【词汇用法】
1.realize v. 理解；领会；认识到 其后可接名词，也可接宾语从句。
Lily didn’t realize she got lost until she came to a strange building.
直到莉莉来到一座陌生的建筑前，她才发现自己迷路了。
I didn’t realize how late it was.我没有意识到天已经这么晚了。
He didn’t realize his mistake.他没有认识到他的错误。
realize还有“使梦想、计划、希望等成为现实”的意思。

2. make one’s way to…..“前往；费力地向…前进”
其中to 表方向，其后接地点名词或副词；
如果后面接的是home、there或 here等地点副词时，则不用介词to
e.g. 杰克前往警局拿回他的手机。

e.g. 他们奋力地向家的方向走去。
They made their way home.
As soon as he saw us, he made his way through the crowd to greet us.

与way搭配的常用词组
(1)in a way＝in one way在一定程度上；从某方面说。如：
In a way he was right.在某种程度上他是对的。
(2)on the way
1)表示“即将来(去)；就要来(去)”。如：
Spring is on the way.春天快到了。
2)表示“在路上；在行进中”。如：
He stopped for breakfast on the way.他中途停下吃早点。
(3)by the way
1)表示“在途中的路旁”。如：
They stopped for a picnic by the way.他们途中停在路边野餐。
2)表示“顺便说；顺便问”。如：
By the way, do you know where Mary lives 顺便问一下，你知道玛丽住在哪里吗？
(4)in the way＝in sb.'s way, 表示“挡路；碍事”。如：
①I'm afraid your car is in the way.恐怕你的汽车挡道了。
②You are in my way.你挡着我的路了。
3. take place / happen
happen v. 发生；碰巧（指偶然性发生）
The accident happened close to Martha's house.
事故发生在玛莎家附近。
happen to sb. 某事发生在某人身上
What happened to you 你发生什么事了？/ 你怎么了？
sb. happen to do sth. 某人碰巧做某事
I happened to pass by the Grand Theater.
我碰巧经过大戏院。
(1) take place和happen都表示“发生”，都是不及物动词，无被动语态。两者都是短暂性动词，不能与“一段时间”的状语连用。
(2) take place 表示按照预先计划、安排某事发生。
happen往往表示偶然性的、没有预料的事情“突然发生”。
The meeting will take place at 9: 00 in the morning.
An accident happened at the school gate this morning.
A serious bike accident happened to her, and she was badly hurt.
4. when和while的区别
(1)表示“当……的时候”，如后面连接的动词为进行时态，则用while多于用when。而when通常与瞬间性动词或延续性不强的动词连用。如：
①I was waiting for the bus when it began to rain heavily.
当天开始下大雨时，我正在等公交车。
②While you were cooking, I went out to buy a cake.
当你正在烧饭时，我出去买了一个蛋糕。
(2)如果while前后的动词都是进行时态，while可意为“与此同时”。如：
I was doing my homework while my father was reading a newspaper.
当我爸爸在看报时，我在做作业。
(3)当while前后的句子描述的情况相对或相反， while可意为“而”，while更强调并列的对比而非转折。如：
I like sports while my sister likes reading.
我喜欢运动而我妹妹喜欢阅读。
【重点句型】
Kate realized her bag was still at home.凯特意识到她的包还在家里。
still adv. 还；还是；仍然；依旧; （虽然…）还是；但；不过；更（修饰比较级）。
拓展：still adj. 不动的，静止的；没有活力的，死气沉沉的。

I drunk a cup of water, but I’m still thirsty.
她非常疲惫。但她还是准时完成了任务。

3. When the school basketball competition started, Kate was still making her way to school.当校篮球赛开始时，凯特还在去学校的路上。
make one’s way 意为“前往；费力地前进”，强调克服重重困难，想方设法到达目的地。
make one’s way 常与介词 to/towards 连用，表示方向，其后接表示地点的名词。
make one’s way to 后面如果接地点副词 home、here 或 there时，应省略介词 to。
尽管雨下得很大，他还是向家的方向前进。
Although it was raining heavily, he made his way home.
make one’s way to 在某人去……的路上 （当后接地点副词时， 应省略介词to）
I soon made my way to the bookshop. 我很快向那个书店出发。
I’ll make my way home now.

4.Think of a time when you were late for or couldn’t go to an event .
想出一个你迟到或没能参加一项活动的时间。
句中think of 意为“想出，想起”，此外，它还相当于think about，有“考虑”和“认为”的意思。如：
①请考虑一下什么时候去。Please think of/about when to go .
②你认为那本书怎么样？What do you think of/about that book
5.Kate waited for someone to walk by.凯特等着有人经过。
to walk by是动词不定式短语，在句中作宾语someone的定语。如：
①我有很多作业要做。I have a lot of homework to do .
②那时候人们很少有食物吃。There was little food to eat at that time .
此外，不定式短语在句中还可以作主语、表语、宾语、状语等成分。
