Picking the right hotel for your trip is very important for tourists in Athens as it’s a fairly sprawling city with a lot of different neighborhoods to choose from. To help you choose, here’s my list of the best hotels in Athens:
A.Athens Center Square Hotel
In Plaka, this hotel has a minimalist design with welcoming pastel colors throughout, and most rooms have a view of the Acropolis (雅典卫城). Rooms are simple but decently sized, with flat-screen TVs, desks, mini fridges, air conditioning. The delicious buffet breakfast is complimentary and quite expansive, featuring Greek and American cuisine. There’s also free coffee and tea in the lobby all day long.
B.Athensdot
This newer property is in Psyrri, has a cool, pop-art design throughout, with large scale drawings on the walls and bright bursts of red everywhere. Rooms vary from internal rooms with no window to rooms with a balcony and views of the Acropolis. While there’s no breakfast served at the property, there’s a cute 24-hour café just a few doors down that serves food at all hours.
C. Coco-Mat Hotel
This design-forward 4-star hotel, run by the mattress company Coco-Mat, is in the heart of Kolonaki, a quiet neighborhood renowned for its upscale boutiques and art galleries. All rooms are equipped with high-quality mattresses, and you can even choose your pillow from a menu with 12 different pillow types. There’s a fantastic Greek breakfast buffet in the mornings.
D.Plaka Hotel
Comfortable and friendly, Plaka Hotel is (you guessed it) in the heart of Plaka. You’ll find the majority of ruins and tourist attractions here. This simply decorated hotel boasts the starry scenery of the Acropolis from both in-room balconies and the rooftop terrace bar/restaurant. There’s also a complimentary (and huge) buffet breakfast featuring local specialties.

Jack was born without eyes. He was very lucky as he grew up having other kittens(young cats) to socialize with, and was used to people from the moment he was born. However, when it came time to find the kittens homes, no one knew where Jack would end up.
That's when I got an email from my friend. All she asked was “Do you still want one of the kittens There's one here with no eyes and no one would like to take him.” Without thinking, I told her that I did want the kitten.
When we first brought him home, Jack stayed mostly in my room. After about a day he had no issues running around and climbing on everything. At times he gets lost in the house, he'll stop. But we just call him and talk to him and it isn't long before he finds his way back to us.
A few weeks after getting Jack, we got a new farm cat named Bear. Jack and Bear have become best friends. It doesn't matter that he can't see. He always knows when Bear is around. He'll run across the yard straight to Bear and wrap his front legs around his neck in a big hug. They run after each other around and wrestle. They'll lie down in the grass together when tired.
Jack is truly an inspiration. I've owned lots of kittens in my life, but Jack is the happiest and most playful. He doesn't feel sorry for himself. He doesn't need pity. I think Jean, owner of Gumbo, another eyeless cat, said it best when she told me that cats don't have disabilities, they have adaptability.
24.Why did Jack come to our home
A.I liked an eyeless cat. B.I didn't mind whether he was blind.
C.No other young cats kept him company. D.My friend ordered me to take him home.
25.What does the underlined word “issues” in the 3rd paragraph mean
A.Difficulty. B.Fun. C.Luck. D.Business.
26.Which of the following statements is TRUE
A.Jack likes to play with a new eyeless cat.
B.Jack is good at talking and playing with people.
C.Jack quickly adapts to the new environment.
D.Jack and Bear lie down on the sofa together when tired.
27.What can we learn from the passage
A.A cat has nine lives. B.All is well that ends well.
C.God helps those who help themselves. D.A good beginning makes a good ending.

Despite the fact that parrots are well known for their long lives and complex cognition (认知), it remains unknown whether the two traits (特征) have influenced each other.
“The problem has been sourcing good quality data,” said Simeon Smeele, a doctoral student at the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior (MPI-AB) and lead author of a study published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B that tried to solve this question.
Scientists from the MPI-AB and the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (MPI-EvA) teamed up with Species360 to compile data from over 130,000 individual parrots sourced from over 1,000 zoos to find the average life span of 217 parrot species.
The analysis revealed an astonishing diversity in life expectancy, ranging from an average of two years for the fig parrot up to an average of 30 years for the scarlet macaw.
Next, the team tried to determine whether or not parrots’ renowned cognitive abilities had any influence on their longevity. Their results support the theory that increased brain size has enabled longer lifespans. Because brain size relative to body size can be an indicator of intelligence, the findings suggested that the parrots with larger brains were able to survive for longer in the wild.
The scientists were surprised that factors such as diet, or the greater developmental time required to develop larger brains, did not lead to longer average lifespans. “We would have expected the developmental path to play a more important role because in primates it is this developmental cost that explains the link between brain size and longevity,” said Smeele.
In the future, the team plan to explore if sociality and cultural learning in parrots might have also contributed to long lifespans. Smeele said: “Large-brained birds might spend more time socially learning foraging (觅食) techniques that have been around for multiple generations. This increased learning period could potentially also explain the longer life spans, as it takes more time but also makes the foraging repertoire (全部技能) more adaptive.”
28.What did the study aim to find out about parrots
A.The diversity in their life expectancies.
B.The factors that influence their intelligence.
C.The traits that help them survive in the wild.
D.The link between their cognition and life spans.
29.How did the researchers carry out their study
A.By surveying over 1,000 zoos. B.By examining parrots’ brains.
C.By analyzing the collected data. D.By observing parrots’ behavior.
30.Which is a possible cause of parrots’ longevity
A.Their diet. B.Their body size.
C.Their larger brains. D.Their brains development time.
31.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.Supporting evidence for the research results.
B.Potential applications of the research findings.
C.A further explanation of the research methods.
D.Further research based on current findings.

What are the limits of the human body Is there a point at which it is physically impossible to do something
“One thing we’ve all learned in the last 30 years or so is that just about anything is humanly possible,” says Dr. Jack Wilmore, author of Physiology of Sport and Exercise. “As time goes by, I think you’ll see more records continue to fall in every sport. The talent pool is better than ever. With more and better athletes joining in and competing, records will fall and new ones will be set.”
Many believed it was physically impossible for a human to run a mile in under four minutes, but Roger Bannister proved that was wrong, with a three-minute, 59-second mile in 1954. Today, sub-four-minute miles are considered ordinary even in high school. And Bob Beamon amazed the whole world in the 1968 Olympics with his historic long jump of 8. 90 metres. In an event where a record is usually broken by me re inches, he broke the previous jump record by more than 21 inches, but even his record was broken in 1991.
One factor is now becoming more understood and paid more attention to: sports psychology (心理学). Getting inside the athlete’s head can be as effective as training and long workouts. According to Wilmore, the psychological factor of sports has become more and more valued. He thinks highly of most teams’ hiring (雇佣) professional sports psychologists to work for their players.
What’s more, everything in the sports field — training, nutrition (营养), injury treatment — is far better than it’s ever been. “Besides, children today are more likely to focus on one or two sports instead of competing in several as was common twenty-five years ago,” Wilmore says. “That means they start concentrating on a sport much earlier and put more effort into it, and thus they become much better at it.”
“There’s a lot we don’t know yet about the human body,” he adds. “And one of those things is can do.” the full range of human potential. It would be foolish to try and put limits on what the human body can do.”
32.What can we learn from Dr. Jack Wilmore’s words
A.Athletes will become the most popular people.
B.It will be tougher for athletes to break former records.
C.It is necessary for athletes to learn the limits of the body.
D.Athletes will continue to surprise us with their achievements.
33.Why are Roger Bannister and Bob Beamon mentioned in Paragraph 3
A.To introduce two great athletes.
B.To show some of the latest world records.
C.To prove the limits of the body can be pushed.
D.To explain what athletes can achieve under stress.
34.What is Wilmore’s attitude towards the practice of hiring professional sports psychologists
A.Appreciative. B.Unconcerned. C.Doubtful. D.Objective.
35.How are today’s children different from those 25 years ago according to Wilmore
A.They take part in far more sports.
B.They are less likely to get injured in sports.
C.They begin playing sports at a much earlier age.
D.They become more skilful at one particular sport.

Thomas watched the irrigation canal (灌溉渠) for a sign of water. It looked as dry as he felt inside. Thomas's thoughts were interrupted as his younger sister, Maggie, came skipping across the field.
"What are you giving Mama for her birthday " she asked.
Thomas felt his stomach turn. He had forgotten that Mama's birthday, the first since they left their hometown, was tomorrow. "It's a surprise, Maggie," he answered. It was the truth.
Even he would be surprised.
Thomas would wish to be back in the mountains of their hometown. Surely Mama would want the same. At least it rained there. Each time it did, Mama, Thomas, and Maggie would sit on the front porch and watch for a rainbow. Then each of them picked out a favorite color in the rainbow. Mama always gave the same answer. "Turquoise (蓝绿色,绿松石)," she would finally say with a dreamy smile, pointing at the sky. "Squeezed in tight, between the blue and green. Close your eyes and you can see it. If you could touch it, it would feel cool, like a breeze blowing across the stream."
Thomas was discouraged. The sun would be setting soon, and he still had nothing to give his mother. What he saw around were rocks and sand. He picked up a large, flat rock, scooped up the dirt and watched it fall to the ground. Suddenly, something caught his eye. A speck of color peeked through the dirt.
"Hey, what's this " he asked.
"Let's find out," Maggie yelled. Thomas and Maggie dug with their fingers and uncovered a small, round stone. In the center, there was a tiny hole.
"That's just a turquoise bead (珠子)," Thomas exclaimed. "My friend Jack's sister has a jar full of them."
"Let's see if there are more," Maggie got excited.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右:

【原文】The National Park we will visit is located in the desert just north of our city. Like any hike of this nature, you should be prepared for the adventure in the desert: First, hike with a partner for safety. I enjoy hiking with family members and close friends. Second, carry a cell phone with you. However, keep in mind that you might not get any signal in some places, so don't depend on it. Third, be sure to have the right clothing and shoes or boots for the hike. Light, breathable clothing is the best during the summer, along with the hat and strong hiking shoes. Forth, carry plenty of water. Having a few snacks can give you energy, too. Fifth, take a small first-aid box with you, particularly on longer hikes, in case you get injured. Sixth, pack a detailed map of the area you’re hiking, along with a compass or a GPS to locate your position. And finally, take nothing home with you except pictures and memories. You can protect these areas by leaving all rocks, flowers, and other objects for future visitors.
