Dear distinguished judges, It’s my great pleasure to be here to share some of my ideas of teaching design with you.As Ezra Pound said,great literature is simply language charged with meaning to the utmost possible degree.It shows the rich connotation of literature.Toady ,my topic is unit 4 Exploring literature(project)-Making a poster about a writer.My presentation consists of eight aspects, namely, the analysis of teaching material and learners, the statements of teaching objectives,methods and strategies,the description of teaching procedures, the exposition of
homework ,blackboard design and the reflection on the plan.
The analysis of teaching material
The analysis of overall instructional design
Based on the English New Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2017 edition 2020 revision),all the contents and activities are guided by the outlook of English learning activities,focusing on the achievement of Core Competencies of English Subject.The selected material is from Book 2,whose thematic context is about“Man and society”.This book consists of four units.Making a poster about a writer is the Project part of Unit 4.Exploring literature.Under the guidance of the unit big
idea,different periods will be divided into 5 parts.The whole unit
is designed as“a journey to explore literature”.Students will be invited to enjoy the journey from the beginning of encountering literature.In the reading and grammar parts,students will make an acquaintance of literature to have a better understanding of the literature qualities and benefits.Then,they will promote literature through recommending books to the school library.When they meet the excerpt of The Old Man and the Sea,they began to appreciate literature.Finally,they will internalize the learned knowledge in the former lessons and
present literature through making a poster about a writer .
The analysis of this period
What :A sample poster of Pearl. S . Buck and basic elements of a poster will be presented to invite students to make posters by
themselves and present them to the class.
Why:Students in this class will apply the knowledge learned and discussed to the making and sharing process through cooperation .Meanwhile,they can develop their speaking and
thinking abilities through various activities.
How:Through learning and exploration , making and sharing ,appreciating and evaluation processes,students will begin with literal comprehension ,then proceed to the inferential
comprehension and to the final critical comprehension.
The analysis of learners
This lesson is designed for senior one students.They are curious and passionate about this topic. Besides,they have a certain knowledge foundation of some writers .However,they are not clear that how to polish up posters and it’s not easy for them to know how to present them by using accurate language. During this class,they will be encouraged to learn the process of making posters , the way to polish up the poster, and how to share their poster in an appropriate way.How to evaluate
others’ posters will also be included in this class.
The statements of teaching objectives
Based on the analysis of teaching material and learners,the
teaching objectives are set as follows:
By the end of the class,students will be able to
1.(Gift of tongues)
①Learn what makes a good poster
②learn to sort the materials needed for making a poster
③Learn to share the posters with the others.
2.(Learning ability)
To apply the knowledge learned and discussed to the final
assignment
3.(Trait of thinking)
Develop critical thinking ability by evaluating other's
posters
4.(Cultural awareness)
Enjoy and promote literature through making and
presenting the poster of the writers .
The statements of teaching methods and learning strategies
To achieve those objectives, teaching methods like
Communicative Language Teaching(CLT),Question-guided
Teaching, Situational Teaching, Discussing and Practice Methods
will be adopted.
During the process of learning,several of learning strategies ,such as,Cognitive strategy, meta-cognitive strategy and
communicative strategy will also get strengthened.
The description of teaching procedures
Next,I’d like to introduce my teaching procedures.As you can
see,students will get involved in 6 activities in this class.Based on
the outlook of English learning activities, learning and
understanding activities ,applying and practicing activities ,and
transferring and creating activities are all designed.
At the beginning of this class,students will be invited to participate in the guessing game.After guessing the writers’
names,they are encouraged to answer the following two
questions:1.What do they have in common 2.If we want to make a poster of them ,what should we do This activity can arouse students' interest in today’s topic and it can stimulate students’
curiosity to explore the theme of this lesson.
Then,students will be guided to discuss the following questions in groups.1.What kinds of information are provided 2. How is the information displayed 3. How many layers are there 4. What do you think of the overall design 5.What does the poster consist of students can summarize the basic elements of a poster by learning the sample of Pearl S. Buck. Thus, students can have a general impression on posters through exploring .After that,students will learn some expressions that need attention ,which can pave the way for the making and sharing
processes.
Previously, they have been told to prepare some necessary materials for today’ class.So,they make full preparations for the next activity.Eight members form a group.They will make tasks division.Two students design the poster.Two students sort the information.Two students draw and write.The last two students present the poster.Next,group members have a discussion on the layout of the poster and cooperate to make the first draft by group
work. After finishing this step,group members will be given another
5 minutes to proofread the poster and make suggestions. Group members make some changes to the poster and finalize it.The purpose of my design is to improve their practical and creative abilities through the process of their designing and to help students
learn to cooperate with each other by group work.
After that,it will come to the sharing part.Two members of each group come to the front. One shows the poster around the class and the other introduces the poster from the following aspects:1.The role each member plays. 2. The reason why you choose this writer. 3. A brief account of the writer’s life, popular works, achievements and famous sayings.After presentations,each group puts up the poster on the walls.This activity is to develop students’ ability to integrate learned language knowledge and help
them express creatively.
The English New Curriculum Standard put emphasis on the students characters in evaluation system.So ,the following evaluation activity will be designed.They will be given the rubrics for each group .Then ,they will evaluate other groups’ posters based on the following standards:1. Content (appealing, concise) 2. Layout (well-organized) 3. Pictures (clear, proper) 4. Language (accurate)In addition ,they will also evaluate other groups’
presentations based on the following standards:1. Language eye
contact2.Proper speed and pause ,facial expressions.Each standard has certain points.At the same time,I will give a brief summary of their presentations.The group who get the highest scores will be the winner of today’s class!The purpose of my design is to develop students’ critical thinking ability by evaluating
other's posters .
At the end of the class,I will play a short video for students,inviting them to think about what we can learn from Lu Xun’s words. Students will be inspired to learn from the spirit conveyed by famous writers through the video appreciation. They will also learn to promote literature by various ways .Meanwhile,it’s can put emphasis on the theme of this unit—the power of literature
again.
The exposition of homework
After class,students will be required to continue to polish up the posters based on other groups’comments ,and they will enjoy the posters of the other groups and get to know more about famous figures in literature.The design purpose is to apply what we have learned in this class and they can surf the internet to know more information about writers to have a wider range of
knowledge.

The reflection on the plan
Based on the guidance of the English New Curriculum Standard and the Core Competencies of the English subject,this period of class provides students with various activities to make a poster.Students are willing to participate in all of the teaching process.At the same time ,they learn to cooperate with each other and they are confident to speak in front of others. Finally ,they made a poster by themselves successfully ,which is meaningful for this class.Therefore,the teaching aims can be able to be achieved . However,there is still a need for more practice time in the class to make better presentations.What’s more, the structure of their posters meets the requirements ,but the details need to be polished up.So,it relies on the students to spend more time after
class to improve and present them to the following class.
