According to the book records, there are more than 8,000 kinds of popular Chinese dishes, not to mention those that are not so well known. The materials of Chinese food can be generally classified into 600 categories. There are 48 kinds of basic cooking methods, including baking, frying, boiling, etc.In China, special meanings are given to different foods. Some foods may be taken only in certain occasions, or by certain groups of people. For example, noodle is a symbol of longevity in Chinese culture. In many western countries, cake is taken to celebrate birthday, whereas in China, noodle is taken instead of cake.
