From AI-made jokes to Harry Potter fashion videos, AI can be used to write funny jokes. But can it be as funny as a human And if it can, does it show a danger to writers in the future It is a little different in this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, because anyone can make a joke, even robots.
A small robot come up with jokes from audience suggestions, which were then performed by humans. The results could be very funny, but sometimes they weren’t funny at all.
One performer at Edinburgh Festival Fring e said he’s using AI to make jokes for him because he’s out of ideas. Many artists are worried that AI could end up doing their jobs for them.
From concerns in schools and colleges about students using ChatGPT for their work, to writers and actors worrying that AI could be used to replace them, fears about the dangers of AI are a hot topic in the world.

In my first class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it. I said, “Mrs. Smith, the doctor said I have attention problems. I might not be able to do it.” She looked at me, “You are not different from your classmates, young man.”
I tried, but I didn’t finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to take it home.
In my bedroom, the story suddenly became clear to me. It was about a blind person, Louis Braille. He lived in a time when the blind couldn’t get much education. But Louis didn’t give up. Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots (点), which opened up a whole new world of knowledge.
If Louis could find his way out of his problems, why should I ever give up I finally completed the task within 40 minutes.
When I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, it was quite a surprise when it came back to me the next day—with an “A” on it. Inspired and touched, I believe one can find his way out of difficulty with determination and efforts.

Josie, who is 15 years old, said, “Why do my parents do the same things they tell me not to do What can I do ”
That is a very good point. Parents can be sometimes inconsistent (不一致), and usually they don’t realize it. You see this a lot in many things like smartphones. Parents always say to their kids, “Oh, you can’t use that. That device (设备) is bad for you, so stop using it at the table. It’s harmful.” But then they are on theirs continually.
What can teenagers do with it I would say you should point it out by calmly saying something like “You tell me not to do that, but you do it to me, so you can understand where I’m coming from. That’s not ideal.” They might object to it, but I think most parents who care about being parents would say, “That’s a reasonable point.” If you can talk about it in a calmer and stress-free manner, most parents will respond positively.
66. How did Josie feel according to her words in paragraph 1
A. Proud. B. Bored. C. Hopeful. D. Worried.
67. What does the underlined word “theirs” in paragraph 2 refer to
A. The teenagers’ points. B. The parents’ smartphones.
C. The devices in the house. D. The tables in the house.
68. What should teenagers do with their parents’ inconsistency (不一致)
A. Complain of it continually. B. Do some studies differently.
C. Talk with their parents calmly. D. Object to it personally.
69. What is the author’s purpose in last paragraph
A. To list a fact. B. To ask a new question. C. To show a result. D. To give a suggestion.
E
To some people, there is nothing more appetizing (开胃的) than the smell of meat cooking over an open air. Throughout the world, people love to eat barbecue (烧烤), because it helps bring friends and families together.
Most countries have barbecue traditions and they usually take place on national holidays. In the United States, it is a tradition to have a barbecue of hamburgers and hot dogs on July 4, which is Independence Day.
In South America, especially in Argentina, barbecue is a way of life. All sorts of meats and sausages are put on a large grill (烤架) together over hot coals. Barbecue is even considered the national dish in Argentina.
When a person speaks about Turkish and Middle Eastern barbecue, the Kebab immediately comes to mind. The tradition of taking different meats, and sometimes vegetables as well, and spearing (月尖物刺穿) them with a sharp stick has crossed cultural lines today.
Wherever you go in the world, you are almost certain to come across a local method of preparing barbecue. If you visit different places, be bold and try whatever the local specialties (特色菜) are.
70. The passage is mostly taken from a magazine about ________.
A. Science B. Music C. Food D. Sports
71. It can be learned from the passage that ________.
A. barbecue is a healthy way of eating meat
B. local barbecue specialties are found all over the world
C. the tradition of having a barbecue will stop soon
D. barbecue is considered a way of life in the USA
72. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.

Once upon a time, there was a boy who was out playing on the beach with his friends. While they were playing, the boy found a stone which looked strange. It wasn’t the same as other stones. It was a little bit shining. But it was quite dirty. The boy took the stone home because he wanted to polish it.
His friends felt surprised and they asked, “Why are you polishing that ugly stone ”, but the boy didn’t reply. From then on, when they went out to play, the boy would take the stone with him. He would polish it whenever he had a rest.
This went on for some time. Then one day, the boy played with his friends as usual. He had a surprise for them. When he showed the stone to them, they were amazed. It was, in fact, not a common stone at all—it was a beautiful diamond (钻石). The boy had been polishing it until it was completely clean and bright.

School life is colorful, but not always easy.
I remember when I was in Grade 8, I was not good at Chinese. I felt very sad then. Luckily, whenever I was in trouble, my Chinese teacher Mr. Li always gave me a hand. In class he encouraged me to practice speaking in front of others. After class, he advised me to read more Chinese books. He was willing to communicate with me at any time. It worked! My Chinese improved little by little. Now Chinese is my favorite subject. More importantly, I have more confidence in myself.
I’m very thankful for what he did. I find that it is important to help others. It may change their life. So when there is someone that needs my help, I will be ready to lend a hand.
