Dragon Boat Festival can date back to 2,000 years ago and the most famous legend is abou commemorating Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet notable during Warring States Period. During his life he strongly advocated recommending talents from all social levels, enching the country and building up the military forces. However, his ideas were strongly rejected by officials as it would harm their interests. Then Qu Yuan was forced to resign and was banished to the remote area of the country. In 278 B.C, the capital of Chu State was captured by the Qin Army. Qu Yuan was so grieved that he committed suicide jumping into the Miluo River. After hearing the news on the fifth of the fifth lunar month, locals were very sad about the death of their respectable poet and state official.
