistakes. B.Become interested. C.Make predictions. D.Keep balanced.
35.What does the author most probably do
A.A college professor. B.A business manager.
C.A book reviewer. D.A television presenter.
【答案】32.B 33.D 34.A 35.B
根据第一段“This was the way Steve Jobs listened. He would put a strong point of view on the table and insist on a response.(这就是史蒂夫·乔布斯倾听的方式。他会提出一个强有力的观点,并坚持要求对方作出回应)”可知,史蒂夫·乔布斯是会要求回应的听众。故选B。
33.细节理解题。根据第三段“If you have a loud listening style, you need to go to some lengths to build the confidence of those who you’re making uncomfortable. And as people witness one another challenging the boss, they will grow to feel it’s safe to do so as well.(如果你的倾听风格是大嗓门,那么你就需要花些力气去建立那些被你弄得不自在的人的信心。当人们目睹彼此挑战上司时,他们也会逐渐觉得这样做是安全的)”可知,当人们对挑战你的权威感到安全时,你可以使用大声听的方式。故选D。
34.词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“I know it may be terrible. So tell me all the reasons we should not do that in our marketing.” 故选A。
根据最后一段“I love this approach in my sales work.(我喜欢在我的销售工作中使用这种方法)”以及“So tell me all the reasons we should not do that in our marketing.(所以请告诉我,我们不应该在营销中这么做的所有理由)”结合选项可推知,作者有可能是业务经理。
Being honest may not get you a lot of friends, but it will get you the right ones. That’s true, so you should pursue authentic positivity in your friendships, the opposite of toxic (有毒的) positivity that would have you encouraging friends in all things, regardless of what you might feel or observe or know about the challenges of life. 36
1. Ask questions.
A feature of authentic positivity is a curious mindset, a mentality where you are less locked into “telling it like it is” and more interested in wondering and exploring the possibilities together with your friend. 37 If your friendship has a history of welcome advice-giving, your question could be “Are you looking for ideas, or do you just want me to listen ”
2. 38
“That’s so disappointing” is sometimes the most positive thing you can say to your friend when they are struggling. Resisting the urge to say “It’s all going to work out; don’t worry” shows your friend that you see them in their pain, and that you are available to support them here and now. 39 You can use “yes/and” statements like “What happened at work is so frustrating—AND I know how creative you are, so you’ll find a way to move forward.”
3. Learn to apologize —and ask for an apology.
40 That includes you, too. Being authentic in a friendship means having the freedom to say to a friend, “I’m sorry I hurt you.” It also means being able to say, “Your words/ actions hurt me.” Friendships that stand the test of time have room for mistakes, and for repair.
A.Name hard truths.
B.Don’t disappoint your friend.
C.Every friend misses the mark sometimes.
D.Instead, friends should be authentic and positive.
E.Here are three ways to be an authentically positive friend.
F.But that doesn’t mean you need to focus on the negative all the time.
G.Positive friends ask each other questions, and listen deeply to the answers.
【答案】36.E 37.G 38.A 39.F 40.C
36.上文“That’s true, so you should pursue authentic positivity in your friendships, the opposite of toxic (有毒的) positivity that would have you encouraging friends in all things, regardless of what you might feel or observe or know about the challenges of life. E选项“Here are three ways to be an authentically positive friend. (以下是三个可以让你成为一个真正积极的朋友的方法)”呼应下文每一段的小标题,故答案为E。
37.本段的小标题“Ask questions. (提问问题)”及空后“If your friendship has a history of welcome advice-giving, your question could be “Are you looking for ideas, or do you just want me to listen ” (如果你的友谊存在一段可提供建议的历史,你的问题可以是“你是在寻求建议,还是只是想让我听听?”)” G项“Positive friends ask each other questions, and listen deeply to the answers. (积极的朋友会问对方问题并认真倾听对方的回答)”符合本段主题,所以答案定位G。
38.空格处于小标题的位置,所以应该和其他段落的小标题保持一致,都是祈使句结构,因此答案定位到A和B选项。由本段““That’s so disappointing” is sometimes the most positive thing you can say to your friend when they are struggling. Resisting the urge to say “It’s all going to work out; don’t worry” shows your friend that you see them in their pain, and that you are available to support them here and now. (有时候“这太令人失望了”这句话是你在朋友挣扎时对他们说的最积极的话。克制住说“一切都会好起来的;别担心”的冲动,让你的朋友知道你看到了他们的痛苦,你可以随时支持他们)”可知,作为真正积极的朋友,作者建议我们要敢于说出真实的情况。A项“Name hard truths. (说出残酷的真相)”符合。选项中的“hard”呼应本段形容词“disappointing”,故选A。
39.前文“Resisting the urge to say “It’s all going to work out; don’t worry” shows your friend that you see them in their pain, and that you are available to support them here and now. (克制住说“一切都会好起来的;别担心”的冲动,让你的朋友知道你看到了他们的痛苦,你可以随时支持他们)”强调我们要敢于说出真相,哪怕是消极表达。后文“ You can use “yes/and” statements like “What happened at work is so frustrating—AND I know how creative you are, so you’ll find a way to move forward.” (你可以使用“是/和”这样的语句,比如说,“工作中发生的事情太令人沮丧了,我知道你有多有创造力,所以你会找到前进的方法”)”介绍了我们也可以对朋友说一些肯定的表达,前后句意呈转折关系,所以F选项“But that doesn’t mean you need to focus on the negative all the time. (但是那并不意味着你需要一直关注消极的东西)”符合题意。故选F。
40.本段的小标题“Learn to apologize —and ask for an apology. (学习道歉——并要求道歉)”及根据空后的内容“Friendships that stand the test of time have room for mistakes, and for repair. (经得起时间考验的友谊中都会存在犯错和可恢复的情况)”描述了我们都会犯错,要学会道歉。C项“Every friend misses the mark sometimes. (每个朋友都有犯错的时候)”贴合题意,“miss the mark”和 “mistake”内容一致,故选C选项。

第二节:读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
We moved to a small seaside community in New Zealand 10 years ago, because my husband Phil worked as a biologist and he had to do research near the sea. I had seen seals (海豚) around Pilot Bay, which is near here. Sometimes you see them out on the rocks, sunning themselves or playing-but usually in their own territory. They never thought about disturbing their neighbors.
It was a dark winter morning in August this year when a seal came. At 5:50 a.m., I left the house to go fitness training. I went down to the car parked in the driveway and heard a growl (咆哮). I thought our cat, Coco, must have chased a dog under the car. I jumped into the car to avoid getting my ankles bitten, and moved slowly, but then I felt the car hit something. When I got out to have a look, I couldn’t see anything and thought it must have moved on. Then when I got back into my seat, I saw a baby seal in the headlights.
I thought, Oh, my God, “but didn’t panic—the ocean is just down the driveway and I thought it would find its way back. Off I went to the training center and gave everyone there a laugh when I said, “Sorry I’m late; there was a seal under the car.” I didn’t think about it again until I got home. As I walked through the garage (车库), I noticed our baskets had been moved. I wondered if it was the seal, but then I guessed it could not be the seal because I didn’t think it could fit through the cat door, which was the only way into the garage. But I was wrong. As I opened the door to the house, I brushed something and heard this flip-flip-flip-flip sound, and thought, “My God, that is the seal.”

It was so cute like a lovely soft toy. It had watery eyes and looked at me like a chi id, which made me desperate ty want to keep it secretly. But I knew it was a wild animal and it should be back to its home, because wild animals belong to the wild. With a deep sigh, I phone d Phil, who was on his way home from a work trip. He told me that wild animals smelled bad and I probably never knew how sharp their teeth were. On Phil’s arriving home, we immediately looked for the contact information.
We called Animal Protection Station, and a worker came over. It was sad to see the little lovely wild creature wrapped up in a net to be taken away, but a great relief lifted from my inner heart when the worker said it would be released into the sea after being checked. Experiencing this fortuitous encounter with the seal reminded me that we should help raise awareness of protecting seals. So, I together with Phil, posted the photos on the social media and it snowballed. For us, it was pretty good to see so many people care for our lovely wild neighbors: seals.

D.Unclear.
