Every October, my neighborhood has a Halloween costume contest. And every October, my neighbor Ollie and I race to the announcement board in the park to find out the theme. One year, the theme was “Dress up as your favorite book character.” Another year, it was “Be something scary.” But this year, the theme was kind of, well, themeless.
“Be creative ” I said, reading the announcement board. “That’s not really a theme, is it ”
Ollie hopped off his skateboards to get a closer look. “You’re right,” he agreed. “I think my favorite theme ever was ‘Superheroes’. I loved my Super-Force Flying Eagles costume so much, I kept that thing hanging in my closet for years!”
“My favorite theme was ‘Farm Animals’.” I giggled. “Remember how you insisted on being a Stegosaurus(剑龙) ”
“When I was five, dinosaurs were my world.” Ollie laughed. “I would have loved to see a Stegosaurus out grazing with the cows.”
“Now that’s the creative spirit we need for this challenge!” I said. “Maybe, since we don’t know exactly what we want to be yet, we should start by choosing some cool costume-making materials.”
“I’ve got it!” Ollie said, scooping up a bunch of fallen leaves.
“Really ” I said. “You’re going to make an entire costume out of leaves ”
“Why not ” he said, scooping up some more.
“They’re totally free, and I can guarantee, no one will be a tree as great as me.”
“Don’t you mean, a tree as great as we ” I grinned.
“Um, first, that grammar doesn’t sound right,” said Ollie. “And second, no way! Think of your own creative ideas.”
“Aw, come on,” I said. “You should be flattered that I like your idea so much. Plus, I just thought of the perfect way to make branches.”
Finally, Ollie said OK.

下水作文
We ended up filling two jumbo bags with different kinds of leaves. So amazing was the nature that it offered us such marvelous gifts! In this splendid world, we’d got enough leaves for different parts of an entire costume. Back to Ollie’s home, in the smart boy’s workshop, we began to choose suitable leaves for the model of a tree. Three hours saw our creative work come into being. We tried the leaf costume, after which I tied the wires attached with leaves around suitable parts of his body to show vivid image of a walking tree. All over, we practiced the costume walk till to our satisfaction. (96 words)
Then the big moment came. The neighborhood park was decorated colorfully, filled with people dressed in costumes of any kinds: plants, animals, heroes in the fairy tales, and characters of Halloween. The costume contest came smoothly. Soon came our turn. We stepped onto the stage and attracted people’s attention immediately, for the creative design and its eco-friendly materials. The final exciting moment confirmed our efforts. This Halloween was not only a grand traditional festival but also a creative and collaborative one to us. It provided a new angel for us to create a shared version of friendship and life. (94 words)
续写题目
The very first speech I had given changed my life more than I could ever have imagined. I was a third-grader when I chose Susan B. Anthony to be the topic. When I got the assignment, I went to the library and began researching the Women's Fight for the Right to Vote. I never really thought about a time when women had no voting rights and that their opinions didn't count. I learned that Susan B. Anthony led the fight to give women a say in our society. She overcame a lot of obstacles in order to do that.
About a week after giving my school speech, my mom read a newspaper article about a statue honoring Susan B. Anthony. The problem was that few people ever got to see the statue. It was dedicated (落成) in 1921, but within twenty-four hours it was taken down to the basement and stored where it had remained for nearly eighty years.
When I read that article, I was getting angry! This statue belonged in a place of honor. I felt that it should be in the Rotunda, along with the statues of Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr. and George Washington.
The article asked for donations because it would take $74,000 to move the thirteen-ton statue out of the basement. I decided to write a letter with a self-addressed envelope asking my relatives and friends to send a Susan B. Anthony coin or a $1 bill to me to contribute to the Women's Voting Statue Campaign. Every day I ran to the mailbox after school. But a month later, my piggy bank was still far from full.
So every night, after my homework, I wrote more letters at the kitchen table. Pretty soon the whole family got involved in the project. My seven-year-old brother, David, prepared stamps and envelopes. My mother and grandmother found addresses for people I wanted to contact and my dad drove me around and gave me tons of encouragement when I spoke to big groups.
Para 1: I passed around a piggy bank for donations at the end of each speech.
Para 2: I was interviewed on TV.
Para 1: I passed around a piggy bank for donations at the end of each speech.
Every clinking coin chipped away at my fear and anxiety. With time, the initial support from loved ones blossomed into a full-fledged movement. Classmates organized bake sales and car washes, their enthusiasm echoing my own. The local newspaper, which had first ignited my passion with their article, ran a heartwarming piece featuring me and my mission. Even social media exploded with the catchy hashtag #GetSusanOutOfTheBasement, and before long, a local news agency reached out, eager to share my story.
Para 2: I was interviewed on TV.
The bright lights of the studio made my stomach churn, but the fire in my belly to honor Susan B. Anthony propelled me forward. As I spoke from my heart about Susan’s fight for women’s suffrage, donations poured in. By the end, I knew we had really done it. During the summer holiday, my parents and I visited the Central Park in New York where the statue was free to be admired by people from all ages. When I finally saw her statue bathed in glorious daylight, joyous tears welled up in my eyes. It was indeed a bright day. For her and for us.
