教材分析 What:This is a passage about Zhu Hui’s story. The topic of the passage is what Zhu Hui’s family and host family are doing on Dragon Boat Festival. Why:It is important for students to learn to learn about Dragon Boat Festival. Students need to learn and use the present progressive in context. How:The type of the passage is TV report. The structure of the passage is very clear and logical.
教学目标 By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: 1. 语言能力:correctly understand and master new vocabulary and expressions in the context and master the key sentence patterns. Words and expressions: the United States, Dragon Boat Festival, make zongzi, watch boat races, any other, host family, miss one’s family, wish to do sth., any, other, young, child, delicious, still Sentence patterns: -What time is it in … -It’s ... in the morning/afternoon/evening. His dad and uncle are watching the boat races on TV. But there isn’t a Dragon Boat Festival in the US, so it’s like any other night for Zhu Hui and his host family. Zhu Hui likes New York and his host family a lot, but there’s still “ no place like home”. 2. 文化意识:Understand time difference and the traditions of Dragon Boat Festival. Pre-reading (7’)
Step 3 T leads into a conversation about time difference and asks Ss to have conversations in 2a. Ss read the conversation and have conversations with partners according to 2a. Ss firstly learn time difference so that the learning of reading can be more smoothly.
Step 4 T asks Ss to look at the pictures and guess what will be talked in this passage. Ss look at the pictures carefully and guess what will be talked in this passage. Prediction can give Ss an interesting knowledge input. Pictures can improve Ss’ ability of prediction.

Step 5 T asks students to scan the passage and find out the type of the passage. Ss read the passage and find out the type of the passage. This step can help students to know the pattern of TV report.
Step 6 T asks students read passage and answer the two questions in 2b: ①Why are Zhu Hui’s family watching boat races and making zongzi ②Does Zhu Hui like his host family What does he think about his home in China Ss read the passage carefully and then finish the questions. (Ss can discuss with classmates) Ss can have deep understanding of the passage and careful reading can help students to find the details of passage.
