Ⅰ. Teaching contents
Learn the necessary vocabulary and target language in the text.

1.Key points：
(1) Students can master the key words, phrases and sentence patterns of this class.For example, in history, on the radio, take down and so forth.
(2) Students can master the general idea of the text and understand the two major historical events.
2.Difficult points：
Students be able to retell the text using the sentence patterns learned by mind mapping.
Ⅳ. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in(2a)
1. Students look at the pictures and title in the passage and discuss the passage is about.
2.Students share their ideas in class.
3. The teacher gives comments and lead them to the topic today.
【Justification】Through the discussion of the topic of the article, stimulate students' interest in learning, so as to introduce the topic.
Step 2 Pre-reading
The teacher shows an excerpt from the passage and guides the students to understand it by using the reading strategy —— reading the title and the first sentences.
【Justification】By introducing the reading strategy,this step will help the students have a better command of the passage.
Step 3 While-reading
Fast reading (2b)
Ask students to read the passage and answer the following questions.
What are the two events in the passage
When did they happen
(3) How did Robert Allen's parents feel and what did they do after they knew Dr.King's death
(4) How did Kate Smith feel after the World Trade Center in New York was taken down
Answers:
①Dr. Martin Luther King was killed. The World Trade Center in New York was taken down by terrorists.
② Dr. Martin Luther King was killed on April 4,1968. The World Trade Center in New York was taken down by terrorists on September 11,2001.
③ They were completely shocked. They didn't talk and finished the rest of their dinner in silence.
④ She was so scared that she could hardly think clearly after that.
Careful reading(2c)
The teacher asks the students read the passage again to come to know more details. If the following statements are true, write T. If the following statements are false, write F. If the following statements are not given, write NG.
1. Students read the sentences in the box in 2c.
2. The teacher asks students to read the passage carefully and pay attention to the details.
3. Ask students write T/F/NG according to the statements in 2e.
4. Students share their answers.
【Justification】Let the students learn to find information from the first paragraph and the last sentence through the reading strategy of speed reading.
Step 4 Post-reading(2d~2e)
1. Work on 2d
(1) Ask students to read the sentences in 2d.
(2) Ask students to read the passage again and underline the sentences according to the similar meanings in 2d.

2. Retell the passage using his/her own words according to the mind map.
