It’s Saturday. Jenny, Danny and Brian don’t have classes today. They go to the zoo.
At a quarter to eleven, Brian, Jenny and Danny arrive at the zoo. They go through the entrance and see a sign.

Danny: (He points to the sign.)Why can’t we take photos
Brian: Maybe cameras scare the animals. When animals are scared, they can be dangerous.
Jenny: Look! There’s a bear. And he’s sleeping.
Danny: It’s nearly noon. He’s very lazy! Wake up, Mr. Bear! I have some donuts for you!

Jenny: Danny, stop! You can’t feed donuts to a bear!
Brian: Remember the sign We can’t feed the animals.
Danny: Oh, that’s right! Sorry, I forgot. Let’s see the pandas. They’re so cute.
Jenny: We don’t have any pandas at the Edmonton Zoo, Danny.

Jenny: Pandas live mainly in China. They eat bamboo. We don’t have any bamboo here in Edmonton.
Danny: I see. But we have lots of grass here. Look at those giraffes. They like eating grass. Maybe the pandas could eat some grass instead of bamboo.

Jenny: And maybe you could eat some carrots instead of all those donuts.
Danny: You’re funny, Jenny. I’m a dinosaur, not a rabbit.

2. feed /fi d/ v. 喂养
feed ... to ... 意为“给……喂……”，feed后接表示食物或饲料的名词，to为介词，其后一般接“喂养”的对象。
feed on 意为“以……为食”。
e.g. Jim often feed grass to the sheep.
吉姆经常给羊喂草。
The baby feeds on milk.

3. He points to the sign.
point to 指向，表示手或指针朝向某处或某个方向。
e.g. He pointed to the math problem and asked his dad for help.

辨析：point to与point at
point to 多用来表示指向离说话人较远的事物，侧重指的方向。 He pointed to the house across the river and laughed.
他指着河对岸的房子笑了。
point at 常用来表示指向离说话人较近的事物，侧重指的对象。 Please don’t point at me when you speak.

4. When animals are scared, they can be dangerous.
scared adj. 惊吓的
辨析：scared与scary
scared “惊吓的；吓坏了的”，常作表语，说明主语受到了惊吓。
scary “吓人的”，可作表语或定语，常说明某物具有吓人的特征。
I felt scared because it’s too dark outside!
因为外面太黑了，我感到害怕！
The traffic accident is really scary!
这个交通事故真恐怖！
5. Wake up, Mr. Bear!
wake up 醒来，接代词时，代词必须放在中间。
e.g. Wake up, honey. It’s time to have breakfast.
醒一醒，亲爱的。该吃早餐了。
Please wake me up at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow.
请在明天早上6:30叫醒我。
6. Maybe the pandas could eat some grass instead of bamboo.
instead 当instead单独使用时，作副词用，意为“代替，相反，而是”,通常位于句末或句首；当它位于句首时,要用逗号与后面隔开。
instead of 意为“用…来替换，是…而不是…”后常接名词、代词和动名词形式。
辨析：instead和instead of
e.g. Jane will go to Europe instead.
而是简要去欧洲。
Bob will read at home instead of playing football.
鲍勃不去踢足球而是在家读书。
7. Zoos help stop animals from going extinct.
stop...from doing sth. 阻止……做某事
“阻止……做某事”还可用keep...from doing sth. 和 prevent...(from) doing sth. 表示。
e.g. Nothing can stop him playing basketball with his friends.
