Not knowing what to do, he walked out of the classroom and sat on a bench(长凳) in front of the canteen. He saw a few of his classmates there, among them was Fahad. He was one of the richest kids in his class, but he was a very arrogant(傲慢的) boy who thought everyone else was a loser. But as Asad was new, he didn’t know much about Fahad.
When he went towards Fahad and asked if he could borrow some money for his lunch, Fahad laughed a lot and said, “I knew you were a loser, maybe a beggar ” Fahad laughed out so loud that other kids also heard it and made fun of the situation. He didn’t answer Fahad, and slowly walked back towards an empty bench.
Honesty Won’t Let You Down
Asad was a 13-year-old boy who was very honest and hardworking. Recently, he had entered a new school, so he had no friends yet. On Monday morning, he was nearly late for school. The night before, his family attended his cousin’s wedding and reached home late, which was why he couldn’t get up on time as usual.
At school, Asad could not pay attention to anything and wanted the bell to ring so that he could buy something to eat. After a few hours, when the bell rang, Asad quickly opened his schoolbag to find his money, but just then he remembered that he had left for school in a hurry in the morning and forgotten to take money. He looked under his books, hoping to find some money but there was nothing.
Honesty Won’t Let You Down
When he reached the bench, he noticed something lying near it. It was a wallet. He picked it up and recognized it as Fahad’s, as he remembered Fahad showing it to his friends and telling them that his uncle had bought it for him from the UK. There was quite a lot of money inside for a kid.

“Today’s test score will decide who has topped the class, so be ready,” Miss Natasha announced to the class.
Miss Natasha collected everyone’s test papers, and then cleared her throat to announce the results as she distributed the test papers among the students. Everyone was nervous about what their scores might be.
Ali and Bob had been competitors since class one and each year it was always one of the two that came first in the class. This year, there was tough competition between them both, and they eagerly awaited the results.
“Peter, 18,” announced Miss Natasha as she handed him his paper, “Eric, 16, Ali, 20, Bob, 19 ... and lastly Alia, 15.”
Once Miss Natasha had distributed all of the test papers in class, everyone soon realized that Ali had beaten Bob by one mark and topped the class. Everyone congratulated him and Ali was happy.
The Right Thing to Do
As Ali was about to put his paper in his bag, he noticed that by mistake Miss Natasha had given him two marks for an incorrect answer. He was shocked. He rechecked his answers and realized that all his answers were correct except for that one. However, if he informed Miss Natasha about it, he would not only lose two marks but also his first position.
After considering the situation, he decided to keep quiet and went home. However, he kept thinking about it all evening. Should he or shouldn’t he tell Miss Natasha about it He thought that it had been already done, and no one would notice if he didn’t tell anyone, but then another thought crossed his mind. If he didn’t tell the teacher about it and stayed top of the class, he would have taken a title that should have belonged to Bob.
This situation put Ali in a hard position. His parents always taught him to do the right thing, but doing the right thing here meant he would no longer be top of the class. He remembered how everyone cheered for him and congratulated him in class.

How did Ali feel that night
However,in Ali’s mind,he knew that he actually didn’t beat Bob.The congratulations and cheers from his teacher and classmates didn’t belong to him. Feeling that he didn’t deserve the position,Ali had a sleepless night for the first time in his life.
What would Ali do
When the sun was rising,Ali’s mother came to wake him up.Ali pretended to just get up.But his mother still found his bad condition. When they had the breakfast,Ali’s mother carefully asked:“What happened honey! Why you looked so tired ”
What would Ali say to his mother
“Mom, what if doing the right thing would mean you would lose something Then should I choose to do the right thing ” he asked in an uncertain voice. “Son, if it is the right thing to do, then I am sure you will be rewarded for it. Don’t worry too much.Just do the good thing, not look forward to the future.”
Did Ali make his decision what was his decision
After hearing his mother’s words ,Ali made up his mind to tell Miss Natasha the truth, even if he would lose the first position.
What would Ali’s mother do to encourage Ali
Ali’s mother knew that his son had understood what she said. She gently patted his shoulder and gave him an chocolate bar.
Where did Ali go when he got the school
Ali was comforted by her mother’s words. He said goodbye to his mother and went to the school. As soon as he arrived at school,he went straight to Miss Natasha’s office to tell the truth and apologised for not telling her yesterday.
How did Ali feel at that moment How did Miss Natasha react
Ali felt shamed for his behavior and a sense of guilt rose inside her .Surprisingly,Miss Natasha didn’t blame him ,gently touched his head and said with smile:“Ali,it’s my mistake, not yours.I’m so pleasant and proud that you are such a brave and honest boy.”
What would students behave
In the class,Miss Natasha announceed that she mistakenly gave Ali two marks, which means that the first position goes to Bob.She also praised Ali :“ Ali was so brave and honest .Not everyone had the courage to do it.Let’s clap for him.”
结局(The end ):
All the students clapped for Ali’s honesty. At this moment,Ali was so joyful because he knew that he made the right decision.

读后续写------练习
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In May of 2022, my parents and I were in Goa on holiday. The sun shone brightly overhead, and the streets were crowded with tourists and locals. At around one in the afternoon, we stopped at a restaurant for lunch. It was almost full except for an empty table in the back corner.
A young boy, around 11 or 12 years old, came up to take our order. I asked him his name and, in a soft voice, he replied, "Badri”, I thought sadly about how this sweet little kid had to take on responsibilities when he should be out climbing trees and playing with other kids on the weekend.
We were served our food shortly. As we were eating, a large man with a long beard (胡子) entered the restaurant. He was a little drunk, almost unsteady on his feet and talking dirty. Badri went up to do his job--slowly, unsure of himself. The man pulled the boy towards him rudely and ordered his food in loud, incomprehensible (难以理解的) words. Hesitant, Badri took the order and walked quickly into the kitchen. It was obvious that the little boy was full of fear.
A few minutes later, the man began to get impatient and complained strongly. Badri came out of the kitchen hurriedly, carrying plates, and started serving the man. But in his nervous rush, he accidentally knocked over a glass of water, which crashed to the floor, spilling onto the angry customer. At that moment, the calm afternoon was completely changed.
The man jumped up from his seat and raised his hand. The frightened Badri burst into tears before him. The noise of the restaurant faded into the background as everyone turned their attention to the scene. Time seemed to stand still(静止) as the atmosphere shifted from enjoyment to upset. I was filled with anger at the man's bad behavior and a wave of sympathy (同情) for Badri, who was caught in this unsettling situation.

Although I was frightened and nervous,I still rush to the boy and protected him from the drunk man’s attack. With my heart beating and palms sweating,I said firmly:“Sir,please calm down.It was an accident that he spilled the water onto you.He doesn’t mean it. Please forgive him for his young age.”Badri also apologised:“ I’m so sorry, sir. It’s all my mistake. Please forgive me.” With everyone’s attention ,the man finally realized what he did ,asked the boy to go away in an angry voice and then went back to eat his lunch.(Noticing everyone was watching him,the man put down his hands and returned to the seat to eat lunch.)

From this experience ,I learned that no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.(任何善举,无论多么微不足道,都不会被浪费)
