Revision 定语从句
(1)含义:修饰某一名词或代词的从句叫定语从句。一般紧跟在它所修饰的先行词之后。(2)先行词:被定语从句修饰的词叫先行词。
(3)关系词:
①含义:引导定语从句的词叫关系词,关系词有关系代词和关系副词。
②关系代词有that, which, who, whom, whose, as等;关系副词有when, where, why等。
③作用:引导定语从句;代替先行词;在定语从句中担当一个成分。
e.g. The fish that/which come from the river can’t live in the sea.

④ 先行词表人用who/that, 主语,宾语,表语.
先行词表物用which/that, 主语,宾语,表语.
先行词表人或物的,用whose, 即whose + n.

▲. 1. 当关系代词在从句中作主语时不能省略,作宾语时则可以省略.
2. 当先行词被序数词、形容词最高级修饰或是不定代词或既有人又有物时,关系代词 只能用that,而不能用which.
e.g. This is the best film that I have seen.
3. 关系代词在定语从句中作主语时,从句的谓语动词的人称和数须和先行词一致。
e.g. I don’t like people who talk much but do little.

Language Points
1. 关系代词whom在从句中作介词of的宾语,可用who代替,也可以省去,但当把介词提前时只能用whom而不能用who。
e.g. The old are the people who/whom we should take care of.
= The old are the people of whom we should take care.
2. pride n.自豪,骄傲,形容词为proud;
take pride in...=be proud of.. 以……为骄傲
the pride of ……的骄傲
e.g. I take pride in my work.
The Great Wall is the pride of the Chinese.
He was proud of himself for not giving up.
3. (1)—How high/tall/long/deep/wide...+is+主语
—It's +数量+ high/tall/long/deep/wide.
Language Points
eg. —How big is the Sahara
—It's about 8,600,000 square kilometers in size.
(2)数词-名词-形容词 作定语
eg. This room is 8 meters wide.
= This is an 8-meter-wide room.
4. interest/interesting/interested
(1)interest 不可数名词 “兴趣” 动词 “引起……的兴趣”,其主语多为事或物。
eg. I have no interest in your plan.
Geography doesn't interest him.
(2)interesting 形容词,主语通常是物。
eg. The book is very interesting.
(3)interested 形容词,“感兴趣的”主语通常是人,且多用于be/get/feel/become interested in 结构中。
Language Points
be interested in (=have/show interest in) sth. 对某事感兴趣
be interested in (=have/show interest in) doing sth. 对做某事感兴趣
eg. He is interested in math. 他对数学感兴趣。
I'm interested in playing soccer. 我对踢足球感兴趣。
5. die of 死于(疾病、衰老等内因)(如cancer, heart trouble 等)。
eg. The man died of lung cancer.
die from 死于(事故等外因)(如accident, earthquake 等)。
eg. Many people died from the earthquake.
辨析:dead/die/death/dying
①dead adj. 死的
eg. The poor man is dead.
②die v.死亡,断气”。
eg. A year later my dog died. 一年后我的狗死了。
Language Points
注意:die 表动作,是终止性动词,不能与时间段连用。
他的祖父已死了两年了。
His grandpa died two years ago.
=His grandpa has been dead for two years.
③ death 是名词,用来作主语、宾语等。
eg. Her grandfather's death made her sad.
④ dying 既是die 的现在分词,也是个形容词,表示“濒临垂危”“要死”之意。
eg. I think his grandpa is dying. 我想他的祖父要死了
6. pleasure n. 快乐
eg. It is a pleasure for me to work with you.

Attributive clauses(定语从句)
who 在此引导定语从句,在定语从句中作主语或宾语,也可以用that来替换。
whom 在此引导定语从句,在定语从句中作宾语。
whose( + n.)在句中引导定语从句,其先行词既可以是人,也可以是物。
eg. 1. He was a Ming dynasty explorer whom/who we Chinese people are proud of.
2. He was a great thinker who/that had many wise ideas about human nature and behavior.
3. He was also a famous philosopher whose wise sayings have influenced many people in different countries.
