Would you eat a ready meal from the fridge rather than cook by yourself Have you been doing Internet shopping rather than going to the stores What can’t you be bothered to do
A study into how lazy British people are has found more than half of the adults are so idle (懒散的) that they’d catch the lift rather than climb two flights of stairs.
Just over 2,000 people were quizzed by independent researchers at Nuffield Health, Britain’s largest health center. The results were extremely surprising.
About one in six people questioned said if their remote control was broken, they would continue watching the same channel rather than get up.
More than one third of those questioned said they would not run to catch a bus. Worryingly, of the 654 respondents with children, 64% said they were often too tired to play with them.
This led the report to conclude that it’s no wonder that one in six children in the UK are classified as obese (very fat) before they start school.
Dr Sarah Dauncey, medical director of Nuffield Health, said, “People need to get fitter, not just for their own sake, but for the sake of their families, friends and evidently (明显地;显然) their pets too.”
“If we don’t start to take control of this problem, a whole generation will become too unfit to perform even the most fundamental tasks.”
And Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow, was shamed as the idlest city in the UK, with 75% questioned admitting they do not get enough exercise, followed closely by Birmingham and Southampton, both with 67%.
The results bring serious challenges for the National Health Service, where obesity-related illnesses such as heart disease and cancer have been on a steady increase for the past 40 years and are costing billions of pounds every year.

Li Meixi, 12, feels worried about her looks—not her face, but her clothes. When she sees stylish people on the street, she avoids running into them. “I am afraid that they think I am out of style. Ashamed of my ordinary outfit, I feel like I don’t even deserve(值得) to walk on the same street with them, ” said Li, from Chengdu, Sichuan.
What Li is experiencing is fashion anxiety. It bothers many people today. They are worried about their clothes, afraid of being seen out of style.
A big reason for fashion worries is fashion bullying, experts said. As fashion magazines, advertisements and idols show off the “latest and greatest” trends(潮流), there’s a lot of pressure on people, especially teenagers, to follow them, no matter how expensive it might be. “The need to belong in groups is very important to young learners and exclusion(排斥) is something they see as the end of the world,” said Andy Crankarm, a teacher at City of Bristol College, the UK.
Another reason why some people might have fashion worries is that they don’t have a sense of self-identity( 自 我 认 同 ). It looks like we feel worried about our clothes, but actually we are not confident enough. So we care about how fashionable people look at us. We easily doubt or even blame ourselves. The reality is that those people usually don’t notice us at all.
Fashion trends come and go, always changing. Instead of rushing to follow a trend, the key is to find your own style. If you’re able to wear something with confidence, you will be the one starting a trend. More importantly, the clothes are just a part of your image( 形 象 ). It can’t tell the true you. What also matters is your personality and abilities.
How does the writer lead into the topic in Paragraph 1
By giving an example.
By making a comparison.
By quoting famous sayings.
By providing exact numbers.
The underlined word “them” in Paragraph 3 refers to “ ”.
A. teenagers B. trends C. magazines D. advertisements
What causes so many people’s fashion worries
①Some trends might give people pressure.
②Teenagers like to wear expensive clothes.
③People worry about or doubt themselves.
④Fashion trends make people confident.
A. ①④ B. ②④ C. ①③ D. ②③
What can we learn from the last paragraph
The fashion trend is part of our daily life.
Finding our own style is following the trend.
It’s always necessary for teenagers to follow the trends.
Personality and abilities are also important to our images.
What might be the best title for the passage
A. Fashion Worries B. Fashion Bullying C. Fashion trends D. Fashion Clothes

①Taihu Tunnel, 10.79 kilometres long and 43.6 metres wide, has been the longest underwater tunnel in China. It stands out as one of the “2022 China's Top 100 Buildings in the New Era”.
②When building Taihu Tunnel, the project team faced many challenges, such as high safety risks and time limit. To deal with them, they made workable plans. They divided the tunnel construction(建造)into 19 parts. The construction of each part mainly took four steps. First, Remove. The team built
a cofferdam to clean up water from the area, so the workers could go inside and do their work in dry conditions. Second, Clear. The team dug deep into the lake bed, and cleared the soil and stones out in order to make space for the next step. Then, Build. The team built the floor, walls and ceiling of the tunnel in this step. Finally, Backfill. The team put the soil and stones back and then this part of the tunnel was put deep down the lake bed.
③The construction of the 19 parts was streamlined(流线型的).The project team used a new method. The work group of each step moved to the next part and repeated their work after they finished the work in the last part. Different work groups worked well with each other. From part to part, the construction started from the opposite ends, and got connected somewhere in the middle. The construction took about four years to complete, shorter than people had expected.
④The drivers' safety is fully considered in Taihu Tunnel. There are 200,000 LED lights on the ceiling of the tunnel. They show pictures of blue sky, starry night and so on. The pictures can help drivers fight tiredness and travel through the tunnel safely. Besides, there are two systems in the tunnel. The police can check the traffic situation through a monitoring system. If traffic accidents happen, the police can give instructions and warn drivers in the tunnel over an audio system to prevent further accidents.
⑤The construction of Taihu Tunnel shows great value in engineering and the tunnel makes life much easier for people living nearby.

Keeping dyeing(染色工艺) tradition alive
Known as “soft gold”, gambiered Canton gauze(香云纱) is the best silk fabric(布料) for cheongsam(旗袍). It feels smooth and comfortable, easy to wash and dry, and is also good for people's health.
Gambiered Canton gauze is the only silk fabric that's still hand-dyed
using natural plants in the world today. It gets its color from a yam( 薯 蓣 ) plant called shuliang. The plant grows in Shunde, Guangdong. It can help fight against bacteria and bad smells.
The skill of dyeing gambiered Cantongauze has a history of more than 500 years. In 2008, it was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage(国家非物质文化遗产).
A master's story
Ouyang Yongze is an inheritor of the dyeing skill of gambiered Canton gauze from Shunde, Guangdong. The 50-year-old started learning the skill in 2017.
The dyeing includes 30 steps and is all done by hand with natural materials. "Shuliang, river mud, sunshine, and meadows (草地) play key roles in the dyeing," Ouyang told Teens.
To dye the fabric, workers put it in yam juice and then let it dry on the grass. They do this many times until it turns brownish-yellow. Then, they put river mud on it to help the yam react fully. After washing and drying again, the fabric turns black!
Mastering the dyeing skill is not easy. Ouyang had to try many times before he could get the right density of yam juice." Too much may cause color loss, and too little may not lead to a dark enough fabric," he said.
Passing on the craft is also challenging. It can be tiring to work under the sun for eight hours a day. Only a few people work in that line of work, and the skilled masters are getting older.

Welcome to our school!
In junior high school, life will be different from that in primary school. To get used to the middle school life, I have some suggestions for you.
On the one hand, you’ll have more subjects to learn. So it’s important to have good study habits. You need to listen to the teachers carefully and finish homework on time. In your free time, reading is a good choice, which can open up a new world to you. Remember that exercise is also necessary for your study.
On the other hand, joining some clubs can make your school life more colorful. For example, in the “Buddy Club”, older students help new students learn more about the school. If you want to make new friends or get some help, you can join it.
I hope you will have a wonderful school life here.
