Kimchi, which tastes similar to the Chinese Pao Cai, is not only a main dish eaten at nearly every meal by Koreans, but also an important ingredient(配料)in many other Korean foods.
While the most popular variety is the spicy kimchi made of cabbage, there are more than 100 different types of kimchi made of various vegetables, like radish(小萝卜), onion or carrot. Thanks to its unique fermentation(发酵)process, kimchi is selected by the American magazine Health as one of the top five healthiest foods in the world and helps prevent the growth of cancer.
Cabbage Kimchi
Enjoyed by most Koreans, Cabbage Kimchi is made with a whole, uncut salted cabbage mixed with Korean chili powder, garlic, fish sauce(酱)and other spices.
Radish Kimchi
The basic ingredients used for creating this kimchi are the same to those used to make Cabbage Kimchi, except that the cabbage is replaced with radish. The distinct characteristics of this kimchi are that it is pleasantly hard and that it makes a noise when you chew it.
Water Kimchi
This is a less spicy kind of kimchi that uses both cabbage and radish. Using a great deal of kimchi water, it tastes sweeter than other types of kimchi due to the addition of sliced fruits such as apple and pear.
Young Radish Kimchi
Young Radish Kimchi is prepared and eaten in summer when cabbages are not yet ready for harvest. This kimchi is made using young summer radishes, mixed with Korean chili powder and green onions, giving it a unique smell and taste.
21.Which kimchi tastes sweet and less spicy
A.Water Kimchi. B.Cabbage Kimchi.
C.Radish Kimchi. D.Young Radish Kimchi.
22.When is Young Radish Kimchi prepared

Two weeks ago, I had an amazing trip to my friend's house in Serawai. Serawai is the name of a sub-district in Sintang Regency, Indonesia.
At that time, I was warmly welcomed by peaceful green yard. My trip was full of unforgettable moments: great people, delicious food, new cultures. However, what left a remarkable impression on me was meeting up with my friend's dad, Fx. Ngawan. He is now working as an education supervisor in Sintang Regency.
At our first encounter, he looks like a typical Dayaknese man with dark skin. As he mentioned that he used to be an English teacher, we discovered we were a match! I am an English teacher myself. More importantly, he is a language enthusiast and a hyperpolyglot(超级多语者). During the talk, we often switched from one language to the other such as Indonesian, English, Javanese to Ahe. He is now fluent in at least 15 languages and most of them are local languages.
When he was assigned to be a teacher and education supervisor, he had to go all the way rom Serawai sub-district to Sintang Regency by motorcycle, riding about 170 km by motorcycle. The trip can take six hours if the day is bright and sunny. However, it is not uncommon for him to spend three to seven days for the journey if the raining season comes. Therefore, he has to stop at some villages if he can't continue the trip and meet up with people with so many different languages along the way. So, whenever he stops in a particular village, he learns a different language. For him, learning languages helps him to connect with people.
In our last talk, he highlighted(强调) the importance of learning languages. He hopes hat the younger generation in Indonesia start realizing that language is the gate to open up so many opportunities. Local languages are facing disappearance because more people are leaving it behind. When people stop speaking the languages, the knowledge and culture from that language will also disappear.
24.What do the author and Ngawan have in common
A.Being Typical Dayaknese people. B.Being a hyperpolyglot.
C.Being English teachers. D.Mastering several languages.
25.How was Ngawan's motorcycle trip
A.Difficult. B.Instructive.
C.Exciting. D.Interesting.
26.What benefit did Ngawan get in his long trip
A.He got enough rest. B.He learned some languages.
C.He did much exercise. D.He made many friends.
27.What can we infer from the last paragraph
A.Learning languages isn't an easy job.
B.Young people don't grasp opportunities.
C.Local languages are being more important.
D.Languages and culture are closely related.

Every few years, snowshoe hare (白靴兔) numbers in the Canadian Yukon climb to a peak. As hare populations increase, so do those of their predators (捕食者): lynx and coyotes. Then hare populations fall and their predators start to die off. The cycle is a famous phenomenon among ecologists and has been studied since the 1920s.
In recent years, though, researchers have found hare numbers fall from their peak not just because predators eat too many of them. Long-lasting stress from living surrounded by killers causes mother hares to eat less food and bear fewer babies. The trauma (创伤) of living through such threats causes lasting changes in brain chemistry, keeping the hares from reproducing at normal levels.
And it’s not just snowshoe hares, as behavioral ecologists Liana Zanette and Michael Clinchy, who study what they call the ecology of fear, have shown. They’ve found that fear of predators can cause other wild mammals (哺乳动物) and songbirds to bear and raise fewer young. The offspring of frightened voles and song sparrows are less likely to succeed in reproducing. These findings add to a growing body of evidence showing that fearful experiences can have long-lasting effects on wildlife and suggesting that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is not only unique to humans, but shared among other creatures.
Rudy Boonstra, a population ecologist at the University of Toronto, sees the response of snowshoe hares as an adaptation that allows the animals to make the best of a bad situation. Animals stressed by many predators spend more time hiding and less time feeding, so they produce fewer young—but that may allow more adult hares to survive to rebuild the population when the cycle starts again.
Despite the evidence that a wide range of animals experience the long-term impacts of extreme stress, some psychologists still hold their human-centric (以人为本的) view of PTSD.“It is defined in terms of human responses,” says neurobiologist David Diamond. “There is no biological measure—you can’t get a blood test that says someone has PTSD.This is a psychological disease, and that’s why I call it a human disorder. Because a rat can’t tell you how it feels.”
28.What did researchers find about snowshoe hares lately
A.Their predators are in danger of dying out.
B.Their numbers decline partly because of stress.
C.Their safety is threatened by lynx and coyotes.
D.Their populations rise and fall every few years.
29.Which of the following would Zanette and Clinchy agree with
A.PTSD exists among wild animals.
B.It is hard for animals to remember trauma.
C.Snowshoe hares suffer more than other mammals.
D.Birds attract fewer predators than land animals do.
30.What does Diamond express in the last paragraph
A.PTSD is a uniquely human problem.
B.Blood tests help identify animals’ PTSD.
C.PTSD is a normal adaptive response.
D.More animals are suffering from PTSD.
31.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A.To give a brief introduction to PTSD.
B.To talk about how to get over trauma.
C.To discuss how fear might hurt animals.
D.To call for the protection of snowshoe hares.

The next big stage, the improvement from automatic to truly autonomous trains, is already here. It will take train autonomy to the next level, beyond the automated performance on closed loops (圈;环) such as automatic rail lines today and onto the vast expanse of international railways.
That will mean that the next generation of trains will be able to locate themselves in their environment and interact with other train traffic without human assistance. They will have the ability to detect and manage on their own all elements of their environment, designed by a connected traffic management system.
The transition toward train autonomy is speeding, says Kai Taylor, Thales Marketing & Communications Director Main Line Rail Signalling, and for a reason that can be summed up in one word: digitalisation.
“The key to success,” says Kai Taylor, “is in fact what is in ‘the Thales DNA’ — the digital technologies across Thales business units-aerospace, space, transportation, defence and security.”
“These technologies represent the pieces of the puzzle to achieve real train autonomy. They are artificial intelligence, big data, connectivity, including the internet of things linking trains to intelligent railway switches, and with netsecurity built in. We have sensors for obstacle (障碍) detection from Thales defence, safe and precise satellite positioning from our space and avionics (航空电子设备) division, IoT connectivity from our recent purchase Gemalto, cybersecurity from the Thales security sector and the trusted explainable and approvable artificial intelligence led by Thales for safe decisions. Taken together, they will provide the train with true autonomy for safe and efficient operations.”
Of course, all these technologies are at the base of the Thales ground and air transportation sector’s current offerings for efficient, safe and reliable travel in the air or on the ground.
Kai Taylor explains, “We’re unique in having the experience and the expertise in all aspects of mobility, including Thales global leadership in air and train management systems which are assuring rail and air travel for airlines and rail operators all over the world.”
32.What will truly autonomous trains do
A.Carry out the automated performance on closed loops.
B.Communicate with other trains with the help of humans.
C.Examine and deal with the situations of the surroundings.
D.Travel automatically with great speeds using solar powers.
33.What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Their environment. B.The transition’ speeding.
C.Human assistance. D.The ability to locate themselves.
34.What does paragraph 5 mainly tell us
A.How digitalisation works in real train autonomy.
B.What sensors on the autonomous trains deal with
C.What will provide the train with safety and efficiency.
D.How obstacles are removed from the paths of trains.
35.What’s Kai Taylor’s attitude towards the future of autonomous trains
A.Cautious. B.Concerned.
C.Critical. D.Confident.

“If you buy things you do not need, soon you will have to sell things you need.” This is a piece of wise advice from Warren Buffet, arguably one of the greatest financial minds of the 21th century. 36 This is true especially in the present economic climate.
While the idea of being frugal(节俭的) has long been a part of Eastern culture, the relatively recent growth of wealth in China as well as the ease of purchasing has led to increased consumerism for many across the country. Yet this increased consumption of goods has been pushing up the prices of certain bare essentials such as housing, transportation and food, which is forcing people to reevaluate their priorities while spending money. 37
The internet is flooded with advice on where one can save money as well as good opinions about how they should spend their money. For example, clothes can be bought second-hand, but you should never skip a visit to the dentist. 38 In the meanwhile, you should limit those that are fancy but not entirely necessary. Of course, it is still fine to occasionally spend money on a nice vacation, but buying thirty pairs of shoes you will only wear a few times is neither responsible nor sustainable.
Hopefully, we all fully understand at this point that the resources on the earth are indeed limited. 39 As a result, the choice (forced or not) to be frugal is not only good for one’s wallet, but also beneficial to the planet in the long run. Have you ever chosen to starve yourself to get a pair of limited-edition sneakers 40
A.A continuous growth model on this planet is by no means sustainable.
B.These words have always not been taken seriously by young people.
C.They are meant to encourage people to buy more stuff than they need.
D.It makes sense to prioritize goods and services that directly affect your health.
E.It is no wonder then that being frugal is once again becoming a dominant trend.
F.Many young people today appear to be taking these words very much to heart.
G.If so, it is high time you started making changes for yourself and for all humanity.

A recent study showed that two 47 five adults now consider the environmental safety of a product before they buy it. This means that companies must now change the 48 they make and sell their products to make sure that they are “green,” that is, friendly to the environment.

My mother’s gift
A dandelion (蒲公英) in my dictionary always reminds me of my lunchtimes with my mother.
When I was in the third grade, I was picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had painstakingly (费力地) practised my lines with me. But no matter how easily I delivered them at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator’s part to the play, and asked me to switch roles.
I didn’t tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my unease, and instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose leaves were turning green. We could see yellow dandelions popping through the grass in bunches, as if a painter had touched our landscape with a little bit of gold.
I watched my mother casually bend down by one of the dandelions. “I think I’m going to dig up all these weeds,” she said, suddenly pulling a flower up by its roots. “From now on, we’ll have only roses in this garden.”
“But I like dandelions,” I protested. “All flowers are beautiful — even dandelions.” My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn’t it ” she asked thoughtfully. I nodded, pleased that I had won her over. “And that is true of people too,” she added. “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that.”
Relieved that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened.
“But you will be a beautiful narrator,” she said, reminding me of how much I loved to read stories aloud to her. “The narrator’s part is as important as the part of a princess.”
Over the next few weeks, with her constant encouragement, I learned to take pride in the role. Lunchtimes were spent reading over my lines and talking about what I would wear.

文章第四段提到“he had to go all the way rom Serawai sub-district to Sintang Regency by motorcycle, riding about 170 km by motorcycle. The trip can take six hours if the day is bright and sunny. However, it is not uncommon for him to spend three to seven days for the journey if the raining season comes.(从Serawai街道到Sintang Regency,他不得不骑摩托车,要骑大约170公里。如果天气晴朗的话,这趟旅程需要6个小时。然而,如果雨季来临,他通常要花上三到七天的时间)”可知,泥泞的道路是他不得不走这么长时间的原因,由此推知他的行程是艰难的。故选A。
文章第四段最后几句提到“Therefore, he has to stop at some villages if he can't continue the trip and meet up with people with so many different languages along the way. So, whenever he stops in a particular village, he learns a different language. For him, learning languages helps him to connect with people.(因此,如果他不能继续旅行,他就不得不在一些村庄停下来,沿途遇到拥有多种不同语言的人。所以,每当他停留在一个特定的村庄,他学会了一种不同的语言。对他来说,学习语言帮助他与人们建立联系)”可知,Ngawan在长途旅行中学会了一些语言。故选B。
27.推理判断题。文章最后一句“When people stop speaking the languages, the knowledge and culture from that language will also disappear.(当人们不再说这种语言时,这种语言的知识和文化也将消失)”由此可知语言和文化是密切相关的。故选D。

根据第三段首句“And it’s not just snowshoe hares, as behavioral ecologists Liana Zanette and Michael Clinchy, who study what they call the ecology of fear, have shown. (行为生态学家Liana Zanette和Michael Clinchy研究了他们所谓的恐惧生态学已经表明,不仅仅是白靴兔)”以及末句“These findings add to a growing body of evidence showing that fearful experiences can have long-lasting effects on wildlife and suggesting that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is not only unique to humans, but shared among other creatures. (这些发现增加了越来越多的证据,表明恐惧经历会对野生动物产生长期影响,并表明创伤后应激障碍(PTSD)不仅是人类独有的,而且是其他生物共有的)”可知,Zanette和Clinchy都认为创伤后应激障碍在野生动物中也很常见。故选A。
根据最后一段前两句“Despite the evidence that a wide range of animals experience the long-term impacts of extreme stress, some psychologists still hold their human-centric (以人为本的) view of PTSD. “It is defined in terms of human responses,” says neurobiologist David Diamond. (尽管有证据表明,许多动物都经历过极端压力的长期影响,但一些心理学家仍然坚持以人为中心的PTSD观点。“这是根据人类的反应来定义的,”神经生物学家David Diamond说。)”可知,Diamond认为创伤后应激障碍是人类特有的问题,而动物并不会出现这样的问题。故选A。
通读全文,尤其是第三段末句“These findings add to a growing body of evidence showing that fearful experiences can have long-lasting effects on wildlife and suggesting that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is not only unique to humans, but shared among other creatures.

67.范文
Backstage on the night of the performance, I felt nervous. At first I was at a loss what to do, but it was at that very moment that I found a dandelion in my pocket. I knew my mom passed the flower to me, which meant to be in company with me. I calmed down as soon as possible. I knew that the narrator part was of vital significance. I performed so well that the audience stood up and burst into thunderous applause.
After the play, I took home the flower I had placed in the pocket. Mom carefully gazed at the dandelion, gently pressed it into the dictionary and grinned happily as she did. “We were perhaps the only people who would press such a sorry-looking weed.” Though decades have passed, I constantly recall our precious lunchtimes being together, grateful, because smiles on Mother’s face and her kind act foster a man like me now! And all those inspiring words like “Cease to struggle and you cease to live.” have been echoing in my mind as fresh as a daisy.
