“导入”板块由两个活动组成,旨在激活学生已掌握的有关科技发明与创造的语言知识和背景知识,为整个单元的学习活动做好铺垫和预热。活动一通过词语、音频和图片呈现了两组发明台式电话机和手机、纸质书和电子书,引导学生初步感知科技的进步。活动二介绍了中国古代四大发明,并引导学生列举中国现代发明创造,使学生了解中国古代灿烂的科技成就和现代领先的科技发展,激发学生的文化自信和民族自豪感,同时引入主题。 “听说”板块包括两段听力对话。第一段对话发生在周博和琳恩之间,双方谈论琳恩在科技博物馆的参观情况;第二段对话发生在吴琳和乔之间,双方谈论校园科技节中的创意发明。本板块旨在培养学生在真实语境中获取关键信息、用简单的英语进行交流的能力。

Step 1 Organization Greet the students and divide them into four groups. Good morning, boys and girls. It’s nice to see you again. How are you doing today 通过问候,尽快让学生进入课堂。
Step 2 Lead - in Ss learn the new words and play game. T lists a group of pictures (pay in cash V.S. Alipay, Nokia V.S. iphone, carriage V.S. car) and asks Ss to think about some contrastive inventions as many as possible. T helps with more invention words which Ss have difficulty expressing in English. 复习单词。 从学生日常生活中的科技发明入手,调动学生参与的积极性。
Step 3 New Lesson Pre-listening Ss listen to the recording and catch the words they’ve listened. Match pictures in Activity One with correct words. Based on the recording examples, Ss are required to compare the advantages and disadvantages between the telephone and the mobile phone & between the printed books and the e-books . T puts forward the concept of “Four Inventions in Ancient China” and asks Ss what they are. Ss are required to work in groups to discuss the “Four Inventions in Modern China” in Activity Two and T provides samples. While-listening T presents a picture of Lyn visiting the Science and Technology Museum and asks Ss to predict what will happen next. Ss listen to the main idea of the dialogue and choose the right answer. Ss listen to the main idea of the dialogue and finish the task in Activity One. Ss watch the video of the dialogue between Zhou Bo and Lyn and complete the blanks in Activity Two. T shows the dialogue script. Ss read and underline the key words and sentences to check answers. According to the script, Ss work in pairs to role play on Zhou Bo and Lyn. Ss retell the dialogue. Based on the dialogue and given information, T shows the exhibition contents on the 1st and 2nd floors with pictures and Ss tries to figure out new words. Ss work in pairs to act out the dialogues in Activity Three. T shows a picture of the School Science and Technology Festival. Ss discuss the activities and some inventions during the festival. T introduces Wu Lin and Joe to Ss and asks Ss to listen to the dialogue between them for the main idea. Ss watch the video of the dialogue and take down notes by using key words, marks or incomplete words. Ss try to complete Activity Four. T shows the dialogue and asks Ss to read it. Step 4 Practice T lists some important inventions and describes their functions in daily life with sentence patterns. T directs Ss to follow the two examples and think about a third one. Ss work in pairs to discuss the effects of important inventions on our lives. Ss are encouraged to talk with the help of the sentence patterns provided by T. Based on that, Ss finish the task in Activity Five. T holds a sharing session on “The effects of inventions on our lives”. Some groups are invited to share their ideas . 通过搭建句型支架,让学生进行模仿与替换练习,为输出更多有效表达做好铺垫。 语言输出活动应结合一定的支架搭建。学生选择教师提供的句型支架,产出自己的想法,并提升真实环境中的语用能力。

Step 3 New Lesson Pre-reading T shows three pictures in the passage and asks Ss to think about the questions: (1) What are they in English (2) What is the text probably about Ss identify the objects and predict the main idea of the passage as soon as possible. Based on the given pictures, T asks Ss to make a simple comparison between the inventions in the past and the ones in modern times. While-reading Ss skim the passage and check the prediction,T puts forward the question: What is the structure of the passage A. General---Specific √ B. General---Specific--General C. Step 4 Practice Based on the given text, T asks Ss to brainstorm more inventions in our daily life. Ss are directed to explore both advantages and disadvantages of the inventions. With the help of contrastive words & phrases and body structure, Ss work in groups to discuss the effects of the inventions on our lives, finish Activity 3. T provides the support aside. Step 2 Lead - in Ss work in groups of five (interviewer, two interviewees, note-taker, and reporter ) and finish the tasks in the class. T shows some interviewing pictures and asks Ss what they are doing and Ss identify the roles they are going to play. 明确小组合作的角色分配,利于课堂活动的有效开展。 通过展示采访图片自然切入主题,帮助学生了解阅读主题,明确小组角色分工,为本课的顺利开展做铺垫。
Step 3 New Lesson Pre-reading T shows some pictures of good Ss’ homework about effects of inventions on human lives. Ss read them and acquire more words and expression related to inventions. While-reading Ss listen and read after the recording and answer two questions. (1)How many interviewees are mentioned in the interview?And who are they? (2)What are the most useful inventions in their opinion? Ss read the interview and work in groups to write down the detailed information in Activity Four. T checks the answer through group competition and asks Ss to summarize different ways of expressing “capability”. Ss read the four complete sentences. (1) ...make it easy to... Step 4 Practice Ss picks out the emphatic sentence pattern “It is...that...”in the passage and T explains its usage. Ss make use of the emphatic sentence pattern to rewrite or retell the four sentences in Activity Four through group competition. T offers the example as follows: A:Social media makes it easy to keep in touch with friends. R1: It is social media that makes it easy to keep in touch with friends. (Subject Emphasis) R2: It is friends that social media makes it easy to keep in touch with. (Object Emphasis) Ss in groups brainstorm more emphatic sentences about the inventions and finish Activity 5. Based on step 3 and the key words & phrases, Ss work in groups to conduct an oral interview within groups. (One interviewer、 two interviewees、 one reporter、one note-taker) Ss can use the following patterns, for example: Interviewer: what’s the most useful recent invention for you Interviewee 1: I think the invention of .... is the most.... for us, because it is the... that ...in our lives; Besides, It allows me.. Step 1 Organization Greet the students and divide them into four groups. Good morning, boys and girls. It’s nice to see you again. How are you doing today 通过问候,尽快让学生进入课堂。
Step 2 Lead - in T shows some invention-related words with pictures from Ss’ homework and asks Ss to review and memorize them. 通过回顾学生作业,有效衔接上节课,调动学生的积极性,让学生积累并重温本单元主题相关的词汇。
Step 3 New Lesson Pre-listening Among inventions,T emphasizes a picture of a robot and asks Ss to answer or predict where they can see a robot in daily life and what a robot can do for us. While-listening Ss listen to the recording and tell where the dialogue takes place. Based on the given situation, Ss listen again, catch the detailed information and judge Yes or No in Activity One. T introduces the key phrases and sentence patterns, for example: Phrases: make a deposit, self-service, bank counter, Sentence patterns: (1) What can I do for you (2) I would prefer... (3) You can... and I will... (4) please take... and listen... (5) You are so helpful. Ss work in groups of four and imitate the dialogue with a role play. Ss are required to summarize the advantages and disadvantages of hiring a robot in groups and conduct a debate over the topic whether you will hire a robot and why. T may offer an example as follows: I will hire a robot because it can help me do a lot of chores; I won’t hire a robot because it isn’t familiar with all the business. T leads Ss to discuss whether the robot will replace humans’s work in the future. Through three pictures in the Activity Three,Ss work in groups to predict what will the future be like with these new inventions around. Ss read the passage and answer the following questions as soon as possible: (1) What is the general structure of the passage (2) What kind of areas in our everyday life are impacted Ss scan the passage again and finish the blanks in Activity Three. Ss underline the difficult words & phrases and try to guess the meanings. T checks the answer and analyzes the difficult words & phrases. Words: dramatic, smart, automatically, output, astronaut, planet. Step 4 Practice T directs Ss to brainstorm other aspects that new inventions have impact on and write some sentences related to those aspects (clothing, food, housing, transportation...) Ss work in groups to deliver a short speech about the impact of new inventions on the future life. 拓展学生思维,开展小组合作延伸课外学习,并让学生探索和了解新科技对未来生活许多方面产生的影响,为后续的小组汇报做铺垫。 通过展示小组合作成果,让学生自信地与班级其他同学交流和分享,形成学习共同体。
Step 5 Summary According to what Ss have learned today, they try to sort out the knowledge points. 梳理板书内容,高效整理本课思路,归纳知识点。
Step 6 Homework 1. Finish the exercise in this period. 2. Ss write a short essay about the impact of new inventions on the future life.

Step 2 Lead - in T shows video of 5G new technology and driveless vehicles and asks Ss what they are. Ss are required to work in groups to think of more new technologies around. 通过展示学生较为熟知的新科技,调动学生的积极性,引导学生感受生活中的新型科技,同时通过小组合作拓展思维,开展头脑风暴,为接下来的阅读做好铺垫。
Step 3 New Lesson Pre-reading T presents three pictures in the passage and Ss identify what they are and predict the main idea of the passage. While-reading Ss read the whole passage and discuss in groups the question again: What are the meanings of Internet of things, artificial intelligence and cloud computing T leads Ss to focus on the features of each new technology and grasp the “main verb” to describe each one of them.
