Unit 7
Translation
Answer to translation for reference
The main difference between Chinese and western eating habits are that unlike the West, where everyone has their own plate of food, in China the dishes are placed on the table and everybody shares. In the cooking of Chinese food, food is cut into bite-size pieces. Therefore, people usually use chopsticks instead of knife and fork.
Here are some tips for you to attend a Chinese dinner:
1. Don't stick your chopsticks upright in the rice bowl. Instead, lay them on your dish.
2. Chopsticks are the most distinctive eating tool. It is also considered impolite to point with chopsticks.
3. Don't tap on your bowl with your chopsticks. It is like insulting the cook.
4. Don't put elbows on tables.
5. Don't talk with others with your mouth full.
6. Don't make any noise when you take soup.
