It was a cold, snowy evening. Tommy was running as fast as he could, focused on nothing but his destination --the shop on the street corner. Two weeks ago he saw figurines of Marvel superheroes on the shelves and felt he had to have one. He's been walking the neighbor's dog ever since then to earn money to realize his little dream. He was so excited and hardly noticing the world around him. Maybe that's why he tripped over the legs of a homeless woman, who was sitting on the sidewalk, her back against the wall. He murmured(低语)“sorry”and moved on to his destination.
Once he entered the shop, he went straight to the shelves with figurines. Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and many more - all of his admired heroes. With his heart pounding like crazy he reached for Spiderman.
“You like these, true believer ”
Tommy turned around. An old man was standing behind him with a wide smile on his face. “Y-yes ... Yes, they're awesome!” answered Tommy. “They're strong and fast and help other people a lot ...” the boy looked at figurines in admiration.

“I wish I could be a superhero too.”
“Then become one!” said the old man.
“How ” Tommy asked in surprise.
“I don't have any superpowers.”
“And why would you need them ” the old man smiled. Seeing the confusion on the boy's face, he squatted (蹲下)and put his hands on Tommy's arms. “Did you know, that shopkeeper lady over there has a disabled husband She's been working hard and taking care of him for years. I've never heard a word of complaint from her. And this person.. ."he pointed at a redhead man, who just entered the shop. “He's a firefighter; he's saved countless lives. He never gives up, no matter how dangerous the situation seems to be.”
The old man looked Tommy in the eyes and smiled. “You don't need a superpower to be a hero for someone else. The path of a superhero starts not in the mind, not in the muscles, but in the heart.”

His mind was haunted by the old man's words: “The path of a superhero starts in the heart.” Suddenly, with an idea igniting in Tommy’s mind, he lifted his eyes and inquired earnestly, “You mean I can be the superhero by help people in need ” The old man offered no verbal response, yet his beaming smile spoke volumes, affirming Tommy's question with silent reassurance. Tommy ducked his head and gazed at the Spiderman in his hand, pondering for a moment before gently placing it back on the shelf. Armed with resolve, he used his hard-earned money to purchase bread and water before striding out of the store without a backward glance.

He approached her cautiously, murmuring, “This is for you,” his voice tinged with a blend of tense and exhilaration. Startled, the old woman looked up, and within moments, her eyes welled up with tears as she accepted the food shakily. Before she could utter a word, Tommy had already dashed away into the bustling streets. All the way along, the image of the woman's face, etched with appreciation, replayed in Tommy's mind. With his first step on the path to becoming a superhero, Tommy discovered that it was much simpler than he had ever imagined.

Tommy lowered his head and looked at his shoes thinking intensely, The old man's words revealed something Tommy had never thought of- he himself had the power to be no less a superhero than those icons he looked up to. “But what should i do " murmured Tommy as his thoughtful gaze fell on his hard-earned money. Somehow, the homeless woman sitting on the sidewalk came floating out of his memory. In a minute, a superhero mission took shape. He swiveled around and headed towards the shelves on which were stacked piles of food and daily commodities. Having paid at the counter, Tommy, laden with shopping, made his way towards the lady, whose legs he had tripped over.(106w)
The homeless woman was right there, where he saw her last time. But it was this time that he really looked into her weathered face, bony and pale in the shadow of her unkempt hair. With some nervousness in his footsteps, he approached the woman, stooped to lay down the bag gently, and said, “These are for you." Her gaze, which had been fixed on the indifferent hustle of the street, now locked onto the boy smiling at her and offering a gesture of kindness. It took seconds for the fact that someone helped her to sink in, but as it did, tears began to shine in her eyes. “Thank you! You are my hero," she uttered, voice alive with gratitude and hope. it was such a worthwhile moment that Tommy wouldn't trade for the world.(128w)
