一、阅读理解
ChatGPT is an AI chatbot(智能聊天程序)from OpenAI, an AI technology company in San Francisco. It can produce any kind of writing as required. Many schools are afraid that ChatGPT could result in dishonesty and harm learning. So the tool, called AI Text Classifier from the same maker, is invented. Its task is to decide whether the writing was produced by students or by AI programs.
OpenAI warns that its new tool—like others already in use—is not perfect. The method for detecting(发现)AI-written writing “will be wrong sometimes, ”said Jan Leike of OpenAI. “Because of that,” he added, “it shouldn't be only depended upon when making decisions.”
Teenagers and college students were among the millions of people who began experimenting with ChatGPT after it was put into use on November 30. The tool is a free service on OpenAI's website. Many people have found ways to use it creatively and harmlessly. Still, some teachers are worried that it could be used to cheat.
So far public schools in some cities, such as New York City and Los Angeles, began to block(阻止)its use in classrooms and on school computers. Public schools in Seattle blocked ChatGPT on all school computers but then opened it to teachers. One spokesman Tim Robinson said teachers wanted to use ChatGPT as a teaching tool. "We can't afford to ignore it, "Robinson said. Students could also use the service as a “personal teacher” or to help create ideas when doing homework, Robinson said.
OpenAI talked about its new tool on a blog recently. But the company added that the tool could help to find some mistakes in writing as well as catch cheating. The longer a piece of writing is, the better the tool is at deciding whether an AI system or a human wrote something.

Some pickles(榨菜)can sometimes make a meal taste better. Recently, a new type of pickle is being discussed:" digital pickles". In fact, they are the attractive videos people watch while eating.
The topic received more than 16 million clicks online and about 100, 000 people joined in the discussion. Instead of being with friends and family during a meal, many young people in China are kept company by TV shows or short videos. Many believe that their food tastes better with the “digital pickles”.
Can this habit affect your diet According to a research paper, you may eat more unconsciously(无意识地). The international research team asked 62 volunteers to follow different eating habits on four different days. Those included eating while looking at the mobile phone, reading magazines and doing nothing else. After analyzing(分析)their diets, the team discovered that eating with a distraction(使人分心的事物)resulted in taking in more calories by about 15 percent.
To explore the reason, the team also invited two groups of people: one group ate while listening to sounds about another person eating and the other listened to those that helped them imagine themselves eating. The results showed that the second group ate less since they were more focused on their meals. When eating with the "digital pickles", our attention can be attracted, which leads to eating more than expected.
This works not only for eating meals but other demanding tasks as well. A research project led by the University of Sussex, UK, pointed out that activities which require lots of attention cheat many into overeating. The team invited 120 volunteers to do different tasks while providing them with drinks and snacks. “Our study suggests that if you're eating or drinking while your attention is attracted by a highly engaging task, you're less likely to tell how full you feel, "one author explained.

Imagine driving behind a huge truck shooting clouds of smoke into the air while your new fully electric vehicle cleans up its carbon emissions. This dream may soon be a reality. A team of students in the Netherlands has created an electric car that not only doesn't produce carbon dioxide when driving, but actually pulls it out of the air.
The two-seater sports car was designed and built in less than a year by a team of 35 students at Eindhoven University of Technology. Called "ZEM", which stands for "Zero Emission Mobility", the car is equipped with special devices that remove carbon dioxide from the air as it drives. The team calculates if ZEM is driven about 32,000 kilometres, it can remove 2 kilogrammes of carbon dioxide from the air. That's not a huge amount, but 10 ZEM cars on the road for a year would remove as much carbon dioxide as a typical tree does during that time. They point out that there are over a billion passenger cars in the world that could be using this technology. And if a billion cars were removing carbon dioxide instead of producing it, the result would be huge.
ZEM also has several other innovations that help to make it more sustainable: The car's frame and panels (控制板) are 3D printed to reduce waste; it was built using recycled and recyclable materials; and it can be easily taken apart so that many of its parts can be reused. ZEM's battery is also reusable, and has another handy feature: It can be charged with solar panels on the car's roof—and can even be used to provide power to your house when the car isn't on the road.
According to the statistics, transportation was responsible for over 20% of global carbon dioxide emissions in 2020—and of those emissions, cars were responsible for 41%. The Eindhoven team says its goal is to challenge the electric car industry: If 35 students can build a car like this in less than a year, then surely car manufacturers (生产商) are expected to adopt these innovations, too.
9.What is special about ZEM
A. It can end the world's CO, release.
B. It can cut the truck's CO, emissions.
C. It can reduce the level of CO, in the air.
D. It can absorb dirty air as well as CO.
10.Why does the team calculate the amount of CO, absorbed by ZEM in Paragraph 2
A. To demonstrate a superb vision of ZEM cars.
B. To explain how ZEM removes CO, as trees do.
C. To illustrate the ongoing change in car making.
D. To show the influence of ZEM on the car market.
11.What do we know about all the components of ZEM
A. They are of high quality.
B. They are easy to process.
C. They are convenient to print.
D. They are environmentally friendly.
12.What does the Eindhoven team hope to achieve in the future
A. Sharp decline in fuel consumption.

Tonight, our family was going out to play under the full moon.
My husband Todd and I first started going on full moon walks for ourselves, as we needed these little doses of moonlight to stay happy, though sometimes we had to hike through the forest to find a perfect spot. But after we became parents, we did this for our children. We wanted to show Sierra and Bryce that it was not necessary to travel far from home to have an adventure and learn something new, and that there was much magic in the natural world, available to all.
Once we arrived at our location, Sierra and I stood holding hands, waiting to cheer the full moon in its rising—a thin sliver of the appealing moon emerged above the ridge of the mountain afar. Soon, more of the moon came out until it turned into a brilliant orange sphere. Todd explained to Sierra and Bryce that the moon generates no light, but simply acts like a mirror, reflecting the sunlight back to us. “Does the moon’s face change ” Bryce asked. I told him that the moon rotates (旋转) around the earth, but does not spin by itself, so the same side of the moon is always facing the earth. Sierra remarked that the moon looked larger and closer when it was rising. I explained that it is a visual illusion (错觉) because it is so close to the horizon that the moon magically tricks our eyes into comparing it with nearby objects, thus creating the impression of the increased size.
Much of the knowledge that I shared with the kids was learned from my parents. During my childhood, they would take me on educational adventures out in the woods, and as I later found, so did their parents. So every time I go for a full moon walk with my beloved family, I thank those wise educators who came before me.
To educate, sometimes all it takes is going outdoors and gazing up at the heavens.
13.What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 2 refer to
A. Going on a hike through the forest.
B. Taking a walk under the full moon.
C. Watching magic shows every month.

15.Which of the following best describes the parents

Most of us probably cannot imagine modern life without social media, which has both the potential to negatively impact our mental and emotional health if used blindly and the ability to connect us in many unexpected ways.
With social media, friendships go beyond geography. We are able to find friends old and new, thus maintaining old friendships and making new ones. Some would question the quality of these friendships, but perhaps what is important is that a link exists between you and that person. Then, we can possibly build friendships upon this link in the future.
Nevertheless, social media does consume our energy and lower our self-esteem (自尊心) at times. A 2013 study by Ethan Kross and Philippe Verduyn, published by the Public Library of Science, found that the more a person usces Facebook, the more miserable he feels about his own life. Essena O'Neill, an Internet celebrity (名人), recently announced to quit social media, saying it is "not real life". Taking countless photos just to look great in a single post and seeking social approval from "likes" and "views" have left her feeling "empty".
However, those affected are usually teenagers who possess shaky self-identities. It is only natural for teenagers to seek popularity and social recognition. However, for every teenager who feels jealous, envious or depressed online, there is another who chooses to feel energetic, inspired and accepted by positive social connections.
From what perspective do we wish to approach social media Social media does not cause unhappiness; it simply provides an alternative platform for teenagers to experiment with, as they grow up, something they have always done offline. Teen activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai says, "What is interesting is the power and the impact of social media... So we must try to use social media in a good way."
17.Which best describes the impact of social media on friendships
A. It helps build friendships across distance.
B. It improves the quality of new friendships.
C. It only has a short-term impact on friendships.
D. It makes it harder to maintain old friendships.
18.Why does the author mention "a study" and "a celebrity" in Paragraph 3
A. To explain a rule. B. To make a prediction.
C. To present a fact. D.To prove an argument.
19.What's the author's attitude towards teenagers using social media
A. Positive. B. Objective. C. Doubtful. D. Indifferent.
20.What may be discussed in the next part of this passage
A. Demand for advances in social media.
B. The wide applications of social media.
C. Advice on using social media positively.
D. The possible harm of social media to users.

To expand on the wisdom of Earnhardt, although second place may be the first loser, third place can be the real winner, at least when it comes to happiness and longevity. A 1995 study discovered that bronze winners appeared consistently happier on average than silver medalists, while another research in 2018 studied US athletes in the Olympics from 1904 to 1936 and found that those whose best performance was silver lived to 72 on average. 28.答案:
Dear Alex;
I’m glad to receive your email. Knowing that you’ve learned how to use chopsticks, I’m so proud of you. Actually, I also have similar experience to share with you.
Since I watched the Winter Olympics Games in Beijing, I’ve fallen in love with skating. From then on, I’ve made up my mind to learn it. But as soon as I stepped on the ice, I found myself unable to keep my balance and kept stumbling. I found it really difficult to learn skating. Frustrated though I was, when I thought of the athletes on the field, I didn’t give up. Eventually, with continuous effort, I could skate quite well.
From learning skating, I know while doing anything, we often meet many kinds of difficulties, but we shouldn’t lose heart. Instead, we should try our best to overcome them.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
