Parrots(鹦鹉) are prey animals, which means that other predators (捕食者) in the wild, such as hawks or snakes, are looking to make them into a meal. This one factor influences parrots' behavior in your house more than any other.
Parrots are most easily hurt when feeding on the ground; membership in a group plays an important function in ensuring(确保) their safety and improving their chances of survival from attacks by predators. The most common predators of parrots include hawks, snakes, cats, monkeys, and bats. Some predators make attacks only during the day while others hunt in the night.
As prey animals, parrots are constantly watching out for danger and they instinctively (本能地) react to risks. Their first choice is to take flight. However, if this is not possible, they will fight with their powerful beaks to defend themselves.
Because their biggest enemy is the hawk, parrots are especially reactive to quick movements from above and behind. For this reason, it is wise to avoid quick, sudden movements near your bird. This is a built-in reaction not subject to logic or reason. Simple and relatively harmless household objects can draw extreme fear responses from a bird. For example, a balloon may represent a hawk or a vacuum hose (吸尘器软管) may be the same as a snake in your bird's mind.
As prey animals, parrots are often frightened by exposure to new household items or strangers. It is important to expose your bird to safe experiences and changes starting at a very young age to build flexibility and improve their adaptability. Variety in diet and toys, travel, and exposure to new people and places all help to make your bird more flexible and adaptable to change.
24. What is important for parrots to better survive from attacks in the wild
A. Living in a group. B. Growing beautiful feathers.
C. Feeding on the ground. D. Avoiding coming out at night.
25. What is parrots' first response to an immediate risk
A. To attack back. B. To get away.
C. To protect the young. D. To play dead.
26. Why would a balloon frighten a parrot
A. It may explode suddenly. B. It may be in a strange shape.
C. It may have a strong color. D. It may move around quickly.
27. What is the author's purpose of writing the text
A. To explain wild parrots' behavior. B. To give advice on raising a parrot.
C. To call for action to protect animals. D. To introduce a study on bird ecology.

Many people will never forget their campus life, for it gave them something important for their career. Even though it is very difficult nowadays to attend a college or university after graduating from high school, there are still a large number of reasons to go to college.
In general, college graduates make more money than people who only have a high school degree. Besides higher pay, college graduates also experience better jobs than those who haven’t graduated from college. Many employers expect their employees to have a college degree. College programs provide students with peculiar training that only higher education can offer, giving them popular and valuable qualifications(资格证书).
To deal with heavy college study, you have to be organized. Finishing several different classes is not an easy task, considering that each class covers plenty of materials. If you’re unable to stay organized, there are teachers, advisers and professors there to help you. The organization skills you’ll learn in college will help you succeed in future jobs. Whether you’re solving a math-based problem or make out the main idea of a novel, college classes train your brain to solve difficult problems and will prepare you for problems in the workplace.
Whether you grew up in a small town or in New York City, being admitted into a college or university means that you will meet a great number of new people. Your social skills will improve by communicating with them, which could help you when you enter into the job market. When you take part in classroom activities, study groups and school clubs, you are introduced to intelligent people with whom you could one day start a company or form a life-long friendship.
Study-abroad programs are offered by most colleges and universities and are seen as one of the most meaningful experiences offered during four years of college life. In addition to learning more about a foreign culture, students are required to complete their studies.
28. What does the underlined word “peculiar” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Special. B. Common.
C. Limited. D. Traditional.
29. What can we learn about the college degree
A. It is more important to rural students than urban students.
B. It makes you become employers in different fields.
C. It helps increase your earning power.
D. It is a must to become rich.
30. What is the third paragraph mainly about
A. The functions of organization and problem-solving skills in college.
B. The difficult problems and different organizations in college.
C. Heavy college study and work.
D. College classes and professors.
31. What can be inferred from the text
A. It is no use going to college or university.
B. College helps students improve their human relationship.
C. The aim of study-abroad is to help end students’ college classes.
D. Work experience is less important than a qualification in the job interview.
D
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work with zoo or aquarium animals Kylene, an animal care specialist from SeaWorld San Diego, cared for the African penguins(企鹅) at SeaWorld for many years.
Over the past several years, the South African penguins have been on the decrease in numbers. A hundred years ago, there were about 1 million African penguins, but since then their population has decreased to under 100,000. Scientists predict the population could fall as low as 50,000 over the next 20 years if we don't do anything.
Some scientists think the changing ocean temperatures have caused the penguins' food supply to disappear. Humans have also disturbed the penguins' wild habitat(栖息地) and collected their eggs. And humans have also been collecting guano (the waste passed from the sea birds' bodies), which can be added to the soil to make plants grow more successfully. As a result, humans damage their natural nest digging sites. Without the piles of guano the penguins used to build their nests, they've been forced to nest on open ground.
Some other scientists think the slight increase in air temperature on the islands has had an impact on the penguins' success rate of hatching their eggs. No matter what the reason is, South African penguin population is falling, and scientists need to find a way to stop the decline.
Working with other zoos in the country, Kylene did what she could to help protect the South African penguins. Through Kylene's efforts and the efforts of the people like her at many penguin conservation organisations in South Africa, these little penguins have a chance for a better tomorrow.
32.What has happened to the South African penguins over the past years
A.The penguin population has greatly declined.
B.They've begun to lose the habitat completely.
C.They have done great harm to the natural environment.
D.They have been hunted by humans for moneymaking.
33.What is the third paragraph mainly about
A.The importance of penguins' return.
B.The causes of penguins' decrease in numbers.
C.The efforts of some scientists.
D.The necessity of penguins' existence.
34.What is guano used for by humans
A.The food supply. B.The building materials.
C.The good shelter. D.The farming fertiliser(肥料).
35.What is the author's attitude towards the future of the South African penguins
A.Worried. B.Doubtful. C.Hopeful. D.Uncertain.

One possible version:
The next day, Michael took some of his father's tools and a piece of wood. He used the tools to make a wooden plate. His father saw him working and asked, “What are you making, Michael ” “I am making a wooden plate!” replied Michael. “A wooden plate! What for ” asked his father. “I am making it for you, Father. When you grow old and weak, like my grandfather, you will need a plate for food. A plate made from mud may be broken easily. Then I may scold you severely. So, I want to give you a wooden plate. It won't be broken so easily.”
The carpenter was pretty shocked to hear that. He realized his mistake. Robert's father was ever kind to Robert. He had looked after Robert very well. Now, he was old. Robert was treating his father badly. He was now very sad about his own behaviors. He decided to become a different person. From that day, Robert treated his father with great respect. He learned a lesson from his own son.

M: Hello, everyone. Welcome back to Story Time, and this week we’re going to talk about Margaret Fuller.
Margaret Fuller was born in 1810 in America. Up to the age of nine, her education was at home, with her father. Margaret was an excellent student. In fact, by the age of six, she was translating Latin poetry into English. By the age of ten, she was at school. And eventually, she became a teacher.
So, why did she become so well known Well, she had very strong opinions about the role of women and particularly about what jobs they could do. Margaret believed that a woman could do any job that a man could do.
Later, she became a journalist. She worked for the New York Tribune and became its first female editor. She also wrote reviews for it, as she was famous for having strong opinions about literature. Some of the reviews she wrote were very sharp. As a result, she was not always popular with novelists and poets of her time. Besides, she was interested in many different topics. For example, she wanted to change people’s attitudes to Native Americans and African Americans. She certainly tried to make the world a better place.
This is Tom, on 685 FM, saying good night.
