书面表达范文
Dear Tom,
Last Friday, I took part in the Coming-of-Age Ceremony in our school, which was quite a meaningful occasion in my life.
Formally dressed, we gathered at the school auditorium at 2 pm, waiting for the great moment to come. On the stage sat our beloved teachers and some parents.
At the beginning, our president and a parent delivered to us their congratulations and best wishes. We could feel both their love and expectations. Then two students, representing us, expressed our gratitude and determination to take on responsibilities.
The most moving moment came when we were given the letters from parents. Tears rolled down my face as I read, recalling each memorable moment in my life and feeling the ever-lasting love from my parents.
At the end of the ceremony, all of us promised to try our best, not only for ourselves as adults, but also for our families and our society.
The Coming-of-Age ceremony, for me, is more than a ceremony; it is instructive lesson.
That’s what we did on this special occasion. Do you have similar events in the USA Please let me know if you do.
Yours,
Li ua西安市第一中学

So I was here, at my grandmother's house. I turned in a slow circle. Everything was pale wood and very clean. Nothing was out of place. Through the porch doors I could see the ya rd slope down to a line of trees. It was quiet except for the tick of the clock somewhere. I was alone. I was thousands of miles away from everyone that I knew. I pressed my hands against my cheeks and felt my eyes starting to tear.
The voice of Mrs. Prettyman, my art teacher, said in my head,“Make the most of it.”I sat up straight.“Keep painting,”my mother's voice came into my ears. I wiped my eyes and stood. I had my own space to do my own things. There was nothing I could do about it except to make it good. I picked up my things and went into my room.
Soon I had all my clothes put away in the dresser and closet. On top of the dresser I put the pictures of me and my friends, along with the travel journal I had been keeping. I found some tape in one of the kitchen drawers and used it to stick Mrs.Prettyman's poster up on the wall from the bed. Around it I taped my mother's for my new work. I wasn't sure where I'd put my canvases(画布) yet. I'd have to get some sort of makeshift easel. I settled down on the floor with that and my paint kit.
As I continued to work on the drawing. I left my paint kit open beside me, just so that I could see the tubes of oils and acrylics—some wrinkled and pinched, other smooth and brand-new---the fat and skinny brushes, the soft colors of the water paints. With all of these familiar things around me,I started to feel less homesick.
I was putting the final details into the sketch when I noticed that the room had grown considerably darker and that the sunlight hitting the wall by the dresser was now bright orange. I set my sketch pat aside and went to the window. On this side of the house, the land ran down to a small stream and all around were trees, full and green. The sun was a giant crimson ball that hung low in the distance. It seemed farther away here than at home, as if the sky were bigger. It was strange not to see any houses in the near distance. A chill came over, though it wasn't a bad chill.
“So you decide to ruin my wall ”
I jumped and turned around.
Obasan(grandmother) stood in the doorway, pointing at the poster and photos on the wall. Her face was in shadow, so I couldn't see her expression.
“They're not ruining the wall, Obasan. It's just tape.”
“You think tape doesn't ruin the wall It tears off the paint, it leaves marks,”she stepped into the room.“And what is that ”
She was peering into my paint kit.“Oh, no,”I thought,“I should have hidden it.”
Before I could answer she said,“Did you think you could paint in this room ”
“I wasn't painting, Obasan. I was just...”
“Put the things away. I do not want to see any of them. And take those things off my wall. Immediately.”She turned and disappeared into the darkness of the hall.
I slumped onto the floor. I wanted to ask Mrs. Prettyman and my mother,“How could I make the most of it ”

Imagine being asked to spend twelve or so years of your life in a society which consisted only of members of your own sex. How would you react Unless there was something definitely wrong with you, you wouldn't be too happy about it, to say the least. It is all the more surprising therefore that so many parents in the world choose to impose such abnormal conditions on their children, conditions which they themselves wouldn't put up with for one minute!
Any discussion of this topic is bound to question the aims of education. Stuffing children's heads full of knowledge is far from being foremost among them. One of the chief aims of education is to equip future citizens with all they require to take their place in adult society.
Anyone entering adult society after years of segregation can only be in for a shock. A co-educational school offers children nothing less than a true version of society in miniature. Boys and girls are given the opportunity to get to know each other, to learn to live together from their earliest years. They are put in a position where they can compare themselves with each other in terms of academic ability, athletic achievement and many of the extra-curricular activities which are part of school life.
In a co-educational school, everything falls into its proper place. But perhaps the greatest contribution of co-educational is the healthy attitude to life it encourages.Boys don't grow up believing that women are mysterious creatures, fairy goddesses, more like book-illustrations to a fairy-tale, than human beings. Girls don't grow up imagining that men are romantic heroes.
Years of living together at school dispel illusions of this kind. There are no goddesses with freckles, pigtails, piercing voices and inky fingers. There are no romantic heroes with knobbly knees, dirty fingernails and untidy hair.
Segregated schools sometimes provide the right conditions for sexual deviation. This is hardly possible under a co-educational system. When the time comes for thepupils to leave school, they are fully prepared to enter society as well-adjusted adults.
28. What is the best title for this passage
A. Only Co-Education Should Exist.
B. People Are in Great Need of Co-Education.
C. Co-Education Best Prepares Students for Society.
D. Co-Education Has Many Features.
29. What does co-education offer to children
A. A society. B. A true small model of society.
C. An imaginary life. D. A different version of social condition.
30. According to the passage, what is one of the chief aims of education
A. It is for students to acquire knowledge.
B. It is to equip future citizens with scientific technology.
C. It is to equip future citizens with what is required in getting a position in society.
D. It is for students to get academic achievements.
31. Why do boys and girls in co-educational have no illusion about each other
A. They live together and know each other too well.
B. Years spent together at school dismiss such illusion.
C. Co-education encourages them to have an health y attitude toward life.
D. They are familiar with each other's problems.
D
The Psychology of Innovation
--Why Are So Few Companies Truly Innovative
For Robert Cialdini, Professor of Psychology at Arizona State University, one reason companies don't succeed is that innovation starts with recruitment. Research shows that the fit between an employee’s values and a company’s values makes a difference to whether they'll stay at the company.
One famous photograph in the story of rock'n'roll emphasizes Cialdini's views. The 1956 picture of singers Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis jamming at a piano in Sun Studios in Memphis tells a hidden story. Sun's“million-dollar quartet”could have been a quintet(五重唱). Missing from the picture is Roy Orbison, a greater natural singer than Lewis, Perkins or Cash. The four instinctively understood the Studio owner's ambition and believed in it. Orbison wasn't inspired by the goal, and only ever achieved one hit with the Sun label.
Cialdini believes that the“follow-the-leader syndrome”is dangerous.“It's been scientifically proven that three people will be better than one at solving problems, even if that person is the smartest.”Cialdini cites an interview with James Watson, who, together with Francis Crick, discovered the structure of DNA.“He said they had cracked the code ahead of some accomplished rivals because they were aware that they weren't the most intelligent ones pursuing the answer. The smartest scientist was Rosalind Franklin who, Watson said,‘was so smart she rarely sought advice.’”
Writing, visualizing and prototyping can stimulate the flow of new ideas. Even something as simple as writing deepens every individual's engagement in the project. It accounts for why all those competitions on breakfast cereal packets encouraged us to write in saying, in no more than 10 words: “I like Kellogg’s Com Flakes because…”The very act of writing makes us more likely to believe it.
Authority often inhibits innovation. The wrong kind of leadership will lead to what Cialdini calls“captainitis, the regrettable tendency of team members to opt out of team responsibilities that are properly their.”He calls it captainitis because, he says,“crew members of multi-pilot aircraft exhibit a sometimes deadly passivity when the flight captain makes a clearly wrong-headed decision”. This behavior is not, he says, unique to air travel, but can happen in any workplace where the leader is authoritative.
Leaders should encourage everyone to contribute and meanwhile assure all concerned that every recommendation will be given full attention. The frustrating thing is that there are many approaches, but no magic formula. However, a manager who wants to create a truly innovative culture can make their job a lot easier by recognizing realities.
32. The example of the“million-dollar quarter”emphasizes the writer's point about .
A. recognizing talent B. working as a team
C. having a shard objective D. being an effective leader
33. James Watson suggests that he and his partner won the race to discover the DNA code because they .
A. were conscious of their own limitations
B. brought complementary skills to their partnership
C. were determined to outperform their brighter rivals
D. encouraged each other to realize their joint ambition
34. The writer mentions competitions on breakfast cereal packets as an example of how to .
A. inspire creative thinking B. generate brief writing
C. promote loyalty to a group D. strengthen commitment to an idea
35. Which of the following is not in agreement with the writer's view
A. Employees sharing the same values with their employers are more likely to remain in their jobs.
B. Employers should make their staff feel their contributions are valued.
C. People working under a dominant boss tend to ignore their duties.
D. Teams work best when their members are of equally matched intelligence.
