Then in groups, choose one to research. Before this task, the teacher has students learn the names of the heavenly bodies in the solar system. Step 3 A task As a group, have students work in groups to do research on the chosen heavenly body and brainstorm the challenges it will present. Try to think of solutions to the challenges. Use the ideas below to help students. Basic information (size, distance from the Sun/Earth, surface features, climate, water, atmosphere, etc.) Challenges (resources, food supply, radiation, communication with the ground, etc.) Solutions Step 4 Learn about Mars The teacher shows a picture about Tianwen-1. Tianwen-1, China‘s first interplanetary expedition, has spectacularly conquered a new major milestone, with its lander-rover combination successfully soft-landing at the planned site on Mars on May 15, 2021, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA). From the first video, students can learn that Mars is the nearest planet to the Earth. Mars is the second smallest planet in the solar system. Like Earth, Mars has volcanoes, valleys, polar ice caps, seasons, atmosphere and weather. Have students think about what if we move to Mars and enjoy the other video to learn more about Mars. From the second video, students can learn some challenges and solutions to live on Mars. Challenges: Solutions: Having known these, have students put together their information to make a profile on how to live beyond the Earth. Use the example below to help students. Then present their own profiles to the rest of the class. Step 5 Presentation and appreciation Have students read the profile on the book and find the challenges and solutions. Step 6 Assessment After students finishing their profile, have students check their profile according to the following questions: Is there two aspects including challenges and solutions Is there a solution relative to a challenge Is there any spelling mistake Step 7 Further study Introduce a movie The Martian to students who want to learn more about the life on Mars. During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the planet. Watch the film to find out what happened. Step 8 Emotional inspiration Share a famous sentence from President Xi to encourage students to explore the solar system. The universe is vast and exploration of it will never end, only through consistent innovation, can the Chinese nation work towards a brighter future. --President Xi Jinping Step 9 Homework Surf the Internet to find more interesting information about how to live beyond the Earth and share with their partner.备注:教学设计应至少含教学目标、教学内容、教学过程等三个部分,如有其它内容,可自行补充增加。 展开更多...... 收起↑ 资源预览
