U2 Reading: Choosing a film①
Good afternoon, dear teachers. I have been ready to begin my teaching plan with six parts. They are :analysis of the teaching material, the teaching target, the teaching objectives, the key and difficult points, the teaching methods, and the teaching procedures.
First, I’ll talk about the teaching material.
Part 1 Teaching Material
The content of my lesson comes from Oxford English Edition 7B Module 1 Unit 2 Reading: Choosing a film. The topic of this unit is ‘Going to see a film’. This lesson is the first period, which contains the dialogue among Kitty, Peter and Jill. In this period, the students will learn different types of films and they are expected to consolidate reading skills of predicting, skimming and scanning with the help of the dialogue. As we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning. The input has a great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. Therefore, this lesson plays an important role in this unit.
As for my teaching target , They are from Class One, Grade Seven.
Part 2 Teaching Target
In my class, the students are creative and energetic. They are familiar with the topic of this unit and they have got some basic information about the films. But they may have some trouble in telling the names of the film in English and finding out the type of the film. As for the grammar, the students have learnt the sentence patterns ‘So ...’ and ‘Neither...’ in 7A. But they may have some difficulty in using them correctly. More importantly, they’re afraid to make mistakes and express their ideas in English.
So I’m trying different ways to encourage them to express their ideas actively and bravely.
Then comes to my teaching objectives.
Part 3 Teaching Objectives
Based on the new standard curriculum and the syllabus, and the teaching material, I set three teaching objectives. The first one is the knowledge objective , students will understand … // And the second one is the ability objective…// the third one is …
By the end of this lesson, Ss are expected to:
1. understand some new words and phrases about films, such as: a film guide, action, adventure and so on;
2.get some specific information about different types of films and find out the reasons for people’s choices by using the reading skills ,such as predicting, skimming, and scanning the dialogue and pictures.
3.know how to express their preference about different kinds of films and learn to enjoy the life by appreciating different reports of films.
Of course, there are still some key and difficult points in my teaching plan.
Part 4 the Key and Difficult Points
The key points in this lesson is finding out reasons for people’s choices and grasping the usage and function of some sentence patterns.
The difficult point is making a report on his/her favorite film, especially how to make a brief introduction about the film.
In order to achieve my teaching objectives and solve the key and difficult points, I will use some teaching methods.
Part 5 Teaching Methods
As we all know, a good teaching method not only help Ss develop a good sense of English, but also help them overcome difficulty. In this lesson, my teaching methods include communicative teaching method, and task-based teaching method. Besides, I’ll use a multi-media computer, blackboard , and some modern teaching facilities as the teaching aids, because they not only help to attract students’ interest but also improve the teaching result. More importantly, they can also make the Ss have a better understanding of the text and make the class lively and interesting.
Now, Let’s move to the most important part—my teaching procedure, it includes four steps.
Part 6 Teaching Procedure
Step 1 Lead-in
Enjoy a presentation about the film-Heidi and Grandpa.
Purpose: To lead in the topic today and attract their interest.
(设计意图:导入话题,调动学生积极性。)
Step 2 Pre-reading is made up of two stages.
Look and learn: Look at the pictures of different films and learn different types of films.
Look and compete: Look at the pictures and tell its kind as rapidly as possible.
Purpose: To brainstorm different types of films and check their understanding.
(设计意图:进行头脑风暴,了解不同的电影类型且同时扫清生词障碍;再通过竞赛,检测学生对不同电影类型的掌握情况。)
Step 3 While-reading includes seven stages.
(1). Look and predict: Look at the picture and predict:
1) What are they doing
2) What are they going to do
Purpose: To help students predict the main idea of the dialogue according to the picture.
(设计意图:引导学生学会读图,进行合理预测。)
(2) Read and judge: Read the introduction on page nine, and judge if the predictions are true or false.
Purpose: To help students find out the main idea of the dialogue.
(设计意图:通过略读获取文章大意,掌握略读技巧。)
Read and tick: Read the dialogue on page 9 and tick out the films they are talking about.
Read and match: Read the dialogue again and match the films with its correct type.
Purpose: To guide students to find out the names and types of the films by reading the dialogue.
(设计意图:指导学生理清不同的电影类型。)
Read and fill in the table: Read the dialogue and find out their likes and dislikes.
Read and find out the reasons: Read and find out their reasons for their choices.
Purpose: To guide students to find out their preference and the reasons for their different choices.
(设计意图:引导学生利用精读技巧查找细节信息,同时了解不同人喜好不同的原因。)
Read after the recording.
Purpose: To practice students’ pronunciation.
(设计意图:训练学生的发音。)
Step 4 Post-reading is made up of two stages.
(1) Group work: Work in groups and make a dialogue
Purpose: To encourage students to express their preference bravely and develop students’ confidence by training their spoken English.
(设计意图:帮助学生熟悉对话内容,并且通过训练口语培养他们的自信。)
(2) Think and report: Think about your favorite film and make a report.
Purpose: To consolidate what they’ve learned and encourage them to express their preference about the films.
(设计意图:将所学运用于实际生活中。)
Considering different levels of students, I design the following homework…
Homework
1.Finish the exercises on page7, workbook.( for all students)
2.Make an introduction about the favorite kind of film. (for top students)
3.Recite the dialogue and act out in groups. (for poor students)
Purpose: Homework is so important and necessary for Ss to consolidate the knowledge they’ve learned in class.
