Some people say global English is no longer just controlled by British or American English, but is running free and developing uniquely local forms. Can you figure out the following terms
“I like your smile, but unlike you put your shoes on my face.” This is a way of saying “Keep off the grass.” Or “people mountain, people sea”, which means “very crowded”.
These examples are what we call Chinglish. When it comes to Chinglish, if all you know is “good good study, day day up”, you will be considered “out man”.
Nowadays, more Chinglish words have been created, for example, a Chinese idiom is translated as “smilence”, a combination by the English word “smile” and “silence”.
Chinglish usually offers a humorous look at misuses of the English language in Chinese street signs, products, and advertising. They are favored by some English-speaking tourists and visitors. Dominic Swire has been living in Beijing for a couple of years. “I think many Chinese people complain about the Chinglish and badly translated English. But you know, sometimes for us foreigners, it’s actually quite charming to see them. I think if the translations of English in China were all perfect, then something would be lost from Chinese culture.”
However, Chinglish will probably become a “cultural relic” in the near future. Beijing has made a comprehensive plan to improve foreign language services and correct Chinglish within five years. “It is very ridiculous to see Chinglish on the signs in some scenic spots. And they are a kind of barrier for communication between Chinese and people from other countries,” a Beijinger said.
Some Chinese university experts side with Chinglish. They argue that English has absorbed elements from other languages such as French and Spanish in its growth, and now it’s Chinese’s turn.
24.Which of the following statements explains what Chinglish is
A.English words which get new Chinese meanings.
B.The Chinese words which are difficult to translate.
C.The words combining English vocabulary and Chinese grammar.
D.The local words preventing foreigners from learning Chinese well.
25.Who will be called “out man” according to the passage
A.A person who knows little about Chinglish word.
B.A student who hates learning foreign languages.
C.A tourist who fails to understand local translations.
D.An expert who doesn’t support Chinglish at all.
26.Which statement about Chinglish will Swire probably agree with
A.It can show the humour of Chinese. B.It helps him to learn Chinese well.
C.It will attract more foreign tourists. D. It seems part of Chinese culture.
27.Why Chinglish is likely to become a “cultural relic” in Beijing
A.Because it has become a unique bridge between Chinese and English.
B.Because Chinglish is a chance to enrich Chinese and English.
C.Because it improves the understanding between Chinese and foreigners.
D.Because Beijing is determined to get rid of Chinglish signs.
C
For teenagers, is a sense of comfort more commonly found in sports or arts And how might this relate to their reported depressive symptoms A new research published by the American Psychological Association suggests that teenagers participating in after-school art activities like music, drama, and painting are more likely to report depressive symptoms than their non-participating peers.
“This is not to say that depression is a necessary condition for either a teen or an adult to become an artist, nor are we showing that participating in the arts leads to mental illness,” said lead author Laura N. Young. MA.of Boston College. “However, previous research has revealed higher rates of mental illness symptoms in adult artists. We were interested in whether this association is present earlier in development.”
Interestingly, teens who engaged exclusively in sports and didn’t involve themselves in any other extracurricular activities were reported the least depressive symptoms. The researchers found no significant difference in depressive symptoms between teens involved in the arts who also did sports and those who didn’t, suggesting that arts participation, rather than a lack of sports participation, was associated with depression.
The researchers used data from the U. S. Survey of Youth collected from 2, 482 students 15 to 16 years old. The survey asked teens about their frequency of participation in arts or sports activities after school, and their experience of various moods or problems related to depression.
One theory the researchers proposed for the seeming link between the arts and mental illness symptoms is that people attracted to the arts might possess certain cognitive (认知的) qualities, such as absorbing a higher level of information from their surroundings. This could lead to general unhappiness and depression, yet also enhance creativity and artistic expression. The authors suggested that personality qualities linked to depression, like introversion (内向), might guide teens towards more individual activities like the arts.
“When positive behaviors such as being involved in the arts are associated with symptoms of mental illness, it’s essential that we understand why,” said Young. “Further research can address the question of whether possible psychological shortcomings can be transformed into benefits through the practice of the arts.”
28.What can we learn from the research findings
A.Art activities directly lead to teen mental illness.
B.Art participation can be related to teen depression.
C.Sports are likely to increase depression rates in teens.
D.Being depressed is necessary to become an artist later.

NASA’s Lunar Flashlight (the CubeSat), a small satellite, was launched on Dec. 1, 2022, to demonstrate several new technologies, with the goal to map ice near the Moon’s South Pole. Since then, the briefcase-size satellite’s propulsion (推进) system—the first of its kind ever flown—proved unable to generate enough force to get into lunar orbit, despite months of effort by the operations team. Because the CubeSat cannot complete operations to stay in the Earth-Moon system, NASA has called an end to the mission (任务).
NASA relies on technology demonstrations to fill specific knowledge gaps and to test new technologies. Used for the first time beyond Earth’s orbit, Lunar Flashlight’s propulsion system and green fuel were such demonstrations. Although the propulsion system was unable to produce the desired force, the newly developed propulsion system components went beyond performance expectations.
“Technology demonstrations are, by their nature, high risk and high reward, and they’re essential for NASA to test and learn,” said Christopher Baker, the program executive. “Lunar Flashlight was successful from the standpoint of being a testbed for new systems that had never flown in space before. Those systems, and the lessons Lunar Flashlight taught us, will be used for future missions.”
The mission’s four-laser reflectometer, a science instrument that had never flown before, either, also tested successfully, giving the mission’s science team confidence that the laser would have been able to detect ice if it were present at the lunar surface.
“It’s disappointing for the science team, and for the whole Lunar Flashlight team, that we won’t be able to use our laser reflectometer to make measurements on the Moon,” said Barbara Cohen, the mission’s principal investigator. “But like all the other systems, we collected a lot of in-flight performance data on the instrument that will be incredibly valuable to future application of this technique.”
32.What is the goal of the CubeSat
A.To get into lunar orbit. B.To seek out ice on the Moon.
C.To obtain green energy. D.To test the propulsion system.
33.Why did NASA end the mission
A.The team lost its contact. B.The system ran out of fuel.
C.The target was achieved. D.The satellite was in trouble.
34.What does Christopher Baker mean about Lunar Flashlight
A.It is highly significant. B.It will be started soon. C.It is a complete failure. D.It poses a major risk.
35.What is Barbara Cohen’s attitude towards the mission
A.Unclear. B.Disapproving. C.Positive. D.Cautious.
Sleep may be the single biggest factor in maintaining a healthy brain and positive mental health. This is especially true if you are under the age of 20.
What is interesting—and problematic—is that most of us live with a sleep debt: in fact we are not getting enough sleep, so we are constantly sleep-deprived
One of the most common signs of having a sleep debt is feeling like you are in a brain fog, where things are not as clear and focused as they should be. 37 Further, having a sleep debt can damage all of your brain’s systems-the ones that support perception, memory, attention, decision-making and even learning.
38 Doctors and researchers recommend between seven and nine hours of sleep per night for adults. If you sleep more than that, it is worth talking with a doctor because oversleeping can be bad for you as well.
39 First, try to go to bed at the same time every night and try waking up at the same time every day. It’s important to know that you cannot oversleep to make up for a lack of sleep. In fact, sleeping in on the weekend is one of the worst things you can do to recover from a sleep shortage. Another thing you can do to improve the quality of your sleep is to avoid looking at your phones or computers before you go to bed. 40 Finally, having a healthy, well-balanced diet and getting sufficient exercise have also been shown to improve sleep health and sleep quality.
A.Why should we get a good night’s sleep
B.What can we do to improve the quality of our sleep
C.You might wonder what a normal amount of sleep is.
D.Sleeping too much is associated with many health problems.
E.And living with a sleep debt has a negative impact on brain function.
F.The technology used to make these screens makes it hard for us to fall asleep.
G.A lack of sleep can also make us more emotional and can contribute to depression.

Whenever you have to write a paper, a letter, or any other document for work or school, you probably head toward the computer. Now, most people reach for 56 (keyboard) faster than they pick up pens.
“You’re not important, you’re not important, and you’re not important. “The words escaped from my lips as I pointed to Andrew, the kid with glasses, Jason, the boy who wants to be a skater, and Randy. the thin guy with buck (龅牙的) teeth.” I just need to ask Billy a few questions for this survey,“ I continued, pushing through the group as I searched for their leader, my friend Billy. As I questioned Billy, I saw some boys keeping a soccer ball moving around the football field. Jason, Randy, and Andrew leaned against the metal chain-link fence, almost in a daze (茫然) under the glare of the mid-May sun.
After I finished chatting with Billy, I happily walked away without another glance at the guys that he called his friends.
Many months after I had forgotten the events of that day, I somehow developed an interest in skating and even the wannabe-skater, Jason. When I asked Jason to teach me skate, he was happy to agree. At the news of Jason teaching me to skate, Andrew, Jason’s friend, was less excited. Fortunately, I recognized that Andrew hated me. Since I could not imagine what unpleasant things I had said or done to arouse such feelings, I asked Jason to explain.
“Dani, don’t you remember that day last year when you came over to us and asked to talk to Billy Do you remember not talking to the rest of us and telling us that we weren’t important ” Jason inquired. Suddenly I felt as if my heart had dropped to the bottom of my stomach — I clearly remembered that day, but I never once considered the effect I had on Jason and his friends. Immediately, I began to realize that if Andrew remembered my disdainful (轻蔑的) words, Randy, Jason, and anyone that I ever made fun of probably remembered my unkind words as well. But why had I laughed at my classmates I laughed at them only because they were different from me. My statements were completely unreasonable.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
Day by day, Jason and his friends became increasingly important to me.

根据第二段内容““I like your smile, but unlike you put your shoes on my face.” This is a way of saying “Keep off the grass.” Or “people mountain, people sea”, which means “very crowded”.
根据第三段的“When it comes to Chinglish, if all you know is “good good study, day day up”, you will be considered “out man”.( 说到中式英语,如果你只知道“good good study, day day up”,你就会被认为是“out man”)”可推断,如果关于中式英语,你只是知道“good good study, day day up”,你被认为是“out man”,因此推断一个对中式英语知之甚少的人将被称为“out man”。故选A。
根据第五段中Swire说话的内容“I think many Chinese people complain about the Chinglish and badly translated English. But you know, sometimes for us foreigners, it’s actually quite charming to see them. I think if the translations of English in China were all perfect, then something would be lost from Chinese culture. (我想很多中国人抱怨中式英语和翻译不好的英语。但是你知道,有时候对我们外国人来说,看到它们真的很迷人。我认为如果中国的英语翻译都是完美的,那么中国文化就会失去一些东西)”可知,他认为中式英语是中国文化的一部分。故选D项。
27.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中的“Beijing has made a comprehensive plan to improve foreign language services and correct Chinglish within five years. “It is very ridiculous to see Chinglish on the signs in some scenic spots. And they are a kind of barrier for communication between Chinese and people from other countries,” a Beijinger said. (北京已经制定了一项全面计划,在五年内提高外语服务和纠正中式英语。一个北京人说道:“在一些景点看到中式英语的标语是很可笑的。并且它们也是中国人与其他外国人交流的障碍。”)”可推知,中式英语会成为文化遗迹是因为在政府的政策下会逐渐消除中式英语,尤其是那些标语。故选D项。

30.主旨大意题。根据第五段第一句“One theory the researchers proposed for the seeming link between the arts and mental illness symptoms is that people attracted to the arts might possess certain cognitive (认知的) qualities, such as absorbing a higher level of information from their surroundings.(对于艺术与精神疾病症状之间的表面联系,研究人员提出的一种理论是,被艺术吸引的人可能具有某种认知能力,比如从周围环境中吸收更高水平的信息。)”和最后一句“The authors suggested that personality qualities linked to depression, like introversion (内向), might guide teens towards more individual activities like the arts.(作者认为,与抑郁有关的性格特质,比如内向,可能会引导青少年进行更多的个人活动,比如艺术。)”

根据第三段““Technology demonstrations are, by their nature, high risk and high reward, and they’re essential for NASA to test and learn,” said Christopher Baker, the program executive. “Lunar Flashlight was successful from the standpoint of being a testbed for new systems that had never flown in space before. Those systems, and the lessons Lunar Flashlight taught us, will be used for future missions.”(“技术演示,就其本质而言,是高风险和高回报的,它们对NASA的测试和学习至关重要,”项目主管克里斯托弗·贝克(Christopher Baker)说。“从作为从未在太空飞行过的新系统的试验台的角度来看,月球手电筒是成功的。这些系统,以及月球手电筒教给我们的经验教训,将用于未来的任务。”)”可推断,Christopher Baker意在说明“月球手电筒(Lunar Flashlight)”对后续任务意义重大。故选A项。

67.范文
Day by day, Jason and his friends became increasingly important to me. I came to understand that they were amazing people whose company I enjoyed a lot. Once I was completely aware of my misconception of Randy, Andrew, and Jason, I knew that I must have made numerous other mistakes. I realized that if I continued to act in this manner, I might miss the opportunity to develop friendships with incredible people, so I finally decided to make a conscious effort to think carefully about how I treat others and to be more accepting of others' differences.
Today, almost four years later, I can see a big change in myself. Instead of laughing at people for their unique characters, I welcome the diversity of people and am grateful that I have the opportunity to know and encounter a limitless range of people. Most importantly, I have learned the true meaning of equality among people; I now am able to accept that I am neither above nor below any other human being. I believe that I am now an open-minded person.
