一、Pre-class

Teacher activity:
1.First, play a short video about time machine.
2.Let Ss read the excerpt of The Time Machine and ask some questions.
What does the Time Traveller think of the fourth dimension

Which historical figure would you like to meet What would you say to him/her
(1. The Time Traveller thinks that Time is the same as the other three dimensions. He said, "Length, Breadth and Thickness do not pass. We move about in them. We move in Time the same way that we move in the other three dimensions." He believes that because Time is like the other three dimensions, we can travel through Time.
2. If I had a time machine, I would like to go back to the Tang Dynasty. I have always been fascinated by Chang'an, so I wish I could travel to the ancient capital and see what life was like back then.
3. I would like to meet Li Bai or Du Fu. I love their poetry, so it would be really amazing to meet them. I would ask them many questions about their poems and why they wrote them. For example, "Mr Li Bai, why do you include the image of the moon in your poems so often Does the moon have special meaning to you " "Mr Du Fu, why do your poems show great concern for the country and common people ")

1405:He set sail from Taicang on his first voyage.
1433:He made a total of seven voyages.
Columbus:
1451: He was born in a port city of Italy
3 August, 1492: He departed from Spain
12 October, 1492: He reached the shores of the Caribbean.
1493-1504: He found more land over the course of his three subsequent voyages.

Teacher Activity: Let Ss think about these questions
(1) What factors made the voyages of Zheng He and Columbus so successful Use the information in the articles to support your opinion.
One of the factors that contributed to Zheng He's successful voyages was the advanced technology and shipbuilding skills used at that time, which ensured that the ships were strong enough to handle dangerous situations at sea. His navigation skills also helped make the journeys successful, including his skill at reading a compass, keeping logs and charting the coast. In addition, Zheng He took many gifts for the people he would meet on his voyages and he treated them in a friendly manner to share the Chinese culture with them while also learning about theirs.
Christopher Columbus became a successful explorer because he loved sailing and showed great interest in geography from a young age. As an adult, his passion for exploration grew stronger and he was fortunate to receive financial support from the King and Queen of Spain. Columbus was also brave and knowledgeable. He overcame many challenges during the dangerous parts of the voyages.
