本板块围绕单元话题“饮食文化”，首先阅读一篇文章了解面条的历史，再通过角色扮演，进一步了解中国面条的相关知识。紧接着听听力去接触名人的食物之旅，完成听力任务。最后根据已学习的食物文化知识，完成一篇作文。
教学目标：

教学过程：
Step 1 Lead-in
Watch a video about a foreigner eating noodles in China, thus introducing the topic.
Step 2 Reading
A1: People all over the world eat different kinds of noodles. Read the magazine article about the history of noodles and answer the questions below.

“Archaeologists” are people who study the cultures of the past and certain periods of history by examining the remains of buildings and objects found in the ground.

Step 3 Role-play
A2: In pairs, role-play a conversation between a Chinese student and an exchanging student who wants to try different kinds of Chinese noodles in a food court. Use the example below to help you and pay attention to the expressions in bold.
A: Wow, this food court is really big. Can you recommend me a typical Chinese noodle dish
B: There are many kinds of noodles to choose from. Over here, you can get a famous dish from the north-western part of China—it’s called Lanzhou lamian. As you can see, there are hand-pulled noodles in a rich beef soup.
A: That looks delicious—the color of the soup is really appetizing!
B: There are some mouth-watering fried rice noodles over here. This dish is called chao mixian. It’s from Yunnan, in the south-west of China. These rice noodles are quite chewy.
A: It’s going to be really hard to choose what to eat. What are those wide noodles over there
B: That’s a dish called liangpi. It’s a kind of cold noodles made from flour. It’s a speciality of Shaanxi Province.
A: I see. The sauce looks too spicy for me, though.
B: Yes, and the flavour is quite acid as well. It contains lots of vinegar. Maybe you should try these Shanghai-style cold noodles in a sweet and creamy peanut sauce. It’s a light dish, perfect for a hot day like this.
A: Good idea. I’ll try it!

My dream restaurant
I would like to open a pizza restaurant in an attractive location in the city centre. The idea place would be by the riverside. There are a number of restaurants there, but none that sells pizza. Many office buildings are located in the area, and it is also a popular shopping district, which means that the restaurant will have a steady flow of customers.
The target customers are office workers on weekdays and families during the weekends. The restaurant needs to be suitable for both groups, so the atmosphere should be relaxed and friendly. It would be appropriate to use bright warm colours and to put up pictures of the Mediterranean on the wall. The furniture should be simple, and it needs to be convenient for families with small children. If possible, the restaurant should have outdoor seating to attract more customers in spring and summer.
The menu will consist of a variety of food. Besides pizza, there will be some pasta dishes as well as finger food, such as chicken wings and onion rings. There will also be one or two Chinese dishes on the menu for those customers who do not like pizza.
What is special about this restaurant is that it will serve delicious, Italian-style pizza. The customers will be able to choose from a wide variety of high-quality ingredients, especially different kinds of Italian cheese.
