I have just moved to a house in Bridge Street. Yesterday a beggar knocked at my door. He asked me for a meal and a glass of beer. In return for this, the beggar stood on his head and sang songs. I gave him a meal. He ate the food and drank the beer. Then he put a piece of cheese in his pocket and went away. Later a neighbour told me about him. Everybody knows him. His name is Percy Buttons. He calls at every house in the street once a month and always asks for a meal and a glass of beer.

本句中move表示搬家；move还可以表示移动，搬动。如：
Don't move the things on my table.

2. Yesterday, a beggar knocked at my door. 昨天一个乞丐来敲我的门。
knock at sth. 表示敲击某个东西；和knock相关的词组还有：
knock off表示下班。如：
It's time for us to knock off.
是咱们下班的时间了。
knock out可以表示打晕；也可以表示击败。如：
Somebody knocked me out with his elbow.
有人用胳膊肘将我打晕了。
France knocked Belgium out.
法国队将比利时队淘汰了。
knock over表示打翻，撞倒。如：
Be careful. Don't knock over the flower vase.
小心点，别把花瓶打翻了。
3. He asked me for a meal and a glass of beer. 他问我要一顿饭和一杯啤酒。
ask sb. for sth. 向某人索要某物。如：
Why didn't you ask me for help

4. In return for this, the beggar stood on his head and sang songs. 作为回报，那个乞丐头顶地倒立起来。

stand on one's head. 倒立。stand on one's knees. 跪下。如：

everybody是不定代词。常见的不定代词还有，somebody, something, anybody, anything, nobody, nothing等；不定代词作主语时，谓语动词常用单数形式。如：
