Most 5-year-olds are just learning their ABCs but one little girl from the UK has actually written a book that was published in January2022. Bella-Jay Dark from Weymouth, is the world’s youngest female to be published and was awarded the title by Guinness World Records (吉尼斯世界纪录). Her book, The Lost Cat tells the story of Snowy, a cat who got lost after going outside alone at night. She hopes the book will teach children not to go outside at night alone.
While many adult writers find inspiration for their books from life experiences, Bella’s creative vision actually came from one of her drawings. “It started off as a picture. My daddy said I could make a book and a story came from the picture,” Bella said.
Her mom, Chelsie Syme, was surprised that the book turned out as well as it did. “I am just really proud of her; I did not think it was going to go this far so I’m just proud and want to see her get the acknowledgement she deserves.”
But how do you get a child’s homemade book published According to Syme, they took Bella’s book to a book fair and found a publisher willing to take a chance on it. Syme helped Bella with proofing copies (校对本) and making necessary changes. To earn the Guinness World Record title of The World’s Youngest Published Author, female, the book has to be published by a commercial publishing house and have at least 1000 copies printed and sold. Bella’s book met the criteria, so she was awarded the title.
Besides being an accomplished author, Bella is just a regular kid who enjoys reading, swimming, and playing on her tablet. In her free time, she is currently working on a sequel (续篇) to Snowy’s story. Who knows what pearls of wisdom will come next

Here are two interesting questions. Are you very happy with your life now Are people happier as they get older A study found that people generally become happier and experience less worry after age 50. In fact, it-found that by the age of 85, people are happier with their life than they were at 18.
The finding came from a Gallup survey of more than 340,000 adults between the age of 18 and 85 in the United States.
Arthur Stone, a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Stony Brook University in New York led the study. His team found that levels of stress were highest among adults between the ages of 22 and 25. Stress levels dropped sharply after people reached their fifties.
Happiness was highest among the youngest adults and those in their early seventies. But the people least likely to report feeling negative emotions were those in their seventies and eighties. The survey also found that men and women had similar emotional patterns as they grow older. However, women at all ages reported more sadness, stress and worry than men did.
So why would happiness increase with age One theory is that, as people get older, they become more thankful for what they have and have better control of their emotions. They also spend less time thinking about bad experiences.
The researchers also considered possible influences like having young children, being unemployed or being single. But they found that influences like these did not affect the levels of happiness and well-being related to age.
The original goal of the study was to confirm the popular belief that aging is connected with increased sleep problems. The survey did find an increase during middle age, especially in women. But except for that, people reported that they felt their sleep quality, improved as they got older.
28.Based on the study, which adult age group experiences the most stress
A.Adults in their 20s. B.Adults in their 50s.
C.Adults in their 70s. D.Adults in their 80s.
29.What conclusion can be drawn from the text

B.Young adults face less stress due to better health.
C.People in their 70s experience the greatest happiness.
D.Women of different ages tend to experience more negative emotions than men.
30.What could be a likely reason for older people feeling happier
A.The elderly don’t have the burden of daily hard work.
B.The elderly have ample financial resources.
C.The elderly feel more grateful for their lives.
D.The elderly often focus more on negative events for longer periods.
31.What is TRUE according to the findings of the study
A.Aging leads to increased sleep issues.
B.The older one gets, the poorer the sleep quality.
C.Sleep quality declines in middle age but improves in later years.
D.There’s a link between sleep and happiness.

Anew wave of startups are using deep learning to build synthetic (合成的) voice actors for digital assistants, video-game characters, and corporate videos. Each one is based on a real voice actor, whose likeness has been preserved using panies can now license these voices to say whatever they need. They simply feed some text into the voice engine, and out will generate an audio clip of a natural-sounding performance.
Not too long ago, such deepfake voices had something of a bad reputation for their use in internet trickery. But their improving quality has since aroused the interest of a growing number of companies. Recent breakthroughs in deep learning have made it possible to replicate (仿制) many of the subtleties (细微差别) of human speech. These voices pause and breathe in all the right places. They can change their style or emotion. AI voices are also cheap and easy to work with. Unlike a recording of a human voice actor, synthetic voices can update their script (剧本) in real time. Some Al firms can now handle the voices for adapting ads depending on who is listening, changing not just the accent of the voice but also the words being spoken.
But there are limitations to how far AI can go. It’s still difficult to maintain the realism of a voice over long stretches of time that might be required for an audio book. And there’s little ability to control an AI voice’s performance in the same way a director can guide a human performer. Expressive, creative and long-form projects are still best done by humans.
According to Rupal Patel, a professor at Northeastern University, the point of AI voices is ultimately not to replace existing audio work. The promise of AI voices is that they could open up entirely new possibilities.
32.What plays a key role in the improvement of synthetic voices
A.Licensing real voices. B.Breakthroughs in deep learning.
C.Feeding texts into the voice engine. D.Preserving the likeness of a real voice.
33.Which can best describe AI voices
A.Cheap and limitless. B.Creative and irreplaceable.
C.Portable and ready to update. D.Adaptable and easy to operate.
34.In which of the following do AI voices perform best
A.A TV talk show. B.Audio navigation.
C.Harry Potter audio books. D.A live football match broadcast.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.AI Voices Sound More Human Than Ever
B.AI Voices Will Soon Replace Human Voices
C.There Is Still a Long Way to Go for AI Voices
D.Advances in AI Voices Will Prevent Internet Trickery

It was a beautiful sunny morning in early summer, when the world seemed full of sunlight and new green leaves. I was in a good mood as my parents had just given me $300 for my daily expenses during the week that they would be away in Mexico to visit my mother’s sick grandfather. I was extremely overjoyed, thinking hard about the things I could do with the money. If I survived on bread and butter the whole week, I would have an unexpected windfall of $200 to buy the latest Kobe Bryant basketball shoes! What a terrific idea!
As usual, the physical education class was thrilling. I felt most at ease on the basketball court. After playing several fierce games, I could hardly catch my breath as I headed back towards the classroom, sweaty and exhausted. When I entered, I found my classmates gathered around Steven’s desk as he searched through his books and some other personal items anxiously. Steven had always been popular. Not only was he intelligent and well-mannered, but he also came from a well-off family. And he shared everything he had with us.
Right away, I learned Steven had lost the money he would donate to a children’s welfare institute that afternoon. Then I informed Miss Jones, the class teacher. She rushed over immediately and organized a search around the classroom. We stood by our desks and emptied the contents of our schoolbags onto the desk for inspection.
It was my turn. As Miss Jones took out the $300 from my wallet, the class fell into a shock. I didn’t know the amount lost was exactly$300 until then. I kept proving my innocence, but in vain. Miss Jones confiscated (没收) the $300 and decided I was getting kicked out of the school. I stayed home alone the whole week, living only on bread. I felt wronged, angry, and loss of self-esteem.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, my parents returned home and talked with me. Miss Jones had just accepted my parents’ advice when Steven came.

【35题详解】主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第二段中“Recent breakthroughs in deep learning have made it possible to replicate (仿制) many of the subtleties (细微差别) of human speech.(最近在深度学习方面的突破使得复制人类语言的许多微妙之处成为可能。)”、第三段中“But there are limitations to how far AI can go.(但人工智能能走多远还是有限制的。)”和最后一段中“According to Rupal Patel, a professor at Northeastern University, the point of AI voices is ultimately not to replace existing audio work. The promise of AI voices is that they could open up entirely new possibilities.(东北大学教授鲁帕尔·帕特尔表示,人工智能语音的意义最终不是取代现有的音频工作。人工智能语音的前景是,它们可以开辟全新的可能性。)”可知,文章介绍了人工智能语音技术取得的进步,但同时指出其不足,表明人工智能语音还不能代替人类的音频工作。由此推知,“There Is Still a Long Way to Go for AI Voices(人工智能语音还有很长的路要走)”是最佳标题。故选C项。

Aiming to enrich students’ campus life and promote pottery, the Fifth Pottery Exhibition will be launched next Saturday in our school’s art hall.
The exhibition includes more than 150 exhibits, —ranging from well-decorated bowls to delicate vases, which will undoubtedly unfold a magnificent world of pottery. After watching the feast, every visitor can try to make pottery items in person.
It’s surely a golden chance for you to gain a glimpse of this unique charm of the palace of art. Never hesitate to participate in it!

67.第二节 短文续写(满分25分)
Finally, my parents returned home and talked with me. They patiently listened to my side of the story, their understanding and support helping to boost my hurt feelings and self-esteem. I told the whole story of what happened, including the expensive misunderstanding, and the relief of sharing my tough experience was clear in the room. It was during this emotional conversation that I heard about Steven’s admission, which would change the situation.
Miss Jones had just accepted my parents’ advice when Steven came. He genuinely looked sorry, with a hint of regret in his eyes. To everyone’s relief, he confessed that he had found the lost money in his backpack. The immense relief and joy I felt were hard to put into words, showing how misunderstandings and hasty judgments can lead to serious problems. Steven’s sincere apology and our collective understanding brought us closer as classmates, restoring the warmth of our friendship.

Text 1
W: Have you got any plans for today
M: Yeah. This morning I have to see the dentist, and I’m going to paint the bedroom after lunch.
W: Don’t forget that we are going to the cinema this evening.
Text 2
M: I’m slightly nervous about driving my car to the city in the snow. Maybe we should take the bus instead.
W: It will take too long. Let’s head to the subway station before the snow becomes heavier.
M: All right.
Text 3
W: All I have are work clothes. It’s getting hotter and hotter now, and I need new skirts and shorts!
M: I know. You only have formal summer clothes for weddings, events and your job. Let’s both get cooler clothing this weekend.
W: Perfect!
Text 4
M: I’ve decided I’m going to study art at university. I want to draw the pictures in children’s books.
W: You would be so good at that. I can’t decide what to do. My mom wants me to study law like she did, but I would rather study history.
Text 5
W: Dennis, can you turn off the light when you leave home, please The price of electricity has been crazy recently. We’re saving for our family trip.
M: Sorry, Mom. I just forgot. I’ll keep it in mind next time.
Text 6
W: What have you got for your lunch
M: Oh, nothing special. Just the same old egg sandwiches.
W: Why do you always have them
M: I suppose it’s just my habit. I’ve always got eggs in the fridge. Sandwiches are easy to make. But to be honest, I am quite bored of eating them every day!
W: Interesting. Shall we forget the sandwiches today and have lunch in a local restaurant
M: I suppose we could.
W: Come on, I’m hungry. We could try out that new place on the main street near our office. I fancy beef noodles.
M: Sure, whatever you say. You’re in charge of the office, and I like the idea of no sandwiches anyway! I’ll try chicken and rice today!
Text 7
M: I’ve lived in this town forever. I can’t believe I’m moving away tomorrow.
W: I know. Everyone on our soccer team thought you wouldn’t leave for another half year. What did your classmates and teachers at your school say about your move
M: They were surprised, too. I wish my mom could have waited until I graduated from high school to get a new job. That’s the only reason we have to move across the country.
W: You only have one year of high school left. Have you seen your new house
M: Not yet, but my parents are so proud of it. They keep saying that my sister and I will love it. But I feel so nervous now. I’ve never thought of the move, and I love this town.
W: I’m sorry, Nick. But look on the bright side, you’ll have a new experience. Plus, you can visit us every holiday.
M: True. I’ll miss you guys.

M: Hi, Alice. How was your trip to Bangladesh
W: Great! I enjoyed seeing my family there. I miss my grandmother’s cooking.
M: I bet they miss you too!
W: Probably! I’m going back soon to help with a local tree-planting project.
M: Really
W: Yes. I learned about it while I was there. I’m hoping to raise enough money through a charity marathon to help out.
M: Can you tell me more about the project
W: Well, where my family live, in Ghior, they have a real problem with lightning storms.
M: Really
W: Yes. In 2018, around 360 people were killed by lightning, more than those who were killed by either floods or earthquakes!
M: Wow. Why is that happening
W: It’s partly caused by the local weather conditions. Hot air from the Bay of Bengal meets cold air from the Himalayas, which creates many storms. But it’s becoming worse due to climate change.

M: Welcome to Fitness Direct. I am your personal trainer for today. How are you feeling
W: I’m OK, a little nervous though.
M: Take it easy. Working out should be fun, not stressful. Can I begin by asking your fitness goals
W: Well, I wish to lose around two kilos and basically build up the strength of my muscles.
M: OK, that sounds reasonable. May I ask your current weight
W: Yes, I am 50 kilos now.
M: How much exercise do you currently do per week on average
W: Around three hours. I go swimming on Tuesdays, I dance on Wednesdays, and on Sunday mornings I play badminton.
M: That’s excellent. May I ask you about your diet
W: Well, I try to be healthy, but I like pizza and cakes, so I don’t always eat well.
M: What is your job Are you tied down to a desk most of the day
W: Sadly yes, I’m an office girl.
M: Well, you have given me some great information, so I can come up with a weekly timetable for you.
W: Great. What shall we begin with first
M: Right now. I’d like you to warm up with a 10-minute jog. OK
W: Sure.

W: Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the Museum of Fine Arts. This museum houses some of the greatest works of art to be found in the entire world. There are priceless collections of paintings, coins and other items dating from 3000 BC to the present day. There are four separate parts—the Gallery of Ancient Treasures, the Gallery of Classic Art, the Gallery of Modern Art and the Gallery of Sculpture. You should start your tour in the Gallery of Sculpture. I particularly recommend that you visit the Gallery of Modern Art, because at the moment, there is a visiting collection of French modern art. The paintings on display there are nothing short of wonderful. I promise you won’t be disappointed. To get the most out of your museum tour, you can buy an audio guide from the gift shop. So, ladies and gentlemen, the time now is 11:00 a.m. I suggest we all meet in the hall four hours later. Do you have any questions No OK, enjoy your visit and I will see you late
