Caught in a flood
(Part II)
After a brief discussion, Mum and Dad made a decision.
They decided to stay in the house. They thought it would be really dangerous to try to walk through the water to get to higher ground.“Mary, we’ll have to go upstairs and wait there,” said Mum.“OK, Mum. If that’s what you think is best,” Mary replied uncertainly. So they went upstairs and waited. Downstairs, water flooding into the living room and kitchen. All three of them were nervous, but at least they had disaster supplies, including food and drinking water.

Finally, the rain stopped. However, Mary and her family could not leave while the house was still flooded. They listened to the radio and learnt that rescue workers were coming to rescue people who were trapped in their homes. To their relief, rescue workers and volunteers arrived at their house in a boat, helping them get out of the flooded house. Their home had been badly damaged, but they were all happy to be alive. It was joint efforts and selfless love that helped them survive in the disaster.

Caught in a flood
(Part II)
After a brief discussion, Mum and Dad decided they should stay in the house. Night had fallen. It rained harder and harder, the wind still blowing. To make matters worse, the electricity was off. Faced with the sudden darkness, Mary let out a scream, full of fear. The door started to shake and water flowed into the room. Dad took out the flashlight prepared in advance, and ordered, “Quick! Go upstairs!” By the light of the flashlight, they rushed up to the second floor. They didn’t dare to sleep all that night, comforting and encouraging each other.

Finally, the rain stopped. The morning dawned fresh and clear. They breathed a sigh of relief. However, damaged by the terrible flood, the room was in a mess. Dad turned on the radio again to listen to the latest news of the flood. Noises began outside and Mary approached the window. She saw many volunteers outside the window, who were busy helping her neighbors. Soon, several volunteers came to Mary’s house and asked if they needed assistance. Merciless as the flood was, there was still love in the world.
