A 17-year-old Bangladeshi boy has won this year’s International Children’s Peace Prize for his work to fight cyberbullying in his country. The prize winner, Sadat Rahman, promised to keep fighting online abuse until it no longer exists.
“The fight against cyberbullying is like a war, and in this war I am a warrior,” Sadat Rahman said during a ceremony on November 13 in The Hague, the Netherlands. He added, “If everybody keeps supporting me, then together we will win this battle against cyberbullying.”
Rahman developed a mobile phone application that provides education about online bullying and a way to report cases of it. He began his work on the project after hearing the story of a 15-year-old girl who took her own life as a result of cyberbullying. “I will not stop until we receive no more cases through the app,” Rahman said at the ceremony. Family vlogging — the frequent recording and uploading of personal videos of the family, usually on video sharing website — has become big business nowadays, especially among parents of young children. The more viewers such videos can get, the more money the family can make. At first thought, it does seem like an easy way to make money. However, are we doing right by putting their lives up for public attention
For one thing, as the children grow up, they increasingly become aware that what they do needs to be admirable enough for the public to enjoy — Being young children, they also would want to do whatever it takes to please others. They then feel the pressure to be perfect, and as that is something not always possible, they become anxious and ments from viewers and the expectations of sponsors (赞助者) can also affect the parents’ reactions towards their children.
Another problem is the lack of privacy in the children’s lives. As the children reach adolescence, there is a greater need for personal space. At 12 or 13, very few children would appreciate being filmed while eating or having a conversation with their friends. Teenhood is a time of significant change in an individual, both physically and emotionally, and is a time when parents need to protect their children and guide them, instead of exposing them to the eyes of the public.
Family vlogging can be irresistible, given how it allows parents to bring greater fun to their family lives. There is also the easy money and the fame to look forward to. Indeed, all would probably go well, but only as long as parents keep in mind that, if not managed well, making their children live their lives in the unforgiving eyes of the public could prove to be a big mistake.
28.How does vlogging about children’s lives influence the family
A.Children will get used to public attention.
B.Children may suffer from too much pressure.
C.Parents may show no concern for their children.
D.Parents become addicted to exposing their children to the public.
29.How does the writer mainly develop his argument
A.By providing examples B.By listing numbers
C.By making comparisons D.By analyzing causes
30.What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the text
A.To introduce a new big business
B.To show how vlogging influence people’s lives.
C.To persuade parents to watch out for comments from viewers.
D.To convince parents of the danger of vlogging about children’s lives.
31.What’s the writer’s attitude to vlogging about children’s lives
A.negative B.positive C.objective D.uninterested
D
English history is vast, from its rule under the Romans to the rise, heights and decline of the British Empire. When choosing a book to recommend on my country’s history, I wanted something that could summarize this sweeping history but didn’t get stuck in the details of things that hold me back from thoroughly engaging with this truly rich history. Then, I found Dominic Haynes’ A Brief History of England. It had just what I was looking for and was a real joy to read.
The book is a whistle-stop tour through the whole of English history, from its earliest people to the movement of settlers from Europe. It looks at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, Elizabeth I’s rule and the lasting impact of Shakespeare. Then it touches on the English Civil Wars and the shift of rule from kings and queens to the parliament (议会) running the country and the establishment of the political parties of the Whigs (辉格党) and Tories (托利党) still functioning today in some form as the currently ruling Conservative Party (保守党). It also covers the Napoleonic Wars and the world wars and even reflects upon England’s post-Brexit (脱欧后的) present and future.
This really is quite the sweeping tome. However, it’s very short. This means it’s easy to navigate and get a hold of a huge amount of history, but it also means it’s very light on the details. At times, this can be frustrating, as there are parts where it feels like just another paragraph or page would really elevate this book. But for an introduction to English history or perhaps a reminder or refresher, it’s great and particularly useful as it is likely to fill in some gaps in your knowledge.
Furthermore, because of the pace of the book, there’s not a dull moment. It’s a real page-turner, covering the shifts of kings and queens, wars, famines (饥荒) and changes in the social order of the country at home and the country’s influence across the world.
One reviewer on Amazon described the book as “a small masterpiece”, and said, “This is a great book for anyone who wants to get a crash course in English history or for those who want a quick reference to that subject.”
So, jump in, dear readers, and get a hold of what made England what it was, what it went on to be, and where it may stand in our global future.
32.What is the main focus of Dominic Haynes’ A Brief History of England
A.Detailed exploration of England’s political parties.
B.An introduction to the British Empire’s rise and fall.
C.A brief overview of England’s historical shifts and events.
D.In-depth analysis of England’s post-Brexit policies.
33.What is a weakness mentioned by the reviewer regarding the book
A.Its pace is slow and frustrating.
B.There’s a shortage of information on wars.
C.It dives too deeply into political complexities.
D.It lacks detailed information due to its shortness.
34.What does the underlined word “page-turner” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A.A book that is exciting to read. B.A book that has lots of pages to turn.
C.A book that is easy to understand. D.A book that is complicated.
35.What might be the best title for the text
A.Jump into the UK’s past.
B.The rises and falls of the UK.
C.The significance of studying the UK’s history.
D.The UK, you always live in people’s hearts.

ZHAO ZHIZHONG, a professor of geography at Hainan Normal University, recently proposed to make the law and forbid pupils below the age of 16 to use smartphones. Beijing Youth Daily comments:
With the prosperity of the economy, many families choose to buy a smartphone for their children at school to search for materials and assist in studying. 36 .
In and out of class, the pupils have smartphones in their hands. 37 . While enjoying their lunch, they hold them in their hands. Even on the bed before sleeping, they hold one in their hands.
It seems the heavy addiction to smartphones is affecting ever more pupils at young ages. 38 . The addiction to smartphones, which is popular among pupils, is a problem that affects them in many aspects. It distracts them from their academic studies and prevents them from talking with each other. That’s why quite many people agree to limit the use of smartphones among pupils. That’s also why Zhao’s proposal got quite a wide welcome among the public.
39 . This is because smartphones, if used well, do play a key role in helping the pupils get wider access to the outside world and broaden their horizon. Besides, the school might not have the power to forbid pupils from using their own properties that do not pose harm to others.
There are certain countries that limit pupils from using smartphones in class but allow them to use them after it. 40 . But that can offer some food for thought.
A.While walking, they hold them in their hands.
B.So a flexible ban can be considered to avoid the trouble.
C.They, just like their parents, have become enslaved by smartphones.
D.However, it remains doubtful whether a simple ban is proper.
E.Perhaps a child model for smartphones can also be introduced.
F.The actual effect remains to be seen.
G.In fact, when children get their smartphones, the situation is different.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I could feel the excitement rising in me as I held the beautifully wrapped present in my hands. I felt the string of the package softly and then, unable to contain my curiosity any longer, I tore it open. It was a bright, brand new laptop. I had scored straight As for my O-level examination and this was my reward. I had always envied my friends who were exchanging news about ‘chat rooms’, ‘instant messaging’ and ‘e-mailing’, all of which I knew nothing about. Now I was going to find out.
It started out simply enough. I was searching for some information online when I came across a social networking site. Soon I became attracted to my new-found electronic friend. I began to spend more and more time on YouTube and became addicted to Facebook and Twitter. I had never imagined that the day would come when I would be controlled entirely by the glowing screen before me. Whenever I was not glued to these social networking sites, I would be going through gossip or fashion websites.
As time passed, I realized that I was addicted to the Internet. During weekends, when I had more time on my hands, I could easily spend a few hours on my laptop. It came to a point where I chose to lock myself in my room, refusing to come out and take part in family discussions. I preferred to stay connected to the people I made friends with on the Internet although I had never met them. Soon I was spending the whole hours of the morning surfing on the Internet. Sleep was reduced to small naps and my grades at school also began getting from bad to worse.

Dear Smith,
How’s everything going Knowing that you are fascinated by my hometown, I am extremely delighted to extend an invitation to you to pay a visit to it. Here are some details concerning it.
Located in the eastern part of Hainan province, my hometown, Wanning, is a small city surrounded by seas, with mild and pleasant weather. There is a national park in our city, where a crowd of rolling hills expand further, dotted with sheep and cattle grazing grass leisurely. My hometown is also famous for its delicious sea food. Once you have a taste of it, you will never forget it.
Welcome to my hometown. I would be more than glad to be your guide to show you around.
Yours Sincerely,
Li Hua
【读后续写Sample version:】
It was about this time that my parents noticed my change. They voiced their disapproval. It became obvious to them that I was spending too much time on the Internet. I was asked to slow down my usage of the Internet. Yet, however hard I tried, I was unable to pull myself away, unable to end my chat sessions, and unable to concentrate on my lessons. I was desperate for just another click, just another look at my e-mail or message board.
Then one day, my father took away my laptop. I cried and objected but in vain. Dad had made up his mind. Over time, I realized that Dad and Mum had always wanted the best for me. That was when I decided to take the big step — to conquer my internet addiction. Quitting was harder than I had expected. But with dogged determination, I knew that I would be able to do it. I promised my parents that I would turn over a new leaf.

W: There are still a few minutes left till ten.
M: I’ve heard that there’s real shortage of dorm space this year.
W: How come The student body doesn’t increase, I think.
M: They pulled down Dormitory Ato put up a new one---but it won’t be finished until the end of December.
W: Too bad. I wouldn’t want to live outside the campus anyway, though. It’s so cheap and convenient to live right here.
M: Yeah. But we could share the money for an apartment--- and think of the parties we could throw! You can’t have a real party in a dorm room.
W: Yeah. That’s very good. Let’s keep our eyes open for a place outside school for next year, then.

【原文】Everybody, attention please. This is your captain speaking. I have something urgent to tell you. We have to change our direction due to a storm up ahead about fifty miles away. We were hoping to get to Miami by 7:00 p.m., but the storm started moving faster than we had thought. We just can’t take any chances, so we’ll have to stop in Havana City and continue on tomorrow morning. There is also a chance that the storm will move closer to us, and we might experience some strong wind and rain. We know it seems nice and calm now, but that could change at any minute. For this reason, we need everyone to leave the deck and walk to your rooms at once. This is for your own safety. Do not run; we don’t want anyone getting hurt. Please don’t worry. We’ve done this trip from Mexico City hundreds of times, so you’re in good hands. If you need help, please look for our staff or dial 811 on the phone in your room.
