When a post-90s Chongqing girl Li Yang took her first dog “Seven” home on a summer day, she promised to give this sweet little friend a happy family. Little did she know that one day she would adopt (收养) more than 1,400 dogs and cats at the same time. These dogs and cats also changed her life, “Once you keep them, you cannot abandon (抛弃) them.”
Li Yang rented a house at 45,000 yuan a year in Nanshan Mountain and became a stay-at-home-mom three years ago. She has spent hundreds of thousands of yuan putting up a shed for the stray (流浪) dogs and cats with her husband. Unknowingly, the number of dogs adopted by her reached dozens, hundreds, and a thousand. Most of them were abandoned by their owners. “When they fell ill, they didn’t want to treat them and just tossed them to the side of the road,” said Li Yang.
Taking care of more than 1,400 dogs and cats is not an easy task. Every morning, the first thing to do when she gets up is to clean the cages to keep them as clean as possible. She cleans them thoroughly every three days, but they still give off a strong smell. Li Yang usually stays at the shed when not going out to rescue dogs. She said she had not bought new clothes for many years and always wears old clothes brought by the volunteers.
Fortunately, with more and more people like Li Yang in Chongqing, legal (合法的) stray dog rescues centers have been set up in recent years. The government is expected to improve the situation of stray dog rescues. Liang Shujie, 26, is a bird watcher from Beijing. “I fell in love with bird watching in college when my friend showed me the beautiful birds on campus,” Liang said. “I soon learned that you can see different types of birds in different seasons, and there are famous bird watching routes (路线)all over China.”

Another time in Singapore, she saw on a website that a special kind of bird was active nearby at that time, so she rushed to see. Many people there were taking photos of that bird.
