Hello, I am Kevin. Today I want to share my experience at home alone. Four years ago, when I was a boy of 11, I got into the biggest trouble as a kid. It was Saturday morning. Both my parents were out, leaving me and my 10 month-old sister home alone.
Since my sister was still asleep in her room, I had no one to play with myself. So I decided to do some drawing. Soon I gave up. Then I turned on the TV and there was nothing on it, so I felt bored and touched the candles on the shelf. I had an idea! What would happen if I set fire to some kitchen paper
Well, of course it went on fire, and it was getting bigger and bigger, but I couldn’t blow it out. I was very frightened. I threw it on the floor, and then I got my dad’s shoes and stamped it out(扑灭).
But there was a huge hole left on the floor. When my mum came home later she smelt the smoke immediately. Luckily, she dropped the shopping bag over the hole. I thought this meant she would never see it. However, after running round the house to check for a fire, she of course picked up the bag and saw the hole.
At last, I was grounded(关禁闭) for hours. Even worse though, the hole was still there. Now it still reminds(想) me of what I did. And my parents realise that they shouldn’t leave us home alone when they go out.

Kids are on their phones more than ever. A study of 19 European countries found 80% of children aged 9 to 16 go online daily, or almost daily. And the average length of time children and young people spend on their devices has been increasing in recent years. The trends have become more noticeable because of lockdowns: 79% of UK parents reported their children’s screen time was up post-pandemic.
Parents of children to teenagers around the world told the Guardian about their children’s relationship with screens. While many were pleased with their children’s smartphone use, most said they were unhappy with the time they spent online and the effect they believed it was having on their moods and health.
Steve, a parent of two teenage boys, 13 and 15, in the Netherlands, is among them. While he was worried about his sons’ phone using time, the 54-year-old wondered how to solve it. “One can’t refuse the kids to have a smartphone, not only because technology has become a basic part of modern life, but because it’s become part of how they communicate with their peers,” said Steve.
Parents told us about a number of tools they relied on. While some parents adopt a laissez-faire (放任) attitude, and others the “prevention is the best medicine” method, most found themselves somewhere in the middle, setting rules like “no screens at night”. While some chose to take away devices, others tried more peaceful methods.

The world according to cats is very different from the one we travel through. To walk in a cat’s paws, we first need to understand how a cat experiences the world. Although cats use the same senses as humans—sight, sound, smell and touch—they use them quite differently.
Sight
It seems that cats can move in the darkness easily. However, many cats are more likely to be active and hunt at dawn and dusk. Cats see the world less colourful than humans which also influences their eyesight. What cats can see from 20 feet away, we can see at 100 feet.
Sound
A cat’s triangle-shaped ears act like small satellite dishes. Their ears can turn forward, backward, and sideways which allows them to locate sound in just six-hundredths of a second from up to three feet away and even identify slight differences in sounds. Their hearing is far more capable than humans and even dogs.
Smell
Smell, unlike the other four senses, is fully developed in a newborn kitten. Experts believe that a cat’s sense of smell is about 14 times better than ours. Cats have up to 200 million special cells that detect smells, compared with our only five million.
Touch
Cats really depend on whiskers (胡须). They are longer and thicker than normal cat hair, which are as useful as human fingertips. Whiskers detect air movements that can show the presence of menaces and prevent them from getting hurt.

A.To live with cats. B.To know how cats sense the world.
C.To behave like cats. D.To have the same experiences as cats.

A.They practice their ears a lot. B.Their ears have special shapes.
C.They know to work with humans. D.Their ears can face to different sides.
29.What is special about cats’ smell ability compared with other senses
A.It is the most useful sense. B.It is gained when cats are born.
C.It develops in their middle age. D.It is stronger in cats’ childhood.

Imagine taking a photo of an apple on the moon with your smartphone. It seems impossible, right But that’s what it was like for scientists to take a photo of a black hole in space. In face of so many challenges, scientists have finally got the first photo of a black hole(洞).
Black holes are one of the most mysterious things in the universe. Physicist Albert Einstein first explained black holes in 1915 with his general theory of relativity(广义相对论).
According to Einstein’s theory, a black hole comes from a dying star. The star falls into a small point with a lot of strong gravity. The strong gravity of the black hole allows it to pull other things in and “eat” them. Not even light can escape a black hole.
The photo proves Einstein was right. It makes the general theory of relativity—one of the most important theories about the universe—more believable.
Although they are mysterious, it is likely that black holes are actually quite common. Scientists believe that every large galaxy has a big black hole at its center—the one in our galaxy(星系)is called Sagittarius A.
Scientists are continuing to study the black hole in the photo. “One of the things I’m most interested in is seeing how these images might change over time,” said Gregory Sivakoff, one of the scientists who helped to capture the photo. According to him, studying the black hole might help us solve bigger puzzles about the universe.

45.Paragraph 3 is mainly about ________.
A.Einstein’s theory of the black hole

46.Why will scientists continue to study the black hole
A.It’s amazing to see the image over times.

What comes to mind when you hear the phrase “space meat” It sounds quite weird. But in fact it could be the future of the human diet.
A Russian astronaut recently “grew” meat aboard the International Space Station. Yes, you read that right—he grew it using cells (细胞) provided by an Israeli company called Aleph Farms. But in fact, he was not the first person to create lab-grown (实验室培育的) meat. Dutch scientist Mark Post grew the first lab meat in 2013.
But why bother growing meat in a lab when we can get the real thing from cows For one thing, lab-grown meat is healthier. “We gain greater control over what the meat consist of such as its fat content (脂肪含量).” Mark Post said in an interview. Lab-grown meat is also free of the chemicals that are used on farms, such as pesticides (农药) and growth hormones (激素).
Are there other ways to replace regular meat McDonald is trying to do so with the P.L.T., which stands for plant, lettuce (生菜) and tomato. The first P.L.T burgers are already being sold in Canada according to the fast food company.
The “meat” in the P.L.T. is made out of Beyond Meata plant-based meat substitute (替代品) created by a company from Los Angels, US. The company uses pea, rice and bean proteins (蛋白质) to produce patties (肉饼) that look and taste like real meat.

Everyone needs friends. There is an old saying, “Friends are God’s way of taking care of us.” But how do you find real friendship and keep it
The American writer Sally Seamans tells young students some smart ways to find friends. Sally says finding friendship is just like planting a tree. You plant the seed (种子) and take care of it to make it grow.
First, you should choose a friend. What makes a good friend It is not because a person has money or good looks. A good friend should be kind and patient. For example, if you have a bad day, a good friend should listen to your complaints and do his or her best to help. To make a friend, you cannot be too shy. You should make each other happy and share your lives.
But things cannot always be happy. Even the best friends have fights(吵架). What should you do when you have a fight with your friend You have to talk to him or her. When there is no one around, have an honest talk. If he or she doesn’t want to talk, you could write a letter. There are three steps to being friends again:
