Text
When Ms. Liu read this story, she smiled. She had an idea. She would help her students open this kind of shop at her school. Students could take things from the shop and leave money in a box. The shop would raise money for school activities.
Text
It was a great idea! Ms. Liu believed that most people want to be honest. This shop would be a good way for students to learn the value of honesty. The perfect motto for this shop would be, “Take what you need. Give what you can. We trust you!”
1. No one was around.
no one 没有人
e.g. No one is in the classroom because the students all go to the playground.
Language Points
2. Please take eggs from the baskets and leave your money in the box.
leave v.
e.g. When he got home, he found that he had left his English book at school.
e.g.
Don’t leave your baby alone at home.
Jim’s mom forgot to buy vegetables on the way home.
3. We appreciate your honesty!
appreciate v.
e.g.
He appreciated his friend’s notebook.
We appreciate getting so many gifts from my friends.
要表示程度,可用deeply, highly, (very)much 等修饰。
e.g. I appreciate your kindness.
He highly appreciated their help.
4. We were surprised to find that the farmer was so trusting.
be surprised to...
be surprised at(doing) sth.
to one’s surprise
e.g. Jim is surprised to see his mom at school.
I’m surprised at what you did.
To her mom’s surprise, Betty made lunch for her parents.
5. On our way home, I wondered if everyone would be honest.
honest adj.
dishonest adj.
honesty n. 诚实
honestly adv.
e.g. His friend is an honest boy.
6. This shop would be a good way for students to learn the value of honesty.
value n.&v.
valuable adj.
valueless adj.
e.g. This book is of great value to me in my studies.
= This book is very valuable to me in my studies.
be of value =be valuable
be of no value =be not valuable
e.g. The school uniform is of value to the students.=The school uniform is valuable to the students.
7. We trust you!
trust v.
trust sb.
believe sb.
