There have been many great inventions that change the way we live and allow us to do things we have never dreamed of. The first great invention was the wheel. This invention made it easier to carry heavy things and to travel long distances. The four great inventions of ancient China greatly promoted（促进） the development of our economy, politics and culture at that time and fundamentally（根本地）advanced world civilization as well.

In the 19th century, many great inventions were made. Among them were the camera and the light bulb. There were more great inventions in the early 20th century, such as the plane, and the movie with sound（有声电影）. Nylon（尼龙） came out in the 1930s and changed the kind of clothes people wear.
Starting from the second half of the 20th century, man began looking for ways to go into space. Many countries, including the United States and China, have made their steps into space, too.
