三.阅读理解(40分)
A
Poems from the Tang and Song dynasties, operas from the Yuan dynasty, and novels from the Ming and Qing dynasties are very famous in China’s history. Today, I’d like to recommend Song of Autumn, one of the poems by Liu Yuxi (772-842), a famous poet and writer in the mid Tang dynasty.
Just as shown in the first line of the poem, most ancient poets liked to describe autumn as a sad time, but in this poem the season appears differently. In Liu’s eyes, autumn, full of life and hope, is even better than spring mornings. He describes the bright scene of a crane riding the clouds and flying into the blue sky.
With his poems paying special attention to expressing personal feelings, as well as the daily life of common people, Liu wrote poems with beautiful music-like words. You may feel it in this poem. Though being translated thoughtfully by experienced Xu Yuanchong, the poem still reads not so beautifully as that in Chinese. I personally think that English is sometimes not so powerful as Chinese.
Here is another example: in Liu’s essay An Eulogium on a Humble Cell (《陋室铭》),with less than 100 words, he shows a lively picture of his humble cell. However, it also shows how he was pleased with the poor and simple life. People may find it strange that one can feel happy living in such a humble cell. Learning from his famous sentence, “be fragrant because of my virtues” (斯是陋室,惟吾德馨), I think to be a respectable man is more important than to live in big houses, to wear beautiful clothes, to enjoy delicious food, and even to gain knowledge.
46. Which dynasty was the poem Song of Autumn written in
A. Song. B. Yuan. C. Ming. D. Tang.
47. How was autumn in Liu’s eyes at that time
A. He thought it was a sad time. B. He thought that autumn was rather cloudy.
C. He thought spring was better. D. He thought autumn was a hopeful season.
48. Influenced by Liu Yuxi, which of the following does the writer think is the most important
A. To be a respectable man. B. To live in a big house.
C. To wear beautiful clothes. D. To gain more knowledge.

Tonight our family was going out to play under the full moon.
We first started going on full moon walks for ourselves, because my husband Todd and I loved them and we needed these little doses of moonlight to stay happy and to function (起作用) in society. But after we became parents,we did this for our children. We wanted Sierra and Bryce to see that there is much magic in the natural world and that most of it is accessible (可达到的) to anyone. We also wanted to show them that it was not necessary to travel far from home to have an adventure, learn, and experience something new. Nearly every month, our family went into the night to “play” by the full moon.
Once we arrived at our location that evening, Sierra and I stood holding hands, waiting to cheer the full moon in its rising. A thin sliver of the apricot (杏黄色) moon poked (探出) above the shape of the Blue Mountain Ridge. Everyone stood up and watched its rising. More of the moon came out until it turned into a brilliant orange sphere. Todd explained to Sierra and Bryce that the moon makes no light of its own, but simply acts like a mirror, reflecting (反射) the sunlight back to us long after the sun has sunk below the horizon (地平线).
“Does the moon’s face change ” Bryce asked. I told him that the moon rotates with the earth, but it does not spin on its axis (轴) like the earth does. The same side of the moon is always facing the earth. We never see the other side, the far side of the moon. Sierra said that the moon looked larger and closer when it was rising. I explained that it is an optical illusion (视错觉) because it is so close to the horizon that the moon tricks our eyes into comparing it with nearby objects to create the impression of increased size.
Much of the knowledge that Todd and I shared with the kids had been learned from our past life experiences. If we did not have the knowledge to explain and educate, we looked it up,either beforehand (提前) to improve the experience or afterwards together, after we wondered and came up with a list of questions.
Opportunities (机会) to explore magical experiences and learning are right in your neighbourhood. Sometimes all it takes is going outdoors and looking up at the heavens.
49. How often does the writer go to play under the full moon with his family
A. Once a year. B. Once a month.
C. Once a week. D. Every day.
50. What does the underlined word “rotates” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean

Huaguxi is a form of Chinese opera. It started in Hunan Province. Some other provinces, such as Hubei, Anhui, Henan, Shaanxi, also have Huaguxi.
Originating (起源) from songs, Huaguxi dates back to as early as the Qing Dynasty. At that time, the Huaguxi players were mostly farmers. They dressed up in colorful clothes with their faces painted, singing and dancing along the street. It was popular in the countryside, leading to the development of Huaguxi as a theatrical form.
The interesting story with songs and dance began during the early 19th century. At that time, there were only two roles: chou (a man clown) and dan (a young girl), both played by a man. In the 1860s, more roles, including dan, chou and sheng (a handsome young man) were playing and the performance had developed a lot. Women players were allowed in the early 20th century.
The early Huaguxi didn’t last long, and the performances were mostly related to the life of the farmers. In the late 19th and 20th centuries, some Huaguxi performance groups began to move to Changsha, the capital of Hunan. At that time, Huaguxi lasted for about two hours. Stories also went beyond activities of daily life.
Huaguxi has developed quickly since 1949. The most typical Hunan Huaguxi has been provided with about 300 kinds of melodies (曲调). Moreover, a large number of traditional works have been adapted. At the same time, plenty of modern dramas have been created. Huaguxi has been experiencing improvement with the help of the artists who love Chinese culture.
