An eating disorder is a mental health condition that significantly affects food decisions, self-image and everyday activities, which can affect anyone of any age and any gender. Millions of Americans are diagnosed with an eating disorder each year. Here are four common types of eating disorders.
Avoidant or restrictive food intake disorder
According to Alina Petre, a registered dietitian, people with this kind of eating disorder eat less due to a lack of interest in food or distaste for how certain foods look, or smell, or taste. They may lose weight, or experience nutritional shortage due to eating less than what is necessary for maintaining a healthy diet.
Anorexia Nervosa
This is the type everyone usually first thinks of when they hear the term "eating disorder". People with anorexia nervosa are crazy about perfecting their body image. They like to remain in control by limiting the amount of calories they consume to achieve their ideal body shape. Even when they are severely underweight, people with this disorder have a hard time recognizing it.
Bulimia Nervosa
People with this type of eating disorder indulge (沉溺于) in a large amount of food, and make themselves purge (清除) shortly after. Purging gives them a sense of relief. And similarly to anorexia nervosa, this helps them feel like they're in control of their own bodies.
It may be hard for others to spot those with bulimia nervosa because they might be able to maintain a normal weight.
Binge eating disorder
People who binge consume a large amount of food on a day-to-day basis. They often top the suggested daily calorie intake, and are usually overweight or obese.
21.Which of the following makes patients lack interest in food
A.Bulimia Nervosa. B.Anorexia Nervosa.
C.Restrictive food intake disorder. D.Binge eating disorder.

C.To recognize their underweight. D.To keep their figure.
23.What’s the similarity between Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa
A.Feeling their bodies are under control. B.Recognizing their own eating disorder.
C.Keeping a normal body weight. D.Creating an individualized treatment plan.

The example of a foreign teacher who volunteered to help fight the wildfires in Chongqing’s Beibei District with other local residents has touched many.
In the unbearable heat and drought conditions, multiple wildfires hit parts of Chongqing. On Sunday night, a forest fire broke out and spread in Beibei District. The local government issued an urgent call for volunteers with certain skills and experience, such as chain saw(链锯)operation, to join in the firefighting. Chain saws were used to create fire barriers.
“I was happy to help,” said Francis Stonier, a professor in a university. “I used to cut trees around my yard and neighborhood and had volunteered many times in the US in the past.”
Stonier found a translator—50-year-old He Wu, a foreign language professor—who also signed up to fight fires. Soon after arriving at the volunteer area, the pair were assigned to one of the chain saw groups—examining and adjusting chain saws.
“Stonier is responsible and focused, and is doing a really good job,” said He, adding that Stonier checked each chain saw carefully, to see if it was too tight or too loose. “Wherever I went, the volunteers and local residents gave me a big thumbs-up. It was an unforgettable experience,” Stonier said.
Thanks to the joint efforts of fire and rescue workers, as well as volunteers and residents, the scaring wildfire in Beibei had been put out as of Thursday night.
“It was great to see such an outpouring of help in the extreme heat,” Stonier said, noting that he was impressed with the number of locals who came to help. Motorcyclists gave up their jobs to transport materials and people up and down the mountains. Others gave their time to carry heavy supplies, prepare and serve meals or help organize.
24.What caused the outbreak of the forest fire in Beibei District
A.The extreme heat and drought.
B.The local area being short of water.
C.The existence of enough oil materials.
D.The lack of people guarding the forest.
25.Why was Stonier accepted to participate in the firefighting
A.He was capable of creating fire barriers.
B.He was experienced in chain saw operation.
C.He was determined to become a firefighter.
D.He showed no consideration for his own safety.
26.Which words can best describe Stonier
A.Determined and creative. B.Generous and independent.
C.Devoted and courageous. D.Humorous and passionate.
27.What message does the author intend to convey in the last paragraph
A.To care is to help.
B.Many hands make light work.
C.Dare to challenge and achieve yourself.
D.Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.

The city of Venice, Italy, has finally made a long-awaited decision. Starting on August 1, 2021, cruise ships (游轮) will no longer be allowed to enter the city’s waters.
Contrary to popular opinion, these cruise ship visitors contribute relatively little to the local tourism economy. The New York Times reported cruise ship passengers add up to 73% of visitors, but contribute a mere 18% of tourism dollars. The percentage is inverted for people who spend at least one night at a hotel; they represent 14% of visitors, but 48% of the business.
Many people are overjoyed by the news, especially environmental activists. Firstly, the cruise ships would disturb the waterways and erode (侵蚀) the foundations of already weak buildings. A 2019 study published in Nature found the waves created by large ships could “redistribute industrial pollutants already present in the waters.” Others have said these same waves made huge holes in the underwater bottoms of buildings, making them unstable. Furthermore, when canals are deepened in order to allow larger boats, it destroys coastal habitats and makes floods worse. This is part of the reason why, in recent years, Venice has experienced terrible flooding that completely flooded St. Mark’s Square and other landmarks.
The announcement came as a surprise as many did not expect the regional government to act so quickly. In April a similar ban was issued, but it depended on finding an alternative port for the ships—a requirement that local people complained could take years to achieve. The announcement made last week, however, did away with that condition, allowing the city to move forward quickly with the ban.
28.What does the underlined word “inverted” mean in Paragraph 2
A.Increased slightly. B.Looked down upon.
C.Adjusted accordingly. D.Turned upside down.
29.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A.Reasons for Venice’s terrible floods.
B.Dangers cruise ships brought about.
C.Reaction to the long-awaited decision.
D.Damage waves did to buildings.
30.What is Venetians’ attitude toward the April ban
A.Unclear. B.Hopeful. C.Doubtful. D.Objective.
31.What is the best title for the text
A.Venice Says “No” to Cruise Ships.
B.The Long-awaited Decision to be Made.
C.Cruise Ships Erodes Ancient Venice.
D.Venice Tries to Protect Its Waterway.

Libraries are romantic places. The romance is that of reading, and the wealth of human imagining and learning that is contained in them. Access to the knowledge and literary art poetry, fiction, drama)in a library is precious -and particularly valuable to young minds and people of any age with an interest in education.
It would be hard to find anyone who actively disapproves of libraries. But when it comes to reality, Britain’s libraries are on less solid ground. The number of books borrowed in the year ending in March.2021 was 72.9m,down 56%on the previous year. Physical visits also collapsed, from 214.6m to 59.7m.
Of course, this is the behaviour that one would expect during a pandemic. Many libraries were closed during this period, while people were discouraged from unnecessary mixing. Book sales climbed to their highest in a decade in 2021, which suggests that some former users of libraries may have bought books instead.
Private libraries at home, whether large collections or single bookshelves, appear to be developing well. But the hope must be that visits and loans at public libraries will soon return to their former level too. Like any other service, libraries need users. And while booksellers might in one sense be regarded as competitors, in fact the vast majority of those involved in the trade, from publishers to poets, are library lovers.
This has something to do with the romantic idea of the reader as explorer, with every book a door to a new store of feeling or understanding. But it also involves the recognition that if books are to form part of our life, there must be space in public for them. Books can be treasured possessions, but there is also something special about a copy that arrives in your hands having passed through those of others -and that will go on being passed between strangers who share your curiosity.
32.What has happened to British libraries
A.They have been in a bad state.
B.They have become romantic places.
C.They have got great appeal for artists.
D.They have suffered great loss of users.
33.What has led to the home library boom in Britain
A.People avoid close contact in public.
B.Many libraries have been pulled down.
C.People have access to affordable books.
D.More people disapprove of public libraries.
34.What does the author try to convey in the last paragraph
A.Books are personal belongings.
B.Libraries are a paradise for adventurers.
C.Books should be attached importance to.
D.Libraries contribute to human connection.
35.What is the main idea of the text
A.Libraries will fade out of stage.
B.Libraries will hold a promising future.
C.Booksellers benefit from libraries’ collapse.
D.The pandemic has boosted British book sales.

Visit the grocery store on an empty stomach, and you will probably come home with a few things you did not plan to buy. 36 . The location of store displays (摆放) also influences our shopping choices. And it may make or break some healthy eating habits.
The checkout area is a particular hotspot for junk food. Studies have found that the products most commonly found there are sugary and salty snacks. And a few studies have suggested that simply swapping in healthier options can change customer behavior. A 2012 study in the Netherlands found that hospital workers were more likely to give up junk food for healthy snacks. 37 In 2014 Norwegian and Icelandic researchers also found that replacing unhealthy foods with healthy ones in the checkout area significantly increased last-minute sales of healthier foods.
38 It has been working with more than 1,000 store owners to encourage them to order and promote nutritious foods. “We know that the stores are full of cues (暗示) meant to encourage consumption,” says Tamar Adjoian, a research scientist at the department, “Making healthy foods more convenient or appealing can lead to increased sales of those products.”
Adjoian and her colleagues wondered if such findings would apply to their city’s crowded urban checkout areas, so they selected three Bronx supermarkets for their own study. 39 Then they recorded purchases over six three-hour periods in each store for two weeks.
Of the more than 2,100 shoppers they observed, just 4 percent bought anything from the checkout area. Among those who did, however, customers in the healthy lines purchased nutritious foods more than twice as often as those in the standard lines. 40 The findings were reported in September in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior.
The potential influence may seem small, but Adjoian believes that changing more checkout lines would open customers’ eyes to nutritious, lower-calorie foods. Health department officials are now exploring ways to expand healthy options at checkout counters throughout New York City.
A.These foods give people more energy.
B.They bought unhealthy foods 40 percent less often.
C.But hunger is not the only cause of additional purchases.
D.The supermarkets began to offer nutritious, lower-calorie foods.
E.It happened when the latter were more readily available on canteen shelves.
F.These findings caught the attention of New York City Department of Health.
G.They replaced candies and cookies with fruits and nuts near the checkout counter.

“Where is it We’re going to be late!” Janice searched the house crazily for her wallet. “Josh! Did you hide my wallet We have to be at Grandpa’s for his birthday party!” Josh, Janice’s four-year-old younger brother, smiled innocently at her, but his cunning (狡黠的) eyes gave himself away. She tried her best not to shout. Grinning (咧嘴笑) like a cat, Josh reached under the sofa, pulled out her wallet and held it over his head. Janice grabbed it.
Ten minutes later, they hurried to the train station. Red-faced and sweating, Janice let go of Josh’s wrist and removed the sweat from her forehead. The train arrived. Her smile froze when she realized that the train was packed with passengers. Grabbing Josh’s hand, Janice boarded the train. She commanded, “The train’s really crowded, Josh. Behave yourself, stick close to me, and no monkey business!” Josh nodded, holding tightly to a rail. Janice smiled.
When it was time to get off the train, Janice quickly pushed her way through the crowd to get onto the platform. “We made it!” Janice said, turning around. Josh was nowhere to be seen. The crowd was flooding out, but Josh was not among them. “The train doors are closing,” then came the electronic voice. Soon, the crowd on the platform died down. The last thing Janice saw was Josh’s little anxious face at the train window: Just as Janice was about to call out Josh’s name, the train disappeared from view. “Josh!” Janice screamed.
Janice’s mind was transported back to when she was lost at the zoo. She could still vividly remember the towering figures surrounding her and none of them were’ familiar. “I don’t want Josh to go through that same bitter experience,” Janice let out a sigh.
Janice took out her mobile phone, ready to call her mother. However, midway, she decided against it. Her mother, who was far away in France on business, could do nothing but get restless. Janice paced up and down the platform anxiously.

根据文章第二段“The local government issued an urgent call for volunteers with certain skills and experience, such as chain saw operation, to join in the firefighting. Chain saws were used to create fire barriers.(当地政府紧急呼吁具有一定技能和经验(如链锯操作)的志愿者加入救火。链锯被用来制造防火屏障。)”可知,政府需要有使用链锯操作经验的志愿者。根据文章第三段“I used to cut trees around my yard and neighborhood and had volunteered many times in the US in the past.(我过去经常在我的院子和社区周围砍树,也曾多次在美国做志愿者。)”
根据文章第二段“On Sunday night, a forest fire broke out and spread in Beibei District.(周日晚上,北碚区发生森林火灾并蔓延。)”和第三段“‘I was happy to help,’ said Francis Stonier, a professor in a university. ‘I used to cut trees around my yard and neighborhood and had volunteered many times in the US in the past.’(“我很乐意帮忙,”一所大学的教授弗朗西斯·斯托尼尔说。)”可知,在北碚区发生森林火灾这么危险的情况下,Stonier还是乐意去帮忙,说明他是勇敢的;根据文章第五段“‘Stonier is responsible and focused, and is doing a really good job,’ said He, adding that Stonier checked each chain saw carefully, to see if it was too tight or too loose.(他说:“斯托尼尔很负责,很专注,工作做得很好。”他补充道,斯托尼尔仔细检查了每一把链锯,看看它是太紧还是太松了。)”可知,Stonier在志愿者活动期间工作非常认真负责,这说明他是全心全意来做这项工作的。C选项描述正确。故选C。
27.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“‘It was great to see such an outpouring of help in the extreme heat,’ Stonier said, noting that he was impressed with the number of locals who came to help. Motorcyclists gave up their jobs to transport materials and people up and down the mountains. Others gave their time to carry heavy supplies, prepare and serve meals or help organize.(史托尼尔说:“在酷热的天气下,能看到这么多人伸出援手,真是太棒了。”他还指出,前来帮忙的当地人之多给他留下了深刻印象。骑摩托车的人放弃了工作,在山上来回运送物资和人员。其他人则花时间搬运沉重的物资,准备和提供饭菜,或者帮助组织。)”可知,在这场火灾中,不同身份的人们都齐聚在一起,共同为扑灭火灾而努力。所以作者想表达的是“众人拾柴火焰高,人多力量大”这一道理。B选项“Many hands make light work.(众人拾柴火焰高。)”

根据第二段“The New York Times reported cruise ship passengers add up to 73% of visitors, but contribute a mere 18% of tourism dollars.”(据《纽约时报》报道,游轮乘客占游客总数的73%,但仅占旅游收入的18%。)及划线单词后“for people who spend at least one night at a hotel; they represent 14% of visitors, but 48% of the business.”(对于在酒店至少住一晚的人来说,他们占游客总数的14%,但占商业总数的48%。)
根据第三段“Firstly, the cruise ships would disturb the waterways and erode (侵蚀) the foundations of already weak buildings.”(首先,游轮会扰乱水道,侵蚀本已脆弱的建筑物的地基。)及“Furthermore, when canals are deepened in order to allow larger boats, it destroys coastal habitats and makes floods worse.”(此外,当为了允许更大的船只而加深运河时,会破坏沿海栖息地,使洪水更加严重。)
根据第四段“In April a similar ban was issued, but it depended on finding an alternative port for the ships—a requirement that local people complained could take years to achieve.”(4月,一项类似的禁令被发布,但这取决于为船只找到一个替代港口——当地人抱怨这一要求可能需要数年时间才能实现。)
根据第一段“Starting on August 1, 2021, cruise ships (游轮) will no longer be allowed to enter the city’s waters.”(从2021年8月1日起,游轮将不再被允许进入该市水域。) 故选A项。

根据第二段中“But when it comes to reality, Britain’s libraries are on less solid ground. The number of books borrowed in the year ending in March.2021 was 72.9m,down 56%on the previous year. Physical visits also collapsed, from 214.6m to 59.7m.”(但在现实中,英国的图书馆却缺乏坚实的基础。
根据第三段中“Of course, this is the behaviour that one would expect during a pandemic. Many libraries were closed during this period, while people were discouraged from unnecessary mixing. Book sales climbed to their highest in a decade in 2021, which suggests that some former users of libraries may have bought books instead.”(当然,这是人们在疫情期间预计会出现的行为。 故选A项。
根据最后一段中“But it also involves the recognition that if books are to form part of our life, there must be space in public for them. Books can be treasured possessions, but there is also something special about a copy that arrives in your hands having passed through those of others -and that will go on being passed between strangers who share your curiosity.”(但它也涉及到认识到,如果书籍要成为我们生活的一部分,就必须在公共场所为它们留出空间。
根据第一段“Libraries are romantic places. The romance is that of reading, and the wealth of human imagining and learning that is contained in them. Access to the knowledge and literary art poetry, fiction, drama)in a library is precious -and particularly valuable to young minds and people of any age with an interest in education.”(图书馆是一个浪漫的地方。 以及第四段中“But the hope must be that visits and loans at public libraries will soon return to their former level too. Like any other service, libraries need users. And while booksellers might in one sense be regarded as competitors, in fact the vast majority of those involved in the trade, from publishers to poets, are library lovers.”(但人们一定希望,公共图书馆的访客和借阅量也能很快恢复到以前的水平。

36.设空前文“Visit the grocery store on an empty stomach, and you will probably come home with a few things you did not plan to buy.(空着肚子去杂货店,你可能会带着一些你没有打算买的东西回家)”讲到空着肚子影响购物选择,而设空后文“The location of store displays also influences our shopping choices.(商店陈列的位置也会影响我们的购物选择)”则提出影响购物选择的另一个因素是商店陈列,由此推知,设空句应是过渡转折句,强调饥饿并不是唯一的影响购物的因素,以引出后文内容。选项C“But hunger is not the only cause of additional purchases.(但饥饿并不是增加购买的唯一原因)”符合分析,“But”可与前文构成转折关系。故选C项。
37.根据前文“A 2012 study in the Netherlands found that hospital workers were more likely to give up junk food for healthy snacks.(2012年荷兰的一项研究发现,医院工作人员更有可能放弃垃圾食品,转而吃健康零食)”提出了一个现象,那么设空句是解释医务工作做出这种选择的原因。选项E“It happened when the latter were more readily available on canteen shelves.(当时,后者在食堂的货架上更容易买到)”解释了原因,“It”指代前文这一现象,前后衔接紧密。故选E项。
38.根据后文“It has been working with more than 1,000 store owners to encourage them to order and promote nutritious foods.(它一直在与1000多家店主合作,鼓励他们订购和推广营养食品)”提出了“它”的措施,那么设空句应是提及“它”是什么,即,出现一个专有名词。选项F“These findings caught the attention of New York City Department of Health.(这些发现引起了纽约市卫生局的注意)”提到了一个机构“纽约市卫生局”,就是后文中的“它”,且“These findings”呼应前一段提及一系列“购买健康食物”的发现。故选F项。
39.根据前文“Adjoian and her colleagues wondered if such findings would apply to their city’s crowded urban checkout areas, so they selected three Bronx supermarkets for their own study.(阿卓安和她的同事想知道这些发现是否适用于他们城市拥挤的结账区,所以他们选择了布朗克斯的三家超市进行自己的研究)”提出研究人员为了证明把健康食品放在收银处,是不是影响拥挤的市区内的顾客的购买行为,他们选择了三家超市,那么设空句应讲述在这三家超市做了什么实验,选项G“They replaced candies and cookies with fruits and nuts near the checkout counter.(他们把收银处附近的糖和饼干换成了水果和坚果)”解释了他们的实验行为,且与后文“Then they recorded purchases over six three-hour periods in each store for two weeks.(然后,他们在两周的时间里,在每家商店记录了六次三小时的购物记录)”构成了顺承关系,前后衔接紧密。故选G项。
40.根据前文“Of the more than 2,100 shoppers they observed, just 4 percent bought anything from the checkout area. Among those who did, however, customers in the healthy lines purchased nutritious foods more than twice as often as those in the standard lines.(在他们观察的2100多名购物者中,只有4%的人在收银台买了东西。

I’m coming,” Janice comforted him. Soon Janice caught the next train. On getting off at Paya Station, she saw Josh dashing towards her, his face soaked with tears. Janice wrapped him into a tight hug, whispering, “Thank goodness! I’ve found you at last!” Taking Josh’s hand, Janice approached the kind lady passenger, who had been accompanying Josh and had missed her own train. Janice expressed her sincere appreciation repeatedly.
Having waved goodbye to the lady, they headed for their destination. After about an hour’s bus ride, they made it to their Grandpa’s house, where they threw a grand birthday party for Grandpa, singing and dancing cheerfully. Having had a delicious meal and a happy chat, they parted with Grandpa and started their trip back home. This time, Janice held Josh’s hand all the way and they boarded the returning train. “Thankfully you don’t have to be put through that terrible experience,” Janice smiled at Josh, assuring her brother, “Never will I leave you alone.” For them, this unforgettable trip would stick in their memories.
