Puppies For Sale
A shop owner placed a sign above his door that said: “Puppies For Sale.” Signs like this always have a way of attracting young children, and to no surprise, a boy saw the sign and approached the owner;
“How much are you going to sell the puppies for ” he asked. The store owner replied, “Anywhere from $30 to $50.” The little boy pulled out some change from his pocket. “I have $2.37,” he said. “Can I please look at them ”
The shop owner smiled and whistled. Out of the kennel came Lady, who ran down the aisle of his shop followed by five teeny, tiny balls of fur. One puppy was lagging considerably behind. Immediately the little boy singled out the lagging, limping puppy and said, “What’s wrong with that little dog ”
The shop owner explained that the veterinarian had examined the little puppy and had discovered it didn’t have a hip socket. It would always limp. It would always be lame. The little boy became excited. “That is the very puppy that I want to buy.”
The shop owner said, “No, you don’t want to buy that little dog. If you really want him, I’ll just give him to you.” The little boy got quite upset. He looked straight into the store owner’s eyes, pointing his finger, and said;“I don’t want you to give him to me. ”

Any day that I had to go to the airport was the worst day of my life, and as a traveling appliance salesman, I had to fly quite a bit. On this particular day in 2020, I was assigned to a middle seat. At that moment, I knew in my heart that I needed to change. I started looking for signs that might lead me toward a better life, and immediately a sign showed up. I turned on the TV and happened to catch an interview with a former world champion. He said he’d been under the care of a doctor who put him on a whole-food, plant-based diet. He lost weight without feeling hungry, and he was healthier and stronger than he’d been since his twenties. I never imagined my sign would come from him, but there he was.
I had no idea what a “whole-food, plant-based diet” was. I went online and searched for a doctor who could help me. That’s when I found Preeti, an experienced medical specialist. I felt hopeful when she agreed to see me the next day. The doctor recommended a low calorie diet and some physical exercises I could do in my home. She also suggested that to maintain discipline I should go to a shelter and adopt a dog. “Exercise ” I asked, “A dog ” I couldn’t believe what I heard. But, she said, “A dog is a good companion. Plus, you live in an apartment, which means the dog has to be walked. So if you walk your dog twice a day, that will be your exercise. I’m sure it can enhance the quality of your life and improve your health.”
