本课时的主题语境围绕英式英语和美式英语的差异及其澄清误解展开,通过介绍英式英语和美式英语的区别,学习一系列英式英语和美式英语的差异表达,重点表达主要涉及澄清误解等话题,如I beg your pardon. Would you mind repeating… 等。本文的价值取向在于学生通过对比英式英语和美式英语,感受不同地域和文化下英语的不同,感受英语的魅力,增强英语学习兴趣。
教学策略与设计说明:
采用听说法(audio-lingual teaching),通过大量输入,反复操练句型结构,注重模仿、重复、记忆、理解,强化学生对相关语言表达形式及意义的理解,培养正确的语言习惯。
教学目标:
在本节课学习结束时,学生能够:
语言能力上,学习并掌握英式英语与美式英语的差异表达,如apartment, restroom, petrol, honour等 ,习得确认、询问表达方式的句型,如I beg your pardon. Would you mind repeating… 并能够运用这些句型询问意义。
思维品质上,对比英式英语和美式英语的差异,了解语言的形成和差异受地域和文化的影响,深化对语言的认识。
文化意识上,通过学习不同种类的英语,感受英语的魅力,增强英语学习魅力。
学习能力上,学会在对比中习得表达的能力,并且掌握确认意义和澄清误解的沟通能力。
教学重点:
掌握表达英式英语和美式英语的一系列差异表达方式,如apartment, restroom, petrol, honour等。
教学难点:
习得确认、询问表达方式的句型,如I beg your pardon. Would you mind repeating… 并能够运用这些句型询问意义。
教学资源:
教材、多媒体课件、黑板与粉笔。

Step 1 Warm up: T shows Ss two groups of words. One group is the vocabulary in Britain, and the other is that of America. Then, ask Ss to discriminate which group is the expressions used in Britain/America. 进一步让学生熟悉英美表达差异。 3’ CW
Step 2 Warm up – example T gives students examples for making them understand the differences in real situation. TESCO is a British supermarket, which uses “biscuits” words. Walmart is an American supermarket, which uses “cookies” words. Reminds Ss to find out and think about other differences they find in daily life. 将语言知识点与实际生活相结合,让学生加深语言运用和文化差异。 2’ CW
Step 3 Listen and tick: Listen to the first part of the talk. What are the different kinds of English mentioned Suggested answers: There are many different kinds of English around the world, British English, American English, Australian English and many others. 在听力活动中把握英语的种类 5’ IW
Step 4 Listen and think: Except the kinds of English mentioned in the talk, what other kinds of English do you know T should ask student to list other kinds of official dialects. If no students can ask the question, T can allow Ss to search other dialects on Internet. Suggested answers: Indian English… 对听力活动进行拓展补充,让学生进行发散思维思考其他英语种类。 3’ IW
Step 5 Listen and think: T asks Ss listen to the second part of the talk. What are the two pairs of words that the student is confused by Tick them in the boxes. Key words: 1.gas;gas bottle; gas explosion. 2. Petrol; run out of petrol. Subway. A subway station. Ride/take the subway. Apartment. 承接上两个活动,在对话中让学生理解英美表达差异,并熟悉如何澄清表达误区。 5’ GW/CW
Step 6 Look and think: Look at the pairs of words below. According to different ways, these differences can be divided into two groups: expression differences and spelling differences. T uses slide to show students the vocabulary columns. 依托书本上的活动,让学生再次对英式英语和美式英语进行区分。 4’ IW
Step 7 Look and think: T asks the question “Why are there many differences between British English and American English ” Ss can search or read paper to support their idea. T can give them the question as homework in advance, and lead them to think about the changes in environment and symbol of a “new” language etc. 引导学生思考产生差异的原因。学生根据对历史的理解、人文的判断给出原因。运用辩证思维,思考原因。 5’ IW
Step 8 Read and think: Read and role-play the conversation. What misunderstanding has happened After Ss finish reading, T can ask Ss to circle the sentence that reveal the misunderstanding. 在语境中让学生进一步熟悉澄清误会的句型。 5’ IW
Step 9 Ask for clarification: T leads Ss to consider which situation has misunderstand because of language differences. Examples: renting a house, restaurant, airport, school… Then, T asks Ss choose one or two pairs of words according to the situation they chose. Thirdly, T explains these sentence patterns to help Ss complete conversation. Lastly, T ought to select a team to give an example in front of crowds. 课堂学习的知识结合生活中实际情况,增加熟练和理解。让学生学会澄清的句型。 8’ GW
Step 10 Think and talk: T asks Ss: Which kind of English do you prefer Why Ask Ss to consider cultural reasons, origin, pronunciation, speed of speaking, tone Suggested answer: I prefer British English, because it sound more elegant. I prefer American English, because it’s casual enough. How can you learn an accent you like Give Ss some tips or topics. Ask them to answer question by using complete sentences. imitation dictation watching tv series listening to radio 让学生做出思考,更喜欢哪种,鼓励学生感受英文之美。 5’ GW
Step 11 Homework: Read p.64 passage in your favorite accent, and show yourself next time! 鼓励学生模仿喜欢的英语口音,并作出展示。 5’ CW
